 This is probably the worst sinus infection I have had. I have been on antibiotics for 3 days and feel no better. Pressure, drainage, sneezing, sore throat. Ugh. I have been taking a day/night Tylenol product. I can't remember the name of it but I'm not getting significant relief.

For the last few years I've been taking Claritin in the Fall/Spring to avoid developing this. I thought it was too early, but I guess not. Once I'm over it, I'll start it again.

What do you use when you are battling a sinus infection? TIA

Many people that I know have been using the Neti Pot with great results.

Google it, and there are demonstrations on how to use.

This, the Neti Pot^^^^^

But, if you can't handle doing the rinse, some people can't, at least try using a saline nasal spray. It will help to thin out the mucus.

Thanks. :) :goodvibes I looked through my home pharmacy and found some I bought for the kids a long time ago. It's still good. Yea! I've already taken it.

Thank you for the replies, guys. I don't know if the neti pot is for me. I think I could do the nasal spray though.

My nose has been really dry/itchy lately, I've been thinking about doing a saline rinse. Is it like when you go under water? Does your nose burn when you do it?

Yes Yes Yes!! I have horrible sinus infections at least twice a year. I'd take the medicine, which helped, but the Neti Pot is FANTASTIC. I love it!! I really recommend it. It seems scary to use and it is a little awkward to use at first but once you feel the results, you too will fall in love with it! :thumbsup2

Feel better!

My DS-11 gets really bad sinus infections every year. One was so bad that he was hospitalized because the infectin was eroding his facial bone.

I give him an allergy pill to try and prevent.

What really works for him is Sudafed Sinus and pain 12hour

definitely the mucinex and the neti pot. I am someone who would get sinus infections 1-2 times a month!. Since I started the neti pot I only get them once every 3-4 months!

I would also call your doctor for a stronger antibiotic-after 3 days you should have some improvement.

Oh my gosh I had the sinus infection from H E double hockey sticks this year. It just about drove me bonkers. I finally got relief after faithfully using Mucinex and a sinus rinse.

Mucinex DM and fluids.... Mucinex DM at night to stop the drainage that made me gag and lots of water and juice during the day helped alot...

The second sinus infection I had this year I had to go on antibiotics it was so bad but I still took the Mucinex DM with it... I was on Augmentin... I had pain in my jaw that time... Yikes it was bad...

Good luck and feel better soon....

I used to get them a lot. Make yourself drink more water. That seems to help me.

I find a Neti pot uncomfortable, but I love the results. I like the NeilMed bottle as an alternative http://www.neilmed.com/usa/products.php. Also, my one big must is Puff Plus with lotion-no shredded nostrils!

Another vote for neti pot and Mucinex. I don't know how I survived colds without them in the past!

I have noticed that since using the neti pot, my OTC med usage has gone way down. If I'm using the neti pot during a sinus cold, then I only have to use Mucinex during the worst of it as opposed to taking it throughout the entire cold.

Have you been tested for allergies? If you get sinus infections a lot, that could be the cause. I finally went to the allergist and found out I am allergic to cats(I have 4) and dust(I have lots of that:rotfl:) Now, I take claritin AND Flonase every day and it has seemed to help cut down the number of infections.

When I do have one, I take sudafed---the kind you have to get at the pharmacy, because it can be made into speed, not the stuff on the shelf. It helps with the congestion and the pain. Mucinex is good for the mucus in your throat. Benadryl is good at night to stop the itching and help you sleep.

Add me to the Mucinex and Neti Pot club. I used to basically live with a constant sinus infection November through March until I started using it last year.

This year I added a 2,000 IU daily dose of Vitamin D and I haven't had a single infection all season. When my doctor suggested it, I thought he was a lunatic... but it has made a huge difference. Something about boosting the immune system. :confused3

sinus infections are not usually caused by bacteria so antibiotics may be useless. They can be viral, fungal, or caused by allergies.

Some dr's (mine here in OH, and SIL's in CT) say that antibiotics are not the standard practice anymore. Getting unstuffed (nasal rinses, decongentants, etc) are.

OK, I am going to get a Neti pot today. I am pregnant and I have had a sinus infection for 2 months and I can't take any decongestants. Thanks for the info everyone! I am tired of being sick.

How often do you use the Neti pot while actively sick? Everyday? :goodvibes

You can use it twice a day while having an active cold or sinus issue. I'm not sure what the maintenance dosing is; however, some recent reports came out that said you CAN overdo it when you use it when you are well. Apparently if you use it too much, you can flush out some of the protective mucous and cells that are there to stop germs.
