Six Flags Over Georgia (Need Atlanta Dining advice)

We are heading there as part of our summer road trip and was wondering what you guys thought about it?

Any tips?

Is it a busy park? Do you suggest Flash pass?

Thanks!

For an amusement park its really very cool.:cool1:

Wow, just back from there on Saturday. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised this time. I went as a parent chaparone for a group of 49 middle school band and chorus kids during torrential rains. Yeah, not my idea of a fun day. My older DD and 4 others purchased the regular flash pass for $105, be prepared to leave an ID (luckily I was there to do that or they couldn't have gotten it). Anyway, the park was surprisingly clean and fairly smoke free (more so than WDW). Maybe it was because there were so many band groups there, but the prople didn't seem as nasty as I remembered. THe flash pass was a lifesaver. I didn't purchase one for my younger DD and her friend but heard all about it from them as we stood in line for Monster Mansion for around 45 minutes.

For a quick cheap meal, they have a Costco attached to the mall that if you are a member you can eat at. $150 for a hotdog and a drink:thumbsup2

Thanks for your report! How much time do you think the flash pass shaved off your waits?

I think its a great park if you like fun coasters. I wouldnt' waste my money on the Fast pass, but depends on you...

As someone already mentioned bring a swimsuit and a towel, so you can cool off at skull island.

At Hilton Head they have this hole in the wall seafood restaurant called the Sea shack ( ask anyone about it all of the locals go there ) It only has about 12 tables in it and looks like a dive, but it has the best, freshest seafood on the island and is very affordable.

The Sea Shack is, no doubt, the best seafood on HHI. BUT....get there early and prepare to wait. And wait....and wait...
Also, I think they are closed on Mondays. It's off of Pope Ave between the traffic roundabouts.

We are giving up HHI for Disney this year - I'll miss it. :guilty:

For them, te flash pass meant pretty much 10 minute or less wait times, some were prety much walk on. For the Flash pass rides, there's a seperate line, like at Universal. When and if we go back as a family, DH and I will probably get the girls one, since they proved that they can wait in a line without us. I can say thatwhile younger DD and her friend were waiting in a line that reminded me of Pooh at Disney, we saw folks with flash passes walk right past the line for monster mansion

Well, as it's been pointed out, it is NOT Disney-clean, nor Disney-nice, but the coasters are good. :thumbsup2 Crowds depend on the day of the week, with (obviously) higher crowds on weekends, including Friday. I'd go on a Tuesday if I had a choice, however, it's likely you'll have fun even if it is crowded.

It is VERY hot though. I haven't been in awhile, but I recall there was very little shade, and I was miserably hot. And I live here - lol. Don't forget the sunscreen!

Will you be doing other stuff in Atlanta? The Georgia Aquarium is awesome, and the World of Coke is fun, and I think you can still tour CNN studios, which is right next to both those things. Also, Fernbank Museum (a natural history museum) is very cool. We had allotted 2-3 hours for it, and we stayed for 5. My kids loved it. :thumbsup2

Have fun on your trip!

I definitly agree with the Georgia Aquarium & the Coke place it was always on the to do list with visitors.
Granted if your into rollar coaster rides this would be the place to go, that's one of the main reasons my step daughter likes it so much. And definitly bring sunscreen & keep yourselves hydrated.

We loved going to SFOG growing up, it used to be FANTASTIC! The last time I took the kids (3 years ago), we dumped the season passes and decided not to go back due to gang activities and frequent police calls. I did hear that they were trying to clean it back up and restore the park to what it used to be.

Please post a trip report and let us know how it goes, I would love to hear that SFOG is back to being the great family place it used to be.

You can always check out TripAdvisor.com too.

Good luck and I hope you have a great time and bring back a glowing trip report!

You know what?? I will do a trip report and take oodles of pictures :thumbsup2

I will even do a mini report on Great America since we are going there on Monday.

Bumping up looking for some places to eat.

Has anyone tried 6 feet Under?

on a side note, we have coupons to bring people for half price if anyone is interested in a DIS meet :lmao:

Hehe my only problem is that we would have to spend two days there. I try not to drive long distances, especially interstates now at night. lol

I was just glad my brother was driving when our entire family went to the King Tut exhibit and the World of Coke a couple of months back.;)

But, like the others said, a weekday is much preferable to a weekend. :) We helped chaperone the youth group at church about four years ago. Oy!
Saturday was packed!

Have fun on the trip OP!

Kim

Hehe, now how did I manage to miss your first post about the location? And how did I miss page two of this thread? You would think I was blonde or something! (LOL) Just ignore the above comments about traveling....lol

Kim (should not dis late at night...)

I wanted to mention I decided to do a garage sale last weekend and made over $600!!! So we are going to do regular flash passes on Friday, and Gold on Saturday!!! :lmao:

Oh yeah baby!!! Zoom zoom zoom :cheer2:
