Sister Wives

This was some years ago but I remember during one episode when they lived in Las Vegas that Meri said random women would come up to them in public and say they wanted to join the family and be another sister wife.

Heck, there are women out there who start dating and marry death row inmates.

People are strange.
This.
My coworker was just talking about her ex-(common law) SIL. He's 35, rarely works, has not money, is a dipstick parent, etc. And yet always has a girlfriend.

Lots of women just want a man not matter how bad they are.

Is it wrong that I want Kody to start courting someone new and marry more wives so Robyn can see what it was like for the other wives when she came into the family?
It is a good thought but it probably wouldn't work out the same since I believe he truly loves Robin and also she is so subservient to him that she would just abide by whatever he says anyway. She may even like that since she wanted the big family. He is totally a big jerk though.

Once this show finally stops airing new episodes, I bet Kody comes out with lots of criticism about how he was portrayed. I bet he thinks that he would be more understood and admired if he could have told his version of the story without their editing. They way he always seems to be in a defensive mode, not just explaining or dissecting something, he appears to always be trying to push his vision of their lives.

But as long as they are paying the bills, he won’t say anything.

Also, I’m soooo tired of Kody complaining how the other wives disrespected/dissed Robyn. Why didn’t he say something when it happened? In any decent or normal relationship, partners openly discuss problems and don’t sweep them under the rug. Yes, I know he doesn’t have a normal relationship with any of them but by openly saying these things, he is opening himself up to criticism for not being a responsible adult to help solve the problem. Every time he brings it up, I want to yell at the TV that he had a chance to help but he didn’t.

Just my thoughts.
I don’t know, most of his ugly has come out with his/their own filming the last two seasons. Before it was prettied up by creative editing. Seeing clips from the very beginning made me feel like we were spoon fed a big lie. Not that I completely bought “the one big happy” narrative but it certainly turned out to be more of a crapshow than I previously thought. If anything TLC spent a lot of time making him look good for 13ish seasons.

I have a feeling all of the wives were far more subservient back in the early days. I don't feel like they found their voice until they became famous and all of their dirty laundry was being aired and all of the influence from social media etc... Kind of sad because I liked them all in the beginning. I don't like to see family structures, no matter how different from mine or odd, fall apart because too much of the world creeps in. It seemed to be working when they were a private family. Even Kody seemed like a much more down to earth, caring person. We've all had to watch him unravel. He's definitely NOT the person from the first seasons. I 100% don't think this family would've come unglued the way it has if they were not in the limelight.

I think that entire dynamic would change if he brought in a younger prettier wife. She would get jealous and act in ways he has never seen her act. And once Kody turns on a wife, it's over.

I think this family had a lot of issues before, but covid really pushed them over the edge, in my opinion. Christine and Janelle were forced to choose between their kids and Kody’s draconian restrictions. He spoke a lot this week about the wives who disobeyed his rules during this time. He keeps bringing up his “near death” experience with covid though he only had a 99 degree fever and never needed hospitalization or oxygen.

Kody never cared about Covid or he never would have gone to that friend's wedding. Kody USED Covid to flex his authoritarian ways.

Of course they were. They were/are members of a religion where that’s required and lived in a part of the country where that’s the norm. I think it started in Vegas. We have a “you do you and I’ll do me” mentality out here. Getting their own homes, making friends with people who were no doubt much more independent. Why do you think Kody wanted to get out of Vegas so bad? He was losing control of the whole thing. It was too late though because they already had a taste and the show and social media kept them in the loop. Throw in a pandemic where they didn’t have to deal with him daily and BAM the final layer was lifted from their eyes and they realized they didn’t have to nor want to live under his thumb anymore. And while I agree that I hate to see any family break up, in this case it’s not a bad thing. They have discovered they can be strong, independent women and live life on their own terms.

My husband and I have a rock solid 34 year relationship and stand as a unit with our kids. They know better than to ever try to play us. That said, we’d both choose our kids over the other if push came to shove and we know that about each other. Neither of us would ever go there. That Kody thought he could says all you need to know about him.

As far as the tell all. Good gravy, look at Robyn making it all about her. I was floored at some of the things she said but at the same time I feel like a lot of that was put directly in her head by Kody. They’ve made their own little world where reality isn’t allowed in.

The last hour of the tell all was very interesting. Kody just takes no responsibility at all for the breakdown of his relationships with the other wives. He is going to get what he wants by just having 1 wife in Robin and she doesn't seem all that happy about that.

I was most impressed by Janelle and her interview. She is very level headed and admitted to her own faults but also didn't let Kody off the hook either. I like that she is happy and isn't going to let him just walk all over her.

In the end I don't think they were all the subservient but they all had common goals and did what was good for the whole family. When it came to COVID that just wasn't possible for Janelle & Christine to comply in the same way. And he went totally crazy and just dug his heels in with the mentality that it was his way or the highway. He made no effort to keep the family together or to meet the other wives half way. In the end he drove his family away. He should know that if multiple people have the same problem with you then you are the problem - not them.

When Kody and Meri got married they were like 22 and 19. Then add Janell a couple of years later and Christine.

They were all very young to start one marriage, much less 3.

So much growing up needed to happen and they were also under the influence of the patriarchal cult religion that they were in.

That was just what they knew.

Now that 30 years have gone by and they've come out into the world, it's no wonder that their relationships fell apart.

Just nurturing one relationship (dh and I married at 21) and all of the growing up that we've done has been enough. There are things that come up now that I realize were because we married so young and didn't have more life experience behind us. But we are able to work together on our one relationship and grow together.

If we were bounced to seeing each other every other day while we shared other people, it would never work.

Kudos to the women for getting out-I wish Meri would make the complete break.

Kody has never grown up enough to handle multiple women and their children at one time.

the comment kody made about his sons was SO crass and inappropriate-i would be livid if my daughter were involved with the either young man at the time kody was speaking of. so disrespectful. then to turn around and make a half hearted and bogus public apology of just 'i'm sorry'-you going into vile and attacking tirades about your sons, insulting them/their moms/their siblings/the young women they are involved in-and you think a last moment 'sorry guys' is sufficient? so wrong.

anyone else looking forward to checking out 'brother husbands' when it starts up?

lol yes, saw the promo for "Brother Husbands", will have to check it out!
Not sure I'd watch long term, but would like to see what that's all about. popcorn::

I think it started in Vegas. We have a “you do you and I’ll do me” mentality.
And as you're saying, it never ended.

To me these marriages ended & changed the way most two people marriages and relationships do, similar dynamics. Kody is an ***, and a self-centred, delusional one at that. And I am happy for all three of the women to be out of there.

But I feel a bit differently than some of the posts about this season. I would write it out but I would not want torches out for me. Smiling.

I have just watched the season in full. I did not have access earlier. I started around Christmas and could not binge because it was too damn depressing. I also happened to watch Scenes From a Marriage at the same time. Lord, not a good combination.

I also watched the first two? episodes of Season One of Sister Wives. I swear Janelle said ex-wives when she was trying to say sister wives at first. And then she has made comments that she feels that she *knows things* in life. I almost died. Laughing.

Um, Paeden is absolutely blowing up the family in some kind of interview chat on TikTok. I’ve had like half a dozen come across my feed. All three minutes long. One I found enlightening was he said he doesn’t like Robyn but he’ll never hate her because he feels she saved several of their lives from abuse. From Meri. 😳

Holy crap.

interesting about the recent allegations that kody got into a big (post break up) verbal fight with christine when she learned he was trying to get tlc to lock their adult children into non disclosure agreements so that if those 'kids' made any kind of public comments kody felt were negative/anti him/robyn...kody (thought) he could take legal action. thing was..........tlc has no issue with the adult kids (or anyone else) making comments negative (or in the very rare event-positive) about kody so tlc said 'um, yeah-no!'.

There were so many things. He says Robyn can’t cut the cord with her kids and like we all suspected AZ only came up after Dayton got accepted to college there. He made it seem like Dayton was trying to get away from her. Dayton is living in an RV in Robyn’s driveway. When I remember more I’ll come back.

edit: look for it on YouTube that’s where the original interview was. Three hours long.
