I have been home sick for the past couple of days with an upper respitory virus(?) infection(?). Doctor gave me an antibiotic b/c it has gone to my ears but when I woke up this morning my sinuses are KILLING ME!! Since the meds will cover a sinus infection, I just need some relief from the pain.
HELP!!

There has to be someone out there that has bad sinus headaches besides me. Please help.

The best I can say to do for the pain is to take a washcloth and run hot water over it -- as hot as your skin can stand it -- and lay it across your sinuses.

Is it going to storm or has stormed recently at your house? I find that when the barometer is really low I feel like my head is being squeezed so hard my eyes are going to pop out.

I take an alieve, a hot shower with a vicks fizz tablet, if I have them at home. If I don't have any fizz tablets, I also have been known to boil a pot of water put some vicks rub in it and lean over to breathe it in. After a couple mins of this, I let it simmer on low and just walk in the kitchen every once in a while to breathe it in again.

I hope you find some relief. Do you get the headaches often. I'm seeing a neurologist soon because of my sinus headache/migraines to hopefully find some relief.

take sudafed, motrin and then get in a hot steamy shower.

Exactly. And if it's a really bad headache (to the point where I feel like vomitting) I take three sudafeds at once. It clears my sinuses and makes me human again. Just up your water intake when you take sudafed.

I found that Motrin/Aleve worked wonders for sinus headaches--to bad that *I* can no longer take it. Give it a try with the Sudafed--I think you'll get some relief.

Pinch the very top of your nose where it hits your forehead for about 30 seconds, that helps relieve some of the pressure when I have a sinus headache. If you happen to have any lavendar oil (such that is used for aromatherapy), take a big whiff of that and it can help also. A hot, steamy shower is also great.

If you don't want to take a whole shower for your sinuses, you can also use steam from a pot of water, just throw a towel over your head to help hold in the steam. DH does this sometimes. Also warm compresses help. If your sinuses are a chronic problem NeilMed Sinus Rinse is great(DH swears by it). http://www.unimedprod.com/products.shtml

Buy some of those shower soother tablets at your drug or grocery store. Stick one of them in the bottom front of the shower and then close the doors and take a nice hot shower.:thumbsup2

I also bought one of those Head Ons as advertised on TV (the annoying commercial!) and I rub it on my forehead and around the cheekbones and that gives me relief as well.

I know for me, the hot shower is sometimes the only thing that will help. Of course, that's usually after I've taken the prescriptions & pain meds. Hope you feel better soon!

I should have guessed you were one of those annoying people in that commercial:headache: :lmao:

There is a spot between your collar bone & shoulder that will drain your sinus. Feel under the collar bone going towards the shoulder. When you get to the spot the 2 meet lift your shoulder up & it makes a cavity you can almost see that point, it will drain the cavity in your chest which will start the sinus cavities in your head to drain. You can feel the sinus draining down your throat. I'm at work or I would google a picture for you.

Another vote for NeilMed Sinus Rinse! It came highly recommended by my dr. during a particularly ugly sinus gunk fest. The stuff is pretty amazing really!

neilMed is wonderful.

I have chronic sinus migraines. If I am not on top of things with my nasal sprays, I am guaranteed to get one.

The best thing that helps my sinuses is what I call my "ghetto eucalyptus sauna".
I shut my bathroom door, run the shower on very hot on mist, and put some vicks vapor rub or vicks oil on the floor of the shower. I plop myself down on the toliet with a book and spend a good 20min in there. My dog has upper respiratory issues and the vet told me to bring him in there for 5min with me if his are bad as well.

I also put vicks in a crockpot of water, put on high, and keep putting a face cloth in it and then putting the cloth over my face.

Thanks everyone! I am going to put some vicks in the shower now. ONe more question what is neilMED?

Great ideas!

I've suffered from sinus problems since I was in the 6th grade. When I was pregnant I couldn't take medicines so I asked my doctor how to handle them.

He told me to sleep sitting up....

This was difficult but it worked. My sinuses are mega bad in the morning so this helps them to drain naturally.

To this day I wake up an hour earlier and sit straight up. I have a special pillow to help me. In an hour my head clears up. If it doesn't work I need an antibiotic..stat!

Love the Vicks suggestions! I remember my Mom slathering me down with Vicks as a kid. I equate that smell with love..

I have been sleeping partially sitting up and I use Breathe Right Strips too.
