I'm a single mom of 2 girls aged 10 & 7. We'll be on the 7-day Western on June 22.

I was just wondering if there are usually many single parents onboard? I read somewhere about a single parent get together, but I don't want to be the only one there!

Thanks!

Lisa

I'm a single parent too, but I'll be on the Wonder, May 26. I usually can talk with people quite easily but I, too, was wondering how many may be aboard at that time. I'm not looking for a dating opportunity, just a few new friends to chat with and have a good time.
I hope we both find that we are not "rare" on these cruises.

Hi, Lisa!!
I'm not a single parent, so I can't help you with your question, but I wanted to invite you to the June 22 Western thread. We are having a lot of fun getting to know each other and there are some children that are about the ages of your children who are going the same week. So, come on over!

I'm not a single parent, but I did cruise once with just my daughter (5 at the time) and me during her school break. It was fine; I didn't feel at all out of place. She enjoyed the Oceaneer's Club so much that she didn't eat with me (this was a 3-day). The only slight glitch was the evening of Nassau day, (she & I had done the dolphin swim), she was exhausted that evening. I got a page during dessert---went to get her---back to the room. Quite frankly, I was exhausted too. Daughter went to sleep; I ordered dessert from room service, sat on the verandah & relaxed! She slept for 10 hours; I was on the verandah early that morning enjoying coffee & a sunrise!

I am a single parent too, but I will be traveling with friends who have children that go to gymnastics with my daughter. We are only going on a three day but feel lucky we are going at all.

Here is a trip report I found VERY refreshing, in case I decide to go by myself (with DD9) for a week next time:

It is in the trip reports and was posted by a single parent on the Magic.

I think you would enjoy reading it, I know I did!!!!!:D

Yes! I do remember specifically on the cruise things listed in the navigator and announcements being made for specific single parent get togethers.

Thank you so much for the nice words about my trip report! I'm so glad it was able to help someone else! :)

Lisa --
From what I have heard from other people, the number of singles can really vary -- and the number of singles who actually show up for the posted singles' get-togethers can vary even more. My advice would be to go to that first get-together at Sessions on Saturday night, while the girls are getting settled in their Clubs (a good idea anyway, because it will be hard for them to get into things if a lot of the other kids have already bonded with each other.) At the very least, you will get to spend some time with one of the always-amazing Cruise Staff, and probably a free drink. (Ours were free that first night.) And you might even make some new friends if other singles show up! If you're the only one there that night, don't let that deter you from going to the singles' lunch the next day -- a lot of times, folks are too tired that first night and just go to bed.

You are going to have a ball!! I can't wait to be back!! :) :)
