I'm hoping to get some opinions from other moms/dads out there. My son wants to have a bowling party for his sixth birthday party and have the theme be dogs. Do you think a dog theme for a six year old boy is to young?

No I don't think so, not at all.

Take it from a mom of a 9 yo DS, they grow up so fast. Let him have what he wants for his birthday theme, within reason of course. ;)

A side note: Just got done writing out the invitations for my DD's 5th birthday. Its a Gym Jam party. :upsidedow

I don't think so. It's his birthday and I would let him choose. I think the kids get so excited at parties, that it could be any theme and they wouldn't care. All they care about is having fun and getting cake! My dd is going to be five next month and she loves all animals and would be thrilled with a dog party.

my ds is turning 6 next month and we're having a "puppy party". He wants a real dog sooo bad, but I'M not ready to look after one yet. So we are on a major stuffed dog trip! (I like stuffed, no feeding, walking, ect) Anyway, he's very excited about his theme and we found some really cute plates, etc.and even a dog pinata! So I say go for the dog party! It's hard to believe they're turning 6 isn't it! Good luck!!

Not at all, my eldest DS is turning 6 in March and I know alot of his classmates are really into animals (and we don't live somewhere rural) some are cars, others are TV show obsessed (Ben 10, spiderman)

I wouldn't say it's too young a theme at all. DS wants his to be a pirate party (and as his little sister is 5 eight days before we may do a princess and pirate party of our own for them LOL)

I think my son had a dog party for his 6th birthday party!! It was fine, nobody questioned it. The good thing, he was in Kindergarten and he wanted to invite both boys and girls, and it was a theme that suited both genders equally.

A dog theme seems very 6yo appropriate, and actually quite a unique choice.

Does he have a specific breed he likes or just dogs in general? There's nothing babyish about Bulldogs, Mastiffs, German Shepherds, etc.!

Animals is aways a hit! My kids are 9, 9, 5 & 2. You could work dogs into any of their parties and they would be happy- really!

thank you to everyone who responded, i really appreciate the input. we are going to go with the dog theme. last night on the computer we found really cute tee shirts that have a puppy with a bowling ball and pins on it. so i think we will try to find that in an iron on and make all the kids shirts for the party.

Hey,

sounds like you already got the support you needed.

just wanted to add one little thought.

I taught vocal music for K-3rd.
Each month had a theme - For Feb I knew Valentines/love would be a tough sell
so I used a Puppy love theme.
A huge success!
(big relief)

here are some of the songs we sang:
Bingo
How much is that doggie in the window
I wanna be a dog
take me out to the ball game
where, oh where has my little dog gone?
do your ears hang low

I think disney has a dog music cd...

Happy Bday to your son

oh,
and michaels craft stores have a dog bone shaped cookie cutter
