sizlets question

I just bought the set of 4 thank you sizlets, but they don't cut well at all. I want to return them, but I thought that I would ask if anyone here has any suggestions first. I am using them with the sizzix machine and system converter. My alphabet sizlets work fine, but for some reason these don't....

The only thing I can think of is to try a shim - a piece of paper on top of the die to add a smidge of thickness.
