Size of OKW compared with some other resorts

Hi all!

Sorry for so many OKW questions! Just curious how OKW compares, size-wise, to somewhere like CSR or CBR, which many consider very large spread out resorts? looking at a map - it doesn't look like it would be much bigger, but know those maps often aren't scaled the same. I've just heard so many people say OKW is HUGE. I personally didn't find either CSR or CBR to be HUGE. Just wondering if someone can give a good comparison here.

Thanks!

I've stayed at all three and while OKW is the only resort I have not actually walked the entire grounds, off the top of my head I'd call it big. Like you I don't find CSR or CBR all that big, I get up every morning and walk around the entire resort in both cases. I don't have a problem getting off the bus at any of the stops and walking either to the front or to another village at CSR or CBR but would definitely want to stay on the bus to my stop if I were staying at the back end of OKW.

Very helpful info! Especially where you are of the same school of thought as me in feeling CSR & CBR aren't really what we consider HUGE. I am hoping not to end up at the very back end of the resort, but of course, who knows where we'll end up. Good to know that if we do, we'll definitely want to ride the bus all the way to our stop. Tell me, did you utilize the buses when traveling within the resort, or were you close enough that you could easily walk to the Hospitality house for things like going to Olivia's?

We requested Building 28, since that is where we were the last time we stayed. It was a very short walk to the first bus stop, and right across the street from the bus stop was the walkway to the Hospitality House - near the boat docks, pool, and Olivia's/Gurgling suitcase. Coming back from Disney Springs at night, it was beautiful to stroll back to our unit from the boat dock. We had a lovely view from our balcony of the golf course and lush landscaping. We love OKW, for the Florida feel and for the relaxed pace around the resort.

Like the previous poster I requested a room on the road across from Hospitality House and got it. The first stop was literally right beside my building. I would sit on my balcony in the morning and drink my coffee, when I saw the bus that was going where I wanted to go, I gather up all my stuff and walk across the the bridge to Hospitality House, which is the last stop and catch the bus there. When coming back, I got off at my stop. I rode the entire route once just to see the rest of the resort. I didn't eat a Olivia's but did walk over to the horrible QS they have in the morning's to grab some breakfast to go and take it back to my room. I had a car and could have easily driven it everywhere but I don't drive when I'm at WDW. I was in a studio and while it was a little dated, it was huge. I enjoyed it well enough but I probably won't stay there again, I prefer the Epcot deluxe resorts and it was just too late to get one at the time I booked.

OKW is huge and the thing that makes it feel even bigger is the way it is laid out. Resorts like POR and CSR are laid out in a basic circle. The park bus circles the perimeter of these moderate resorts and you can easily walk to the main building.

OKW is laid out more like the shape of a hand with the main building at the Palm and each section of buildings located down a finger. The park buses have to travel down each of the roads (fingers) then turn around, travel back up each road before going to the next section.

Thank you! Great description! I can totally visualize the layout now :)

This does indeed sound like the perfect location to be! Fingers crossed that is where we end up! While I won't have a car, I am with you - I do NOT drive when on Disney trips. Some people think that is nuts and always drive as they think waiting is silly. Me, personally, I don't mind a little wait if I can "sit back, relax and let Disney do the driving" I am on vacation for goodness sake - one of the many things that I love about Disney trips is that I always feel taken care of, which allows me to leave all the stresses of daily life behind and live in the wonderful Disney bubble for 10 days! Ahhhh....can't wait! Thanks again!
