Okay, I'm pretty sure I should know this answer but this dang Disney reservation people have me all twisted in circles. I figure I would come to the experts.

I had a premium site booked for our 8 nights in November. The new code came out yesterday so I called. She applied the AK9 and it dropped the price by like $300. Yahoo. Okay, when something is too good to be true it usually is. :headache:

I pulled up the reservation this morning to confirm that all was right and of course it wasn't. She changed my premium site to a pop-up site. Not good for the 31' Class C. Called back this morning and got my premium back but no discount. Asked to speak to the manager because I was calling BS. I spent 90 minutes on the phone yesterday for them to screw up the reservation and another 30 minutes this morning to hear "too bad so sad they were all used up yesterday".

Anyway, the manager said she would give me a discount rate for a preferred but not a premium. Okay, DH can suffer and get the RV into the preferred site because it would save me approximately $200. He agreed. So I pull up the reservation on line and find out it says "Full Hook up with electric/water/swr/cable". I see a full hook up on the website but it doesn't include cable. I need cable for the week. DD will go crazy without her Disney shows. So I decided to call the campground to speak to them to see if its the same thing. She told me she would transfer me to reservations and wouldn't even take my question. :headache:

So I decided to turn to the experts. Is there a difference between the preferred and the full hook up as listed on my reservations? Anybody know? Thanks for any help!

All the full hook-up sites have cable. In all actuality, the full hook-up sites are bigger & nicer than the preferred sites. (IMHO). I always ask for 1700 loop.

You will be fairly close to the Meadow Recreation area to walk to, but far from the Marina, Trails End & Settlement. The internal bus system moves quickly enough for this not to be a problem.

I suggest you ask for 1600 or 1700 loops, as they are closer to the bus stops than 1800 & 1900.

And yes....the preferred sites are loops 100, 200, 300. Close walk to Settlement area.

Actually - I would have left it as the pop-up loop and let them deal with it when you checked in. The only thing that is lacking in the pop-up loops are sewer hook ups. They have water, 30 & 50 amp power & cable. Always print a copy of your original reservation as proof. They would have a hard time arguing with that at check in.

First, let me say I'm sorry that you have been subjected to so much confusion. The people who answer the telephones for Disney can really be clueless some times.

To answer your specific question, the only difference between the preferred and full hook up sites is location. The preferred sites are in loops 100-300, and are closer to the Settlement. The full hook up sites are in loops 1600-1900 and are closer to the Meadow. The Preferred and Full Hook up sites have identical utilities: Electric, Water, Cable and Sewer.

All sites in Fort Wilderness have cable.

All sites.

Premium, Preferred, Full and Partial.

All.

Based on how your reservation now reads, you have a Full Hook Up site, not a preferred site.

That means you will be in the 1600-1900 loops.

As Des1954 says, no worries. Those sites are plenty big.

Happy Camping.

Thanks. I have everything printed. ;) I once had somone say I had a "mono maniacal need to print everything". As I was in the process of saving his *** due to my overzealousness I wasn't sure whether or not to take that as an insult. :lmao:

Are the sites the same size as the preferred? I hate to have my husband trying to squeeze something in to a really tight space.

Thanks. As we have the cart then we are not worried about distance. DH loves to drive it around so it won't matter to him where we are as long as he can get his MH in the site easily enough and we've got cable.

And this is why I came to the experts. ;) Thank you both! :thumbsup2

Overall, the full hook up sites are more spacious than the preferred sites. You will have absolutely no problem with a 31' Class C.

Request the 1700 loop, as Des1954 suggested.

One interesting tidbit.... we just had to rearrange part of our ressie and have a preferred pet site booked. The confirmation came back noting "full hookup".

We're going to call back again to confirm, but I wonder if there is actually "preferred" category in the ressie system at all?

When we talk to CM on phone, and I have alot this week :rolleyes1 they constantly reconfirm that we have Preferred. But you're right, the confirmation from Disney shows full hookup. There probably isn't a "Preferred" category in the ressie system.

We have a similar problem. In February I booked my upcoming November stay as a full hook but then upgraded to a preferred. My online reservations STILL say we have a full hookup even though called twice to make sure I will be getting the preferred. When I ask the CMs what type site I have it seems their computer is correct, it says preferred (and the price paid is for a preferred) yet it doesn't show up online. We are hoping there isn't a problem when we show up in November. :confused3

This is so strange. I swear we've had preferred sites before. oh well. I've printed every variation of confirms. I'll be somewhere at the fort and that's all that matters.

I just checked our reservation. It says "preferred campsite (FD)". I just noticed that it says "Disney Dine Plan" above our park tickets too. What is up with that. I know we didn't buy the dining plan and the total adds up right for what we bought. Do you think they messed up and gave us free dining????

Hi, I want to say thank-you for all the informative information! Using all your good information I booked a Preferred site for May 2011 for 14 nights. When the AAA rates came out I called to change and get the discounted rate. Now I just read what you were saying about your ressies reflecting a Full hook-up site and not a Preferred when I realized my new confirmation also reads Full hook-up. I just called and sure enough she told me my ressies changed to a Full hook-up and not Preferred when I got the discounted rate! So she changed everything back to how I had it (including slightly higher rate) and now I just received my new confirmation reflecting the Preferred site. So I just wanted to let you know that it does indicate a Preferred site when you book one.

I hope this helps and thanks again for all your help in making my vacation the best it can be! :flower3:

Oh good heavens. This is so messed up. Well if we get there and DH really wants a preferred, I will show that the email that they sent me today. Their system is so messed up.
But based on what everyone is saying, the Full Hook up vs. the preferred really doesn't make any difference. We have our own cart so we're really not worried about being close to anything.

This is really strange though. :confused3

Kazlac4 - When in November are you going to be at the Fort? We'll be there from the 4th to 12th. We've have the double mickey head light at our site! :thumbsup2

We are going to be there the same time..from the 4th to the 13th:cool1:. I am in the process of making a Green Mickey head and have also purchased some Christmas decorations. Are you as excited as we are?? We are hoping to get the 100 or 200 loop and will certainly try to catch up to say hello while there!

Hi I am a little confused about the preferred sites also , I had a premium site for all 14 nights:confused3
Now that the discounts came out , I tried to get the annual pass discount and general public discount . I was told they only had the discount for the annual pass and only for preferred , not premium .
Long story short I took preferred for 7 nights and premium for 7.
Now even though I was told by the reservation agent that my 5th wheel will fit in preferred I am worried .
Does anyone know if a 39 foot 5th wheel with 4 slides will fit in the preferred sites . With all slides out it is 14 ft wide.
I tried calling Fort Wilderness but they said reservations would know the answers for size of campsites
PLEASE Help

For the Fort Wilderness novices, let's clear up some of the confusion about the type of sites available.

Partial Hook-Up Loops: 1500 & 2000
Amenities include: Water, Electric (110, 30amp, 50amp), Cable, Grill
A small concrete pad with a large coquina shell pad behind the concrete.
Tents and pop-up's only. Even though I've been told they are not allowed on these loops, I have seen full sized TT's and motor homes.

The following site levels allow any kind of camping equipment....

Full Hook-Up Loops: 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900
Amenities include: W/E/Sewer/Cable, Grill. A large concrete pad with a small coquina shell pad at the rear of the site. If you need a lot of space in front of your RV, it's okay to back all the way into the site on to the shell pad.

Preferred Sites: 100, 200, 300
Amenities are the same as the Full Hook-Up sites. These are called preferred only because of their proximity to the Settlement Area, Trails End, HDDR, Beach, and Marina. These 3 loops are original to Ft.W and the sites tend to be a little more compact than the sites on the Full Hook-Up loops.

Premium Loops: 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400.

The only things that make these sites "premium" is that they are all concrete, have new, composite, square picnic tables, and a grill with a shelf and cover. Some sites are so packed together that if you want to set up an E-Z Up awning, or a tent, you will have no place to stake them down. Other sites do have enough grass space around them to set up the above, but the ground may not be level enough to do so.

Pet Loops: Although there are loops that are supposed to be designated as "pet only" loops, the actual loop numbers change like the wind. In the past two years I have seen dogs on every loop in the campground, with the exception of the cabin loops. I suppose if someone booked a cabin and had a service dog, there could be a possibility of a dog in the cabin loops.

There is a sticky on the main page of the Camping Board that has a map of FtW. If you want to see where all the loops are located with their proximity to recreation areas, bus stops, etc., refer to the map.

If you make your reservation on line, make sure to print out the reservation and take it with you. You may not be asked to produce it (I never have been), but if you have made modifications to your ressie between the time you booked and the time you arrive and your site level was changed without your knowledge, you have proof of what you originally booked. Don't forget that you can always ask at check-in if there is a better price available. The CM's at check-in will help you with that.

Edit to add: Wi-Fi is not available with any site. You can either go to Wi-Fi spots within the Fort (shown on map), or you can go to the front desk and ask for a high-speed cable modem kit. The kit has a refundable $125 deposit. Access to the Fort's internet, either thru the cable modem or through the wi-fi spots requires access using the number on your KTTW card and you will be charged $9.95 for a 24 hour period (whether you use the wi-fi for 5 minutes or the full 24 hours).

Search the board, theres a fax # and form you can fill out with your request. You do this about 5 days out. I believe it goes to the people who actually assign the sites. Also when you arrive they will let you relocate, if spaces are available. We have done this before.
We were in the 1700 loop the end of March and we only had about 2 xtra feet wide at our door with 34 ft A. It was deep enough with the tail sticking out over the sand. The table was in back.
I am in 710 right now and i can almost get a second MH in here. The whole awning is over cement.

How to fax a request
Here you go!!

5 days out is when you should send the fax.
