What can we do for free (or cheap) at Williamsburg? We are driving thru willaimsburg and would like to stop.

Anyone have the a copy of the old Fecility Williamsburg map?

If you are just stopping in Williamsburg on your way through you can walk through Colonial Williamsburg. This will give you a feel for the place. Buildings with flags require a ticket to enter. To truly experience CW you would need a ticket and 2 full days. A Bounce Ticket goes for about $100 and gets you unlimited admission to Colonial Wmsbg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country USA. It includes parking at BG and WCUSA. Children 5 and under can receive a free ticket. It's a fantastic value.

There's also a free ferry ride from Jamestown Island. Never done it but there's alot on Tripadviser about the experience.

Yorktown and Jamestown both have a National Park that is very cheap, but they are not as interactive as the visitors centers.

While they COULD be free, they might not end up that way: the giant Yankee Candle Company shop (Santa Claus is there... and it snows and there... DS loves that!) or the Prime Outlets right down the street. :-D Driving on the Colonial Parkway is beautiful too!

I don't have a map, but Felicity-sites you could find on the regular Williamsburg map:

Everard House= basis for Felicity's house
Prentis Store= Father's
Wythe House= basis for Elizabeth's
Governor's Palace, Bruton Parish Church, Jail/Gaol and Magazine are all their from the books.

FWIW, though, we liked the Jamestown and Yorkstown sites alot better than Williamsburg. They were cheaper (yes, you can stroll CW free, but have to pay to go in the buildings) and interaction was MUCH better. I've been told by many folks we had a worse CW experience because it was a slow time in April, but it's the exact same week we went to JT and YT. My two cents anyway!

Do you pay to go in the buildings individually? If so, about how much do each of them cost? Are there different demonstrations in each building? Thanks!

Free= you can walk around the town, but the only buildings you can go in are actual stores or restaurants(eg that are selling things) or buy a pass (clips to your shirt) that lets you into the houses/craftshops/etc as well. (IIRC, the ones that required the pass were marked with a colonial flag out front.) The pass also lets you into the street-show in the afternoon. (Recreates the events leading up to revolution. It was interesting, but because it moves from site to site, you're constantly having to move. Each stop on the way leads to trying to find a good spot {in the shade, place to sit, can you hear? then wait for everyone to get quiet and settle down...} It was a bit of a nuisance IMO.)

Yes, there are different tours/demonstrations/things to see in each of the various "paid" buildings.

The pass gets you into the Governors Palace, Capital Building, Courthouse plus shops like the wig maker (VERY interesting) shoe maker/cobbler etc.
