I used a friend's Sizzix for some die cut letters and now I need one! It is more than I want to spend right now. I saw that there is a smaller version, the Sizzlit, available. I am wondering, what's the difference b/n the Sizzlit and the Sizzix other than the size being smaller? If I only wanted it for doing smaller alphabets, do you think it may a good investment for me?

I'd love any feedback from anyone that has used one.

The sizzlet is for the smaller dies...like the alphabet one you used. the Sizzix is for the smaller dies and the large ones. You may want to check out the Big Shot it is made by Ellison but it rolls. You can put the smaller dies and the big ones in it too. Costco is selling it for 50 some dollars which for the kit at an Expo I went to was selling for 109.00

Have fun whatever you decide.

Thank you, Holycow!

Last night, I was looking at a Quickutz, too.... I'll go check out the Big Shot!

I had never even seen a QK before I went to the scrapbook Expo in Ontario Ca. I was so glad I got to actually use it before I purchased it. The handle is easy to squeeze and they do have such CUTE! die cuts, but you can only cut one at a time. Same with the Sizzix or the Sizlet. They were demonstrating the Big Shot and you can use the QK in it too! You just need an adapter for it. So I bought some dies. The thing about the Big Shot is I can lay down 5 or 6 letters and cut them at one time. It really is a time saver instead of having to do the letters one at a time.

Sorry for the novel! lol

Check out CreativeXpress! They've recently reduced all their Sizzix prices - even the machine & accessories - permanently!! :teeth:

I haven't used the Big Shot but am perfectly happy with the older lever version that I have. It's quite heavy & not something you'd want to take to crops - but so much more versatile than the Sidekick. I just got the converter so that I can use the large dies as well as the Sizzlits. As far as I know, the only thing the Sidekick does that the bigger machine doesn't do is the borders...but I can't imagine using those anyway. :confused3

Now I haven't messed with this, but you can also get "adapters" to use other small, thin dies like the QuicKutz, etc.

I have the Big Shot and use it almost daily. (did I really admit to that?) I LOVE IT! I not only use it for scrapbooking but also for making signs for things I volunteer for at my kids school and for garage sales, bake sales, etc.

And, I've been making Christmas present tags with it.

And I made designs to put on the front of Christmas cards. And my kids use it to make valentine's.

OMG, I really do need to get a life, don't I? :rotfl2:

Did I say that I DO use it for scrapbooking, which is why I bought it in the first place....

OMG! At Creativexpress.com the Sizzix is only $39.60! I don't go to crops all that often where I would be schleping the thing around with me, so weight isn't a big deal to me.

Does anyone have a feeling as to which is more economical when it comes to buying the dies? Specificially alphabets? Or, are they all pretty much the same?

I could really use a nice diecut machine when I get back from my trip. We leave in 17 days! I picture theme parks written out on the tops of my pages etc.

Thank you all for being so helpful. I appreciate every comment.

Which is more economical will probably depend on which has more of the dies you think you'll want. I'm not all that thrilled with the Sizzlits that are available - just not very many that I'd use. That's another reason I elected to go with the Sizzix instead of the Sidekick.

There are a couple alphas that are only $42 at that site - Classic & Nouveau I think. The others are like $56 I think. It's hard to see the alphas there though. I usually go to the Sizzix site and one the description page you can choose the link to see the full alphabet. They also tell you the sizes. The ones with the shadows are the smallest - because each little square die has 4 letters (upper, lower & a shadow for each). There are some that are bigger because they have no shadows or only come in lower case.

I echo this suggestion. They also run sales quite often. They recently had one that depending on how much you spent you got anyware from 15-25% off I think. My aunt and I did one big order and she got her own Sizzix Machine for $29.70 and the bounce alphabet for $44.55 which is roughly $100 off. I also got several green (small) dies for less than $3 and a few red (large) dies for less than $5. I was AMAZED! Sign up for their mailing list and they will let you know about sales.

Today's Tuesday Teaser (Nov 14th) on the Sizzix site includes the Doodledots alphabars for $25!! For that price I can afford to get both the upper & lower! Maybe even the numbers for $16.25 :lmao:
