Sitting in WOC queue?

Because our group is largely made up of children, I know we will be getting to the WOC queue quite early so we can try to get a good viewing location. I'm also planning on doing the picnic meals simply for the ease of getting the FP. The Disneyland website says picnic meals can be picked up until 7pm, if we pick up our meal around that time and just hang on to them until we line up for WOC, will we be permitted to sit down in the queue while we eat? I was thinking saving our picnic dinners for when we wait in line would be a good way to pass time, but again since we have a large number of children in our group, it'd be hard for them to try to eat while standing up. I realize I probably sound like I'm over-planning, but I'm trying to make traveling with 8 kids as smooth as possible, lol!

Thanks!

We all sat down until close to show start time in November 2012, but we were also not in a crowded section....if I recall correctly, we were far from the only ones sitting, though. (Long day at the parks! :) )

We were there in Feb and waited in the queue for probably 30 minutes before we were let in to the viewing area. Once there, we waited an hour for the show and we all sat down. I would eat then. We were about 10 back in the queue and it was standing shoulder to shoulder. We ate corn dogs while standing, but it wouldn't have been feasible to sit. Maybe if we got there first and set the tone of the line we could have sat. But, we had plenty of sitting time once we got into the viewing area.

I considered the picnic or dinner options, but was told those sitting areas aren't a close to the rail...we wanted to be up close and personal, so we opted to get into the queue and head straight to the water.

I know the dinner packages put you in a slightly elevated section a bit back from the rail, but I was under the impression that the picnic meals gave you the same type of fast pass that the machine gave- is this not the case?

Thank you for the info, glad to know the CM's won't make the kiddos stand while they eat their dinners :)

The picnics are the same type of fast pass as the machines.

If anything the picnic meals make it harder to get WOC FPs. So I would not let that be the reason to do that.

Yes, you can sit in the queue. Once you are to your spot to view WOC you can sit. Once the show starts you will need to stand.

It's also nice to bring a blanket or some hotel towels to sit on, that way others can't as easily hone in on and crowd your steaked out spot, and that cement can get cold sitting there for an hour.

Can you explain why that is, please?

I think what Hydroguy is meaning is that it is much simpler to just go to the WOC FP machines on your own and get a FP than to do all that it takes to reserve and then pick up your picnic meals.

It really is much easier to aquire WOC FP's on your own, and you don't get any better viewing area with the picnic package than with just getting FP's on your own.

While this is true, it's also courteous to your fellow guests to remember that you take up more room by sitting vs. standing and by doing so, you are preventing others from being able to stand in a perfectly acceptable (and available) spot.

Just another view,

Interesting perspective, a done that I hadn't really considered. The level of comfort of standing in close(r) proximity than sitting is daunting though. Do most people stand while waiting?

No, most sit while waiting, and then it is necessary for most everyone to stand for the show.

Yes to Cindy's explanation. :)

The picnic option only made it easier to get FP when WoC first opened. Now it is very easy & fast to get the WoC FP. So unless you really want to eat the options offered for the Picnic meals, I would skip the picnic and get dinner elsewhere.
