I wondered if anyone has been there and what they thought of it. I haven't been there in a looooooooong time. So any info would be very helpful. Thanks :goodvibes

We have been there many times as we live a couple of hours from SFOG. If you like thrill rides, you will enjoy it. Just don't expect the Disney "Magic". My DD was 13 yo when we went last summer, and I made her pose with Bugs Bunny for a picture- he burped in her ear. Ugh!!! We absolutely love their coasters though. They are opening a new one this summer- Goliath, so we will go again but avoid Bugs.

It really doesn't have any rides but roller coasters. If you like rollercoasters, then you'll love it. But if you're looking for a break from the thrill rides, you'll be disappointed.

The food is bad too. :crazy2:

We used to go all the time and had passes when I was little. It has changed so much. I miss the Chevy Show and Buford Buzzard.

The Batman ride is great but short. I love the Scream Machine and Mind Bender...or Jokers Revenge as they've renamed it. I liked Z-Force, but they removed it after someone died on it. (I think they choked or something.) They got rid of the Great Gasp, which I loved....:( The last time I went was when Chris came down for a visit when we were dating and that was few years ago.

Lots of roller coasters. Small kiddie area. Bad food. Kind of dirty. Definitely not Disney. :wizard:

We go once a year because we live in Atlanta, and I get tired of DSs begging all summer to go. I usually give in by the end of the summer. Stop by a Publix grocery store- they usually have discount coupons for Six Flags.

I'd like to go back to the theme park in south Georgia (Valdosta?)- what's it called? Wild Adventures??? We went a few years ago on our way to Florida. It seemed like a park that was growing. I'd like to go back to see how it has turned out.

Wild Adventures is kinda cool. I mean, it's got a dinky carnival atmosphere about it, but it has a TON of rides, and not just roller coasters. I also like the premise behind having animals there (like Bush Gardens), but they don't always seem to be well cared for. :(

Wow I didn't expect so any replies so quick. Thanks!!! I am wondering if I would be disappointed in Six Flags. I love disney and universal so much. We have been to Busch Gardens in VA and liked it a lot. But it was clean and had a theme. So.......Dh and I are planning a long weekend in the atlanta area to check out the new aquarium and were looking for a few other things to do. Seems like a lot of people live around there any other suggestions. :goodvibes

Well, depending on when you're planning your trip, Six Flags might not be open anyway (it's only open late spring through early fall).

I would recommend Stone Mountain over Six Flags. You can easily fill a whole day there.

We will be there in April. I was wondering about the zoo?

The zoo really isn't spectacular-- I don't think it's really much better than the Knoxville Zoo, if you've been there. But it's not bad, either, and the pandas are really neat.

It's definitely good for wasting a few hours (though kind of expensive for what you get!)

Our last trip to SFOG was just that...our last!
Growing up there was never a summer that went by that we didn't go at least a couple of times, but it has changed so much.
Filthy bathrooms, rude ride attendents, and rowdy teens with no supervision.
No thanks!
And it doesn't help that we don't really do the huge roller coasters, because as all of the PP's pointed out, that's pretty much all there is! :crazy2:

Now it's a lot more low key, but I agree with Stone Mountain. We loved Crossroads. There's not a whole lot to do there as far a excitment goes, but it was a very nice relaxing afternoon. And good food too! They also have a pretty nice laser/fireworks show at night.

Oh, the laser show at Stone Mountain is totally cheesy, but it's something that every Southerner should do at least once.

When I took DH (we were dating at the time) to Stone Mountain for the first time, we bought the all-inclusive ticket (around $20), which let us do everything in the park. It included the incline to the top of the mountain, the 4-D movie, the train and boat rides, entrance into the plantation village or whatever it's called, and mini-golf. It kept us occupied from about 10am until time for the laser show at dusk.

I bought season passes for DD and I in 2004. We went opening weekend and season passes were only about $20 more than a one day pass so I figured it was worth it. Even with season passes, we never went back. The park was dirty and there was very little for DD to do (she was 4 at the time). WDW puts Six Flags to shame. I agree with the other posters about Stone Mountain. If you go to the zoo, the Cyclorama next to it is interesting as well.

I agree that I would find something OTHER than SFOG to do if you are just looking at a long weekend in Atlanta (unless you are a true rollercoaster junkie). Stone Mountain is an option, there are also several decent museums in the Atlanta area (I'd have to do a search to remember the names), or check out what might be playing at the Fox theater the weekend you're here - that is worth seeing just to see the theater building! The World of Coke is also here (but I honestly have never been there) right near Underground Atlanta. I'm sure others can give you lots of ideas for things to do in Atlanta. Have a nice relaxing weekend!

As Brier Rose said-- the last time we went will definitely be our last time there. We went because my husband's company had given the employees and their families tickets so at least we didn't have to pay. It was just nasty. The very first ride we got in line for that morning was Batman. There were trashcans all along the way as you were standing in line which is fine but they still had the trash in them from the day before. They were overflowing and smelled bad. Yuck!! That is my main memory from that trip.
I agree with the others. Go to Stone Mountain.

I love it how there are so many people on here who, like I, live in Atlanta, and how only one of them mentioned the new aquarium. It's the biggest and arguably the best in the world now and has been the talk of the town since its opening. I highly recommend it. However, if you are interested in going, you would need to get your tickets soon as you have to by them in advance to its high popularity.

I always enjoy Six Flags, but then again, I love roller coasters. The help there and the food are nothing compared to Disney, but for a RC buff like me, I can tolerate it.

The World of Coke is interesting and cool as well.

SFOG is probably the nicest of the Six Flags Parks. Some areas of the park do have some nice theming. They have one of the greatest collection of coasters in the world. It has a certain charm if you go at the right time of the year. Is really nice in the fall.

BUT, so many of the employees just don't seem to give a rip. Granted, most are young kids working there for the summer. But still, I blame the management.

Compare the employees at Chick-fil-a to any other fast food restaurant. If you set high standards, you get quality people.

There is Whitewater water park not too far from SFOG. This used to be an incredible waterpark until Six Flags bought it. The employees there used to be top notch, as was the way the park was operated. Now, you've got the bubble gum smackin' 14 year old who just doesn't seem to give a rip. Slides are not opened until the crowds reach a certain limit instead of all opening at the same time....anything to save a penny. But it's still a very fun waterpark.

If you like history, go to the Cyclorama http://roadsidegeorgia.com/site/cyclorama.html
Our kids really enjoyed this. It's located adjacent to the Zoo.

Also, another big thumbs up to Stone Mountain Park. We camped there for a week, and never ran out fun things to do. http://www.stonemountainpark.com/

World of Coke did not impress us that much...not worth the money (to us). One of my kids remarked "it's like we paid money to watch a coke commercial".

Put it this way... my company gave us FREE access to the park and I wouldn't go!!!

Last year a good friend of mine who lives in Florida just BEGGED me to take him to SF.... I knew he was a big Universal fan and warned him ahead of time that he'd be disappointed...

Not one hour after getting there he quoted my immortal synopsis of this place... it &^%$ :crazy2: !!!!!

Nope, wouldn't go back on a bet! Don't know about the Aquarium, still smarting from the Chattanooga one, but LOVED Stone Mountain. I still smile about the times we spent there.

Thanks. Love hearing from everyone that lives there. The aquarium is the main reason we are going. Some people that my DH works with went there and loved it. It looks pretty neat. I was wondering about the Coca-cola thing. I don't expect too much out of it so I might like it. I went to Stone Mtn. when I was a kid so I don't know if I would be disappointed because of all the changes it looks like they have made. Thank you again I love hearing what everyone has to say. :goodvibes
