Our friends that bought at Boardwalk (the family of 5) bought 150 points. That's all they could afford. He pastors a small country church (a labor of love) and works a full-time job too. Him and his wife said their DVC membership is the best thing they've ever bought. A wonderful escape for their family from dealing with funerals, sickness, etc. (taking care of a church). They stay in studios mostly (the Boardwalk plus studios), but when they bring family they get a two bedroom at OKW and stay Sunday through Thursdays to conserve points.
When we stay in a studio, we bring soup, crackers, and always eat breakfast in the room. The microwave, toaster, and coffee pot come in handy. Disney stocks paper bowls, plastic silverware, and paper plates in the cabinets above the sink.
Good luck. Maybe in the next year or two you'll be getting a "welcome home."
