I see some people posting about picking sites or loops. When I called they told me I couldn't that I would be assigned when I got there. Help I have small children and I am so afraid we are going to be really far out there. We are camping for the first time there in july/aug.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You can request a site or loop but it is not guaranteed. It is better to tell them why you want a specific site so they can give you close to what you want if the specific site or loop is taken. Some examples would be close to bathhouse, bus stop, pool, settlement, meadows or outpost etc. I think the letter sent in before check-in is most effective.

And really, don't stress yourself out.
Everything is accessible one way or the other.
Relax. You will be just fine.

The best thing you can do is not to worry to much about location especially if you'll be spending alot of time at the parks etc. Ask them to note on your reservation if you need to be closer to the bus stop or comfort station if that's what you need. Once you've been here and done that you can figure out where you prefer to be and you can pay accordingly...l.e preferred loop, premium etc.
I am picky because I don't really go to the parks anymore and spend 90 % of my time at the fort with my two Boston's. And my preferences have had to change over the years based on my camping equipment. So, what I may have preferred a year ago is now different. Honestly the best place to go camping is at the fort because they offer so much and what you didn' t bring you can probably buy/rent here as well. Not gonna get that at a national park etc.
Enjoy and you can 'request' anything your heart desires, their is just no gtd you'll get it.

Definitaly no need to stress. There isn't a "really far out there" to worry about. As big as the Fort looks on the map, once you get here you'll find out that it is really well laid out and you are never more than a half a mile from anything no matter where you are.

We usually stay in Loop 100 because my kids are nuts about the beach and I like being close to the Tavern and boat docks. That puts us 1/2 mile from the pool which my 4 and 6 year olds will walk 3 times a day if we let them... I checked the mileage this morning on a whim and it is 1.1 miles from the front desk to my campsite in the 100 loop. That might give you an idea of the scale of the map...

I had entered a request to be near a comfort station on my last camping trip a year ago spring break. When I got to my site, it was on the opposite side of the loop. I drove around the loop and saw two empty sites that I preferred. I called the cast members personal phone number he gave me when I checked. After about 3 minutes, he told me to move to one of the sites I preferred. It worked out great.

2011 Spring Break – Fort Wilderness 10 Days – Fly/Drive, Camp
2010 Spring Break – Disneyland – 8 Days – Paradise Pier
2009 Summer – Atlanta / Florida / Disney 2 weeks / 4 weeks total Camping
2006 July – Fort Wilderness – 7 Days Camping
2006 June – Disneyland / Off Property
2004 Disneyworld – Fort Wilderness – 7 Days Camping
1995 Disneyworld - Port Orleans – 7 Days
1993 Disneyworld – Off Property – 6 Days
1975 Disneyworld – Fort Wilderness – 2 Days Camping

What type of site did reserve? What do you want to be close to? If you went with a partial you can request 1500. Right in the middle and close to the pool. Full hook ups are farther from the marina so you may want a preferred. This is what we like. 100 or 200 right up close to the marina.

You can't pick your loop or site, but you CAN request a specific loop and/or site.

Here is what I recommend. First, take a look at the FW map (you can find it at, among other places, allears.net under "Accommodations") and pick the loop which makes the most sense for you. We like being close to the pool, but proximity to the marina is very nice at the end of a long day at MK as well.

Next, call Disney Reservations and have them make a note of your loop preference on your reservation - maybe even given them a prioritized list of 2 or 3 different loops.

Finally, a few days before leaving confirm your loop preferences with Reservations and/or call FW to remind them of your preferences. You can even fax your preference to FW in lieu of calling them.

If you do these things you have a great shot at getting your preference, though no guarantees.

The other posters are correct as well. There is no place you can't easily get to by walking or via bus in FW. You can also rent a golf cart as well.

If the little ones are interested in the pool and/or campfire program I suggest a loop in close proximity to the Meadow Trading Post and Pool. We stayed in 900 last summer and it worked out great for this area.

Good luck!
