Looking at making sure we have enough diapers for our twins that should be arrive within the month.

I noticed there are "newborn" swaddlers by Pampbers for babies 3 to 6 pounds. There are also "size 1" swaddlers for babies 8 to 14 pounds.

I don't want the diapers to be too big, but at the same time, it's much more economical to buy the "size 1".

Will those be too big for twins, if they're only 5-6 pounds?

I would get a couple of packages of newborns. my dd were 7'2 and 6'8 and I had to use newborns for about a week or two.

The hospital uses size 1 for newborns. The diapers are a bit big, but not undoable. However, twins tend to be smaller than singletons (as you know lol), so I would stick with the newborn diapers. My dd was 6 lbs 4 oz when she was born and was in the newborn size for a month and a half.

Yes Size 1 will be too big for a 5-6 lb baby. My kids were 6-5, 6-3 and 7-5 and all 3 fit in newborn diapers until about 6 weeks.

Buy all you want though of the size 1 - they'll be in that size eventually :)

My 3 boys weighed well over 8 lbs when they were born, and the size 1 diapers were too big for them. They wore the newborn swaddler for at least 2 weeks.

You also have to remember you have to fold down the diapers away from the belly until the stump of umbilical cord falls off. With the size ones, the folds will be quite bulky.

My DD was average sized and used them for a few weeks. DS was smaller--he was 6lb15oz at birth and dropped to just over 6lbs for a few weeks. I think he stayed in the newborn size for over a month. Since twins usually are smaller, I would guess you would need the newborn size for awhile. I found that if I used a diaper that was too big, it leaked.

When I had twins, I had about 10 packs of newborn diapers on hand and about 10 packs of size 1. That still wasn't enough, lol, but they were in the newborn size for about 6 weeks. They were both about 5 pounds when they were born.

Your babies will likely be smaller than average because they are twins. My DD was 5 lbs 5 0z at birth and we used the newborns for quite awhile - at least a month or so. Those size 1's were way too big for her.

when i had my dd i had alot of size 1's but ended up buying some newborns too because the size 1 rubbed on her belly button and irratated it. I would buy some newborn size for that reason. because they have a cut out for the belly button. I also agree that twins may be smaller so they will be in newborn sizes longer.

I'm looking online and I see the Newborn Swaddlers, that say up to 10 pounds. Then, they have the newborn "premie" ones.

I'm so confused!!!

Don't buy premie ones. They are a waist of money in my opinion because you won't really use them long enough.

My ds11 was a preemie, and weighed 4 lbs. when we brought him home. He wore 'preemie' diapers for a bit until he put on a few pounds, then he was in regular newborn diapers.

Yes--I would just by enough to get you through the first couple of days or so--just to be sure they will not require a larger size. Some babies grow out of the newborns pretty quickly.

Those size 1's will swallow rather than swaddle your newborn twins though at the beginning.

Boom - you're overthinking this! Don't sweat it! When your wife and kids are in the hospital- you can always run out and get more of whatever size you think they need!!! :)

You can try your best to be as prepared and organized as possible - but I guarantee - they will throw you a curve ball at some point - you have to go with the flow :)

If you are that concerned, I would wait until they are born. You figure, they will be in the hospital for a few days and I think the hospital sends you home with some (at least they did for my niece). That way, you can be sure. Again, as others have suggested, you can buy plenty of the size 1 though.

Diapers may have changed since my girls were babies 5 years ago. One word of advice, don't open the diapers until you need them. I bought a specific brand before my daughter was born. I took them out of the package and set it up nicely for when my baby would come home. I had newborn diapers, but they were too big on the sides. They just didn't fit her well. She was 6lbs 9oz. I ended up trying a few different kinds of diapers before I found the ones that fit. My daughter was in newborn diapers for over a month. She just was a little peanut. All babies are different.

Use the newborn size, they should work fine plus they have the notch cut out for the cord. Also they make premie size. Used those for DD8 she was 6lbs. They fit just right.
