Hi all, can anyone give me any advice on Six Flags MM? Basically we have a 3 year old but are big coaster nuts, usually we can visit the parks and use the child swap but I can't see that Six Flags does this? The other option is to buy one of the Fastlane passes and take turns in using it, has anyone used this pass and does it help? If so, how much extra does it cost? Of course we will be visiting mid week in eary May, does it still get really busy at this time?

Finally, what's the closest and best hotel to the park, is it a safe area? We would just need one night?

Cheers and thanks for any advice!

Simon

Hey There...

Not sure if Six Flags does the baby switch thing, but I would DEFINITELY get the FastLane pass...

I think it's about $20, but would be very, very, VERY well worth it. Last time we were there, we waited (and I'm almost ashamed to admit this) FOUR hours to ride X. It is an absolutely AMAZING ride...unlike anything else I've ever seen... but those with FastLane passes waited 5 minutes... :)

As for hotels, I think there are several within 5 minutes of the park. I'd go to Six Flags' www site or just call to find out. Mostly stuff like Super 8 and Motel 6...

Have fun!

It has been a year or so since I have been there, but I will try and help answer your questions. First off, taking a 3 year old is tough because there is not a whole lot they can do. There is no baby swap (at least that I know of) and the lines can get extremely long!!! You can buy the passes, but they aren't cheap. It also only works on certain rides, not all of them. Also, if it is crowded, they run out of them quickly so buy as soon as you get in the park. I stood in line for them once and they ran out so I have never actually used them. You mentioned that you are going mid-week in May, but I would double check that they are open mid-week. This park often closes down during the week in the off season and I am not sure when they open back up for 7 days per week. As far as hotels go, all of the closest hotels are at the bottom of the hill, along the freeway (you have to drive up a big hill to get to the park. I'm sure all of these are budget type hotels, nothing fancy. Unfortunately, I do not know their names, but I'm sure you could look on line. Sorry I'm not a big help, but my oldest son and I really love this park (we leave my wife and 2 smaller kids at home when we go every year or so since they can not ride much of anything). They have awesome coasters and I'm sure you will love it. Just be prepared to walk a lot of hills, and be ready for some serious heat. Have fun!!!

Checked and it does appear to be open during the week, think it starts in mid April or something? Anyway, we are coming from the UK and we don't have coasters like this over here so I can't miss the chance to visit!! Will get the fastlane pass and hope it's not a really busy time (planning to go on the 5th May so hoping everyone heads for Disney instead!).

Checked online and found the Hilton Garden Inn which advises it is the closest so that sounds good.

PS Queued for 4 hours…WOW, I have done nearly 2 hours when a ride called Air (stealth type coaster) opened in Alton Towers in the UK and I thought that was way too long!

We spent a day at MM last February. We were at the front gate when the park opened and went immediately to 'X'. We still waited for over an hour. The fastlane passes could not be used on 'X'. I would recommend getting to the gate 45 minutes before the park opens with tickets in hand. We rode Goliath many times with the passes. It still takes about 20 minutes to get on the ride. We also enjoyed Batman and Scream! using the passes. Overall though, we would not go again.

Apparently the FastLane passes are good for different rides each day... see the attached link for more info. Also, they are good for only 4 rides. Still, if it would ge me on X in 5 minutes instead of 4 hours, I would buy one. Not sure how they determine which rides will use FastLane on a particular day, but I know for sure that X was on my last two visits... (within the past year).

Thanks

You should go for sure, waits or not, because this place is unbelievable!!! X is tremendous!!! I will also tell you that May the 5th is a so-called Mexican Holiday known as Cinco de Mayo. It is basically a holiday in the U.S. that is used to promote a lot of beer drinking. It shouldn't effect your trip (meaning no one takes off work or anything) but I thought I would point that out just in case you hear about it being a holiday. I don't know if the rest of the country even knows about it, but any border states know about it for sure. Have a great time!!!

It is worth it if you only have one day and the park is hot and crowded. We bought two packages for the four of us. It really helps to cut the line down for a popular ride or two to 10 minutes or so. The crowds can be outrageous. X was not one of the rides for the day we went, but as another poster said we went straight from the front gate to the line at X and waited about an hour. That is nothing for that ride. It is so awesome that people believe it or not do wait 2, 3 even 4 hours (but I wouldn't). If you are coaster freaks, definately go to MM. It is an exhilarating park! Be sure to bring plenty of water and have a great trip:)

We were there on a Wed-Thur in Aug (25th-26th) so hopefully I can be of some help. I can highly reccommend the Holiday Inn Express, a new hotel that is now the closest. They have pool, hot tub, breakfast, and the rooms have fridges and microwaves (with mw items in the vending machines, along with ice cream).

We arrived in the lot about 30 minutes prior to opening, and were within 15 feet of the season pass gate 10 minutes later (got to use our Marine World passes), but it really didn't seem to matter if you just had a regular ticket. Would've been about 30' away in the other lines.

Day 1:

Went to X but told it wouldn't open for 45 minutes. Went to Superman, and were probably the first ride of the day. Went to Goliath which was a long walk (son is 52" so were starting with things we could both ride), and got there about 10:45. Were running 2 trains, but one was stuck on the hill as we got to load. We would've been on within 4 trains if that hadn't happened, but it took at least 20 minutes to switch on another train.

Went to Colassos (sp) and they were switching a train as well-and only running one. It was about 11:30 when we finally rode, but 15 minutes was waiting for the switch. I went to Scream, which was a 1-3 train wait for the front (running 2), and a walkon anywhere else. Rode front and back.

Went to Batman, which had only one train, but still got on within a couple of cycles for the back. We then went back to X, which had at least 45-60+ of waiting, so we bailed to see if it was on Fast Lane-wasn't. Decided to wait til next day. Got on Viper (2 trains) after about 8 cycles, and the line was shorter later in the day. Got on Revolution (2 trains) within 4-5 cycles for the back.

After lunch I went to Riddler's Revenge, it was about 3 by now, they were only running one train, and the wait for the back was an hour. After this Ninja and Goldrusher were walkons. We also rode the log ride, about a 10-15 minute wait.

It was around 5 by now. We would have taken a break earlier and come back if our MW parking pass had been good there-no in and out, or if the hotel was close enough for walking. So we called it a day.

Next morning we went straight to X, but it was over 30 minutes before it opened. We were on the 4th ride of the day, and still didn't dispatch until 10:50. Another ride would've been 45-60 minutes. Went to Deja Vu, and got on after one cycle. Got to Riddler's Revenge, and waited about 15 minutes for the front. Batman was about a 4 cycle wait. It was about one when we subjected ourselves to Psychlone, and we waited about 4-6 cycles.
After that we drove home.

I'd only been once before in 1991, and remember enjoying Psychlone, but it hasn't aged well, and the other woodie is a lumbering snore. Many hate Viper, too, probably because on sharp turns, you can really bash your head against the restraint (Hey, 6 Flags, they sell padding, you know), but I think it's a fun coaster otherwise.

Goliath has a great drop, but doesn't sustain the excitement like Desperado outside of Vegas. Still a rush to be that high and fast, though. Scream is nearly identical to Medusa at MW, which is better in the back, but Scream gets a tiny edge in the front.

Superman is OK, but the launch doesn't compare to Xcellerator(sp) at KBF. Even though Superman reaches higher speeds, it takes longer to do so. However, if you have to wait a long time, this queue has great air conditioning. Ninja and Goldrusher are fun rides through the trees. Revolution has that as well, but has a few too many lulls to be more than historically interesting. Deja Vu is a great out and back with vertical hills as it's distinctive gimmick. Hard to choose between it and Invertigo at Great America, whose gimmick is facing seats.

IMO, the 3 best are X, Batman, and Riddler's revenge. The stand up near us at Great America has never been more than an afterthought, but RR is wonderfully ecstatic. It swoops and curls through the wind with only one set of brakes. Batman starts with 2 loops seperated by an in line twist. It's very intense, full of lateral G's, and the height requirements seem to be on the honor system, as my son was able to get on it while I was riding Scream.

X takes you up a hill on your back, then into a small (10') dip before spinning you face down into a sheer, perpendicular to gravity drop. About a minute later it stopped. I'm not really sure what happened in between, although I'd like to find out someday.

It never seemed crowded, although I often felt old. Most there were 12-25 years old. I had worries when someone cut into the entry line just before they opened, but other than a group of guys with limited vocabularies behind me for RR that were on the phone inviting their friend to just cut through and find them, I only had one person "excuse me" their way through at the log ride shortly after we got in line for some people not far ahead. It's a big place, but spread out for the most part, with a lot of shade, especially around Revolution.

They have souvineer bottles you can refill with soda for $.99, or Icee's for 1.99. They cost $7.99, but you can get them with a meal (well, burger and fries) for only about $1.50 more.
My last tip is if you like peanut brittle, check out the candy shop in the back near Deja Vu.

Cheers.

We live 15 minutes from MM. The coasters are great if you're a coaster freak, our family loves the rides, hates the lines. Outside of Bugs Bunny World there is virutally nothing for a 3 year old to do there, as almost all the rides have height restrictions so be prepared for that. 3 year old will probally enjoy Granny Grand Prix and the petting zoo. Sorry, don't know about baby swap, my kids are older. As for weather and the like, a few words of caution from a local. The park is extremely hilly and even though portions of it are shaded, it can be very hot in May, up 100F. Of course, you could get lucky and come on a day when we get the famous June Gloom that helps to cool it off.

You didn't ask about food but, I would recomend that you leave the park for dinner.;) MM is NOT known for it's food. There are a lot of nice places to eat nearby. If nothing looks good just outside the park on The Old Road you can continue down to the right (it looks like it goes nowhere, be patient) or go under the freeway on Magic Mountain Parkway to the area around Mc Bean Parkway (maybe a mile or two) and you will find lots to choose from. The mall is there as well. Oh and if you've heard about So Cals "famous" In and Out burger joints and want check it out, the closest one to MM is near The Old Road and Lyons Ave, can't remember the street name but you can see the sign from the freeway, just ask for directions. Hope you enjoy our beautiful Santa Clarita Valley.
