Sister Wives, anyone???

Ohhh, this makes sense. I was under the impression that technically, they're all just a bunch of roommates (except Meri), so what law would they be breaking?

But if Utah recognizes common law marriage then that makes sense.

Common law marriage usually requires that you hold yourself out as married. IOW, you call the woman your wife in public. That's exactly what they are doing. If he went around saying these women are my baby-mommas or girlfriends or lovers or roommates, he would be fine under the law. Once he starts calling them his wives, he's a bigamist.

Ok, so unlike a lot of people, I have had personal interaction with Polygamists and I have to admit...it is soooo not for me. However, the people I have come in contact with are usually Male dominate and controlling societies where women must wear special clothes to hide themselves, as well as veils during child bearing times. They dress much like the Muslims you see today. I was totally surprised by the show Sister Wives and have come to enjoy it very much. While their lifestyles are completely opposite from what I believe, I watch them and see them interact and have to admit...I do not know one monogamist family that has that much love and respect for one another! Cody and his families do not live off of any government and ALL of the adults work to take care of their families! I do not agree with multiple marriage but it somehow, works for them! They love each other so much that they are willing to uproot 22 people to keep the family together. Cody does NOT control or run anything! He makes time for everyone involved. Polygamy is not illegal in most states. Bigamy, however, IS! The difference? Polygamy is being legally married to ONE person and co habitating with others. If that were illegal, half the people I know who are living with someone but married to someone else would be facing charges! Bigamy is being legally married to multiple people in one or more states and IS illegal! I think they should be left alone. They are not hurting anyone and by our OWN definitions, are breaking no laws known to Man!

Ohhhh, got it.

They also sealed the marriage in a Morman wedding ceremony.

I just watched the shows from Sunday and I found them very boring. I can't see this show lasting as there is just so much drama they can inflict for their viewers. They added a new wife, now they are moving to escape legal persecution, and next will be Robyn pregnant. What more can they do to keep people's attention?

I think a lot of people, like me, tuned into this show because it showed a different lifestyle but watching the wives go to the grocery store isn't all that interesting to me.

The women seem nice and the kids seem nice too. Too bad they are getting ripped off with having Kody as a husband and father. I don't see much interaction between Kody and anybody else.

Do you know this family?

I agree they should be left alone, but as the OP said, they put their family on tv for everyone to see.

Are you kidding me? Have you watched both seasons?

Meri, Christine and Robyn do NOT work. Janelle and Kody as are the only ones working.

Kody makes almost NO time at for all those children…..NONE, that I have witnessed. He is ALWAYS running out the door to go someplace and then he MIGHT ask a child to ride with him in the car. He is not a "Dad" IMHO.

And he absolutely NO QUESTION ABOUT IT controls absolutely everyone in that house. Period. Its his way or the highway.

I don't see Cody as the control type at all:confused3

::yes:: In the most recent episode, or maybe the one before that, he said to Christine (I think? I get her mixed up with Janelle) "did we not agree that I would be the one to make decisions for this family?" when she was upset about moving.

IMHO! He absolutely is the one in control. Here is a 'snippet' from a dinner Meri and Kody had first season…..
"The most surprising moment, maybe even shocking, is when Meri asks how he would feel if she was giving her affection to another man. Kody isn't just upset by the idea, he's downright sickened, and says it's an affront to god and nature for a woman to have two husbands -- and corrects it to a husband and a lover."

:thumbsup2 See, there he is controlling again.

In the most recent epi …. did he take any of those teens aside and sit down with them and discuss the move? NO, not at all. Those kiddos are heartbroken to be leaving their friends.

You honestly don't know what he did or said to those children. You only saw what was edited for you to see. You are not with them day in and day out. We see 22 minutes of their lives. We really have no idea what goes on, what type of father he is.

Nothing wrong with sharing the love if it consensual. People should be more concerned about families with abuse and molestation crimes being committed against their children.

Calm down…sheesh, IF you read my post I stated it was MY opinion. Period. MY opinion. I think he is a poor excuse for a father….there is no way he could possibly work full time, have a relationship with FOUR women and still have time for 16 children with the 17th on the way. JMHO.

This just made me giggle...it is not kosher at all... :rotfl:

I was thinking the same exact thing. It made me laugh also. This is definitely NOT kosher. I love that expression though...especially being Jewish, that expression makes me laugh everytime someone says it.

I haven't seen a new episode for over 2 weeks. The last one was Meri's colonoscopy.

Did I miss an episode? Is the season over?

Yes, Claudia, on Sunday night there were two back to back episodes. One prep up to Christmas holiday and one on Christmas! TLC repeats allot. I am sure you will find them to view before the week is out. :thumbsup2

The only think I wish Kody would control is his hair.
What is with the running his hands through it every minute?

Has anyone noticed he's doing it more? Maybe a nerve thing?

I don't watch this show on a regular basis - just if I happen to land on that channel - and this past Sunday I caught the two back to back episodes..

There's something about Kody that I find very unsettling.. It has nothing to do with how many wives he has - or how many children he has - just something I can't quite put my finger on.. When I see him, I get a very uneasy feeling (think shifty loan shark) and there's something in his eyes - like there's a whole boat load of anger there, just waiting to explode.. I would never want to encounter him in person - because whatever it is that I'm seeing in him is very frightening..

I would hope for the sake of his wives - and his children - that I'm a million miles off base, but the bottom line is that he scares me..:guilty:

Be that as it may, if they are not breaking the laws in the state they are living in, I don't think they should be forced to move due to fear of the unknown.. On the other hand, if they are making money from this show, wouldn't they have enough to hire an attorney who can tell them that "xyz" will or will not happen?:confused3 Kody said several times on the Sunday shows that they simply "didn't know".. Well - get on the phone and find out! Sheesh!! Don't torture the wives and children with such a lame response.. As "head of the household", isn't it his responsibility to find out? :headache:
