Single Rider Lines

Please tell me if it's ok to use the single rider line with a 9 year old. There will be 5 of us on our next trip 3 adults, DS 13 and DD 9. I was thinking we could take advantage of the single rider lines on Rock in Roller Coaster and Soar'n. Would you use the single rider line if say at least one adult in our party was before and one or two of our adults were behind my 9 year old?

Yes. All SRs must be a minimum of 7yo, so you're good to go assuming height requirements are met. Understand that you will likely be separated, including possibly into different ride vehicles, and your 9yo should be aware of the possibility of being stuck briefly with strangers.

Yes. I tried to get my 8 year old to do this on Test Track but she said "no." She and I rode stand by, and my husband and the boys rode twice (could have gone 3 times) before we even rode once. After that she was grumpy because she didn't try it and wished she had.

It kinda depends on the 9 year old, but remember that with the single rider line, it won't matter who is behind or in front of your DD9 - she be on her own for the actual ride. This came up at Test Track yesterday - family in front of us was arguing with a CM about being separated from her DD, who looked to be about 7. The mom kept on encouraging her DD to go, but DD clearly was not comfortable by herself. The CM warned her that her DD would have to be ok riding by herself, at which time the mom (thankfully) decided to go over to the regular line.

Is your DD totally familiar and comfortable with both rides? With waiting for you by herself after she gets off (if you guys get separated)?

Yep. You'll be fine. DD and I used single rider lines for EE, TT, and RnRC last trip and she was just 8 at the time. I always had her go first, and she knew to wait for me at the exit. It worked great for those rides.

Just FYI, Soarin does not have a SR line. EE, RnRC, And TT are the only ones at WDW that have them

So that is my question. Lets say we use single rider on Rock n Rollercoaster which she has been on before. If we get separated, but one adult gets on before her and at least one gets on after her would you be comfortable that even though she rides in a different car an adult from our party will be reasonably close so she doesn't end up alone after the ride?

This is the best idea, sending her between the adults so she'll be with someone before and after the ride should make both her and you more comfortable with the process. You'll be fine as long as she's okay lining up on her own and getting on the ride without someone she knows. I've seen kids freak out once they realize someone's not coming with them, so talk it over in depth before you go and as you wait if you think there might be an issue. At 9, she should be okay

My husband and I (very clearly well over the age of 9!) use single riders line whenever we can. What I encourage your daughter to do, if she is comfortable with it, is to talk to her "other half". Quite often, I am put in with another family and sometimes they are a little bewildered by why I am in there with them. If I talk first, they relax. On Expedition Everest, I was with a father whose two sons were in the car in front of us. The other three had never ridden so once I started talking to the father, he relaxed and so did his sons. I never gave anything away but it turned out to be all four of us having a fantastic time.

We used the single rider lines when my DS was young, no more than 7, and all we did was made sure we had a meeting place after. We usually said to wait where you see the pictures after the ride. (haven't been recently so don't know if they have changed things) That way there was a set place and a place with CM's nearby.

Never had a problem.

My daughter has been riding single rider since the moment she was tall enough for Everest (she was 7) because her chicken Mom won't ride it. She just got tall enough for RnR but her Dad was on this trip with us so she had someone to ride with. Next trip, it will just be myself and the kids again so she will do RnR alone or with her 11 year old brother in single rider.

She has no problem with it but is veeerrry comfortable in Disney.

It would be totally fine my DD has been doing them since she was 9 she loves the short waits and getting to go on over and over alone. She is now almost 15 and still loves those lines because me I am not a fan or bigger rides.

No problem, as long as both you and the child understand that you will almost certainly be separated.
