My car is 3 months old today so they shut off the 3 month trial of Sirius.
I had read here that some people got the offer of $75 for a year but they never made that offer to me. The best they offered was $12.95 a month which I think is outrageous for me.
I have had the car for 3 months and put on a little over 3,000 miles ONLY because I just got back from a trip to FL which is 1,200 miles each way. So in 3 months I drove less than 600 miles. I don't drive enough to make paying $13 a month for a radio worth it to me. I would pay the $77 a year though, that is ok.
How did you go about getting them to reduce the fees? I have talked to them a few times and asked for the better deal but all they did was take $2 a month off. they called me a few times and I got 4 bills in the mail but never any lower prices. I thought if I waited till today they would call and make me a better offer but all they did was shut me off.

It took us several attempts (maybe 5) to get a rep who would give a deal.

I pleaded that my DH loved sirius, but that DH's job was iffy, and everyone was on reduced hours.

Good Luck....you have to just get the rep who wants to help you!

OP - we were int he same boat - except we got 6 months for free :rolleyes1

However, I was not going to renew because they wouldn't budge on the price and we listen to both music and talk - so the either/or package wouldn't work for us.

SO much to the dismay of my wife - I just let it expire.

Well, the next week I was out of town on business and they called to offer 1 year at 1/2 price. So my wife jumped at the offer - so we are good for another 12 months.

They also have a lifetime offer- but it's $500 I think - and you can make payments - BUT - it's only for as long as you own the car - NOT your lifetime

I wish! :)

Anyway, they should be calling you soon with incentive offers.

Just wait - they want customers - they will call with a better offer! :wizard:

I went about 2-3 weeks with it shut off. They called twice, and the second time I told them I really wanted it but it just wasn't in the budget. They offered me a very reduced rate, but I declined. They then offered me something like $15 for 5 months. I took it!

I would guess that once it is actually turned off you'll start getting better offers. We turned ours (a non-car installed one) off. A couple months later, we got an offer for $20 (or maybe it was $25, I can't exactly remember) for 5 months to turn it back on for 5 months, so we did that. If I get a similar deal, I will keep it when that expires, otherwise I'll let it expire again and see what happens.

Ours was shut off last week and I miss it, but It's not worth $12+ a month. Our last deal was in the $20 range for 6 months and it was nice.

My wife's van XM was set to die and I was going to let it and then knew the better offers would come in and they have yet to turn it off. so our price is $0 a month. Not sure how long it will last but it has been 3+ months with it for free. lesson learned - don't renew before it is shut to turn off.

Mine expired at the beginning of February and we have received at least one letter a week and/or email with deals as low as $77 a year, so let it expire if you don't get the deal you want...they will send better offers.... :)

I got the "lifetime" a few years ago. But then I tend to keep my cars about ten years and 180,000 miles. And I love Classical music and don't have any local stations that are even half time classical.

Call and tell them you're going to cancel because it's too expensive. They'll send you over to account retention and offer you a deal. What I did was call and say "How much of a discount is it to pay yearly?" It wasn't much, so I said I thought I was just going to cancel because the cost was way too much.

They sent me over to another rep to cancel, who promptly offered me a year for $88 instead of $44 a quarter.

Mine shut off Feb 21st (right in the middle of a Billy Joel song LOL). I knew I would wait for offers, because when I bought my last car and let it go, I got a really good deal, it was around $3 a month for 5 or 6 months. But that was 4 years ago. Early this week, I got an e-mail offer for buy 6 months get 6 free. It's better, but I am still waiting to see if they sweeten the offer a bit more. With gas going up, every penny helps. I also have a built in mp3 player in the car, so I may just leave it off.

I know my experience isn't the norm (at least I hope not!) but the Sirius Radio customer service is TERRIBLE!! WE are in the process of disputing charges on our cc bill now from them.. They have charged $590 on our cc over the last three months and have no record of it!! I have called MANY times,... been on hold for HOURS.. asked for a manager and been told "they don't have one" and never gotten it resolved!!

They show that they have "reimbursed me" several hundred dollars onto a credit card that I don't even have!! It is a nightmare and we are still in the middle of it! Just a warning... I don't want anyone else to have to deal with their customer service... EVER!!!:headache::headache:

PS... The customer service reps for "new accounts" are very nice and helpful, but the billing question reps are a mess! Just a tip, if you have a question about your account, tell them you are a new customer when you call.. you will get much better service!

I've been a lifetime subscriber for several years (I did mine through the pre-merger XM) -- I paid much less than the $500 that was quoted on this thread.

Unless you are going to keep the car a long time, it is not worth it. If you sell the car you cannot transfer it to another one. The only time is if the car is totaled.

Wow, I never knew that if you had a unit installed in the car, you couldn't get the lifetime membership transferred. We have an aftermarket unit and our lifetime offer included three transfers to new units.

::yes::

Our unit came with our minivan, it was supposed to have the 3 month free trial but the dealer sucked and it was turned off 2 weeks after we bought the van....we were not happy! We called to ask about it, they said we were supposed to get 3 months free, they set up the account and gave us 3 free months, after that they wanted $9.95 a month or something like that, so we decided we didn't need/want it. Then they called DBF and offered him a lifetime subscription for one fee with up to 3 transfers....so we did that. We drive our cars into the ground so I anticipate we will have that Sirius radio for some time. :) I think we paid the $500 for it but can't remember for sure, it was in 2006 and we are still using the first receiver. :) So we still have 3 transfers to go before our subscription is up. :)

Interesting....we are expecting the three month free trial to be up any day on my husband's new car. He likes it, but considering that his drive to work is one or two songs, he's not willing to pay $12 a month. Guess we'll see if he gets a better offer - thx for the info!

It is annoying how they are all over the place with the pricing. I called to cancel the end of last year and they offered me a year for around $65 with tax.

We had it free for 3 months and did not renew it. It's just another expense we don't need right now. They called us with several offers too. First it was $16.95/mo. Then $12.95/month. The last time it was like $60 for the year and I told her to call back when it's free ;)
