Several attractions at Disneyland and one at neighboring Disney California Adventure are scheduled to close during September for holiday decorating and routine maintenance.
A surprise opening at Disneyland on Tuesday was the Matterhorn Bobsleds — the popular, iconic roller coast that is one of the few Disneyland landmarks that can be spotted from outside the park. The ride, which closed in early July for routine maintenance and was scheduled to remain shuttered until Friday, opened earlier than expected.
New additions to the ride were safety railings bordering certain areas and a handrail leading out of the ride. Disney spokeswoman Betsy Sanchez said the railings were installed during the maintenance period and will remain for the forseeable future.
“The railings are for the safety of the maintenance cast members who work on the attraction,” Sanchez said.
Pirates of the Caribbean is scheduled to close from Sept. 7 to Nov. 23 for routine maintenance. Additionally, the adjoining Blue Bayou restaurant – which sits along the banks of the indoor ride – will also be closed.
Tarzan’s Treehouse is scheduled to re-open on Friday. The attraction has been closed since Aug. 1 for routine maintenance. It is a walk-though re-creation of the tree house from the 1999 animated movie based on Edgar Rice Burrough’s novel “Tarzan of the Apes.”
The Haunted Mansion is closed for the installation of holiday decorations and re-opens on Sept. 16. The ride, which takes guests through a haunted house filled with “999 Happy Haunts,” closed on Aug. 28.
Space Mountain, which shut down periodically throughout July, is scheduled to close from Sept. 12 to Sept. 15 for the installation of holiday decorations. The roller-coaster takes guests through a futuristic trip through space at high speeds.
Disney California Adventure’s California Screamin’ is scheduled to close from Sept. 6 to Oct. 14 for routine maintenance. California Screamin’ is the only roller coaster at the Disneyland Resort that has a loop."
