Sister Wives

I too was thinking about him not really having a "home" watching him run from house to house. Is his name on all 4 houses? Just one? I never really caught all of that. I don't think I could live life constantly on the move like that. I also don't see why he didn't have "stuff" at each house all along.

As for the baby I think he came off like a real ***. HE made the decision and never gave Merri much of a chance to answer in my opinion. And it wouldn't be so bad for her if she didn't know in her head that it was just a matter of time before another baby comes along with another wife. He can say NO to Merri but you know darn well that he will have more kids with one of them.

to me this is how i sort of saw the whole Meri/baby thing:

at the time he ORIGINALLY asked her about it, he only had 3 wives. and all of them were done with having children. so that was a way to get another one, having Meri do IVF. but then he went and married Robyn who he knows will have more of his children and he didn't really care to have more kids with Meri.

idk that's how i saw it. apparently we're the only ones who seem to think he was kind of a jerk about it.

as for last night's episode, i could see both sides of the story, i just wish they wouldn't have gotten SO defensive about everything. i mean, even they have admitted that not all polygamist families are like theirs and that there ARE ones who have been abused...so i just don't get why they were so angry at the others for sharing their stories. Robyn seemed to be the most vocal about everything. i liked Meri's stance on it "i really don't care if people agree or disagree with our way of life" that's the best way to look at it.

and i have to say...the way Christine handled being around her aunt....was sort of childish tbh. even her aunt claimed that just because she doesn't believe in it anymore, she still loves her...it's family! but then Christine just sat in the bathroom and cried until Meri and Robyn went to get her idk just seemed really childish to me.

i felt really bad for those two kids on the ex-polygamist panel....you could tell they really had been hurt by their families :(

I guess I can kind of understand their viewpoint though. The opposite side wasn't just opposed to polygamy for themselves, they were completely against it for all. I think the Browns standpoint is more so that people should be allowed to CHOOSE if it is the right lifestyle for them (that is why they talked about it with the same regards as gay marriage). I think it was an awkward situation for the one boy and then Brown family. The three ladies were so vocal they didn't really allow for a discussion, they just really tried to debate.

I do think that SOME of them feel that way, but not all of them. I think Meri and Janelle feel like that, but it seems like Robyn and Christine are on a different page.

Any thoughts on tonight's episode? I was a little stunned that they apparently hadn't thought about how they are going to pay for all of the kids colleges. Mariah want's to go back to Utah to an expensive college - basically it sounds like she just wants to meet a potential husband with the same religious views....

I felt like Mariah was being a spoiled brat (hmmm wonder where she got that from?) No I won't even consider a smaller school I want this one, I want, I want!

And what about the gifts? Did Janelle really only get that that little plaque? meri got the picture frames and another little bag, Robyn the clock and I missed what Christine got.

Christine got a bowl I think.

I was stunned for a minute until I realized who we are talking about. These people never seem to think anything through until it is happening. I thought it was interesting when they said "one of the things we haven't done as a family is have a big financial conversation" meanwhile they just moved into 4 $400,00+ houses. Maybe the time for a "big, financial discussion" was months ago? Also they already have one kid in college and just now decided to talk about how they are going to pay for college? They drive me batty!

Also, based on that conversation, can we assume that Meri gets the same share of the family money as the other wives even though she is feeding and clothing one almost adult and the other women are feeding and clothing at least 4 kids each? Yet she seemed reluctant to give up a greater portion of her "share" to put towards HER daughter's tuition (which happens to be FOUR TIMES the tuition of the other 2 college aged kids??)? I was glad that Kody at least would not entertain the idea of Christine's daughter having to live at home to subsidy Mariah's tuition.

She wont meet a potential husband with the same views at the college she wants to attend. Westminster is a private college in the middle of SLC and while its open minded it definitely is not a place for polygamists to meet. She will have a hard time meeting people with her mindset in everyday settings even in SLC proper. She would need to go to Hilldale/Colorado City to meet more than a handful of polygamists. I have a couple of friends who were raised polygamists and then left and even they have said it's not as easy as they make it seem on tv to meet like minded people who practice the same "type" of polygamy as the Browns.

"Polyg Sac" ...... :rotfl:

Yup, Mariah playing the spoiled brat crap again. Gawd. Meri allows that behavior so it will just continue. Disturbing.

I think everyone on the show cried except the babies. Ok that is some odd crap.

Were there any new episodes aired yesterday or were you all watching the TLC re-run marathon? Has the show even been picked up for another season?

New episode last night. You didn't miss much.

I would love to know where they got the figures they were throwing around for both Westminster and UNLV. if you go to either of their websites the tuition (including room and board if you're dorming on campus) is MUCH lower than what they were quoting last night. they also made a big point of saying they were not taking into consideration any scholarships the kids might qualify for-what about straight financial aide? depending on how their income from the t.v. show (and their other 'businesses') is structured (one mom vs another, cody's share, % per child into trusts...) they could be eligible for the maximum in federal grants (fafsa would look to what is merri and cody's income and assets, but take into consideration that cody is legally responsible for the support of all his children AND-A BIGGIE-they he has at least one other college student) as well as some state grants. it's also not uncommon for private universities to have generous scholarships for incoming freshman (certainly the case at the university near us where the dd from 'little people big world' as well as some of our dd's friends attend).

I can understand that Cody doesn't want his children to take out loans for school, but if you can't pay for it all, and you don't have faculty awards/ scholarships to cover the cost and jobs aren't cutting it.....where does the mystery money come from? Its just math people! That why you go to school, to educate yourself and be able to get a job that you like and pays well enough to have a decent life. If she is just going to try and find a man to marry, why bother?

Mariah is a big whiner. I would cover the cost of the UNLV tuition and she would have to come up with the rest. I am thinking the costs they were quoting were for the total package, dorms, school fees, books, food plan, etc. They did a tour of the school she likes and Logan goes to UNLV, so they have a better idea of the real costs vs what is advertised to make it look cheaper.

Nice pity party to get the Moms on board by saying that Utah will allow her to *maybe* meet a man who wants to live the same lifestyle they do. Hello pity party bus, now loading at the Browns house.

Gah! I can't stand Cody inequity of affection toward Robin! Hey! Robin can have this clock and the rest can have.....wall plaques?? Heck yes, if I was a wife, I would be looking at what he bought me vs the favored one! Yes, its a gift, but the price range should be the same if that is the rule for his family about finances being equal. if the gift is so much less money, maybe pony up and get another small gift too??

So what's going to be the big dilemma this season?
More babies?
Failing business starts?

I wish they'd introduce a new wife so Robin could feel a taste of what the other wives feel about her.

I thought it was quite telling when Cody said, "I like that clock. Somebody is getting that clock".

All about him again.

I was stunned by Kody's hard stance on student loans. It seemed so ridiculous to hear him talk about being a debt seeking society when his family have filed for bankruptcy more than once and they just went WAY into debt buying four giant houses. He is a true idiot.

And it is insane they have not had a discussion about paying for all those kids to go to college.

Those women look miserable, with Merry being Misery #1. I so tired of hearing the same conversations about working on their relationships rehashed every episode.

I was really hoping to see some fresh outlook this season since they were in the houses. Not going to happen. The houses are not going to be the fix all they thought.

Maybe I have had enough of this show.

The show has been their get-out-of-debt-buy-new-homes-pay-for-college gravy train.

Not sure why they can't manage their money now.

All the adults should get jobs like the rest of society does, especially when there are so many mouths to feed and send to college.

Do any of the kids have part time jobs?

Yes at least one kid has been shown to have a part time job in a fast food outlet.

That's good.

When I first watched the show I really like Meri. Now I can't stand her constant pity-party.
