single parent families

I also feel like there should be a place for us single parents to connect... I feel a meet-up going on! I'm taking DD2 on her 6th Disney trip the weekend before Thanksgiving... any of you headed that way then?

!

We are actually going the 14th to the 22nd! Celebrating DD turning 10 on the 21st!!!
When do you arrive?

No, I haven't read it. I'll have to look for it next time I sneak into B&N :lmao:

Single mom here too with dd12 and ds1. This past March was our first trip and we were hooked. We were planning another trip for next March but it may be a no go (but I'm keeping hope alive!). We are definitely going back Dec 2010 so I can spoil my kiddies with an early Christmas gift!

I'm a single mom to two beatiful chosen daughters. We love all things Disney! We have never totally gone alone. We go with extended family or family friends. We're heading to WDW Nov 23 thru Dec 4. We live 3 1/2 hours from Disney Paris so we go there several times a year but still love going to Florida.

Shawna - we're not too far apart then. I'm about an hour south of Indy. Do you drive or fly down?

I haven't decided yet. We have never been before, but I drive 8-9 hours all the time to see my family. I am just not sure I want to drive for 2 days alone with three kids in places I am not familiar with. If I can get tickets for about 800 total, then we might just fly. It would cost almost that much with at least 2 hotel rooms, gas, and food for 2 days there and 2 days back. Plus if I spend 4 days driving that is 4 less days of vacation I have.

Keep looking. I got roundtrip Direct flight out of Detroit (NWA) in June for around $150 each (purchased about a month ago). The ones for this trip in December were around $220 each (purchased almost a year early).

I am in the tri-cities area. Getting away for Christmas this year sounded wonderful.

i also got an amazing deal from southwest, i have to drive a bit to get to the airoport, but i could't be happier with the price, and it is a direct flight in in the early am,so gets us to MCO by 10:30 am, and we leave from MCO at 8PM also direct, so we are getting maximum vacation time :cool1:

we will be there from jan 2-jan 9

Sorry I did not read the entire thread, but I think single parents traveling to Disney getting in touch is a great idea. My daughter (7) and I will be taking our first trip to Disneyworld November 27 - December 1 and we would be very much interested in meeting other single parents there, especially with kids of a similar age. My daughter would enjoy a playmate and I would not mind some adult conversation. We can also take turns watching the kids. If you are interested, please send me an email.

I was just curious. I've seen so many people that drive down, but I just don't feel comfortable with that being the only person driving (my DD just got her license in June & I don't want her to get the idea too soon of driving down there :rolleyes1 ).

I've found some great deals on Southwest - may check them.
Have a great trip!

I've been on my own with my kids 7 and 10 for 4 years (but really its been longer sine the ex wasn't much help before he left) I love travelling with my kids-we've done disney 2x and chicago 5 times. it would be nice to meet others i the same situation. My kids love travelling and are great

I thought maybe we should find out if we can get a special board for Single Parents. There is one for adults, families and solos, so why not one for the single parent families!? Then we could have a thread for single parent tips and maybe one for posting our dates and resorts for anyone who wants to meet up. I was going to start a couple of threads for the above, but thought since the OP actually got around to starting this thread that they shoudl have the option of the honour first.

I SOOOO wish I could squeeze in an extra trip in December but we have already been this year and have booked next year so unless by some great surprise we are going to have to be patient.

I noticed your post because I also have a DD7 who is an only child. It seems like a waste that you will be there and I don't get to hook up with you. In April by pure chance I actually met another single mom on the bus back to our resort with her daughter (10) and we ended up doing the Animal Kingdom together the next day. What was great was that for the rides our kids didn't fancy, we were able to take turns. It was SOOO good to have non work-related adult conversation and to see DD enjoying some social interaction. It is so healthy for all of us. Since I have marked this post, if anything changes (I really DO believe in miracles so I haven't ruled it out) and we are able to travel before Xmas, I will try and co-ordinate our dates so that we can meet up. Never say never. I am sure you will find someone more than happy to share some time with you. There are so many of us - we just need to plan a bit and communicate now. Hence my wish for our own little section on the board!

Single mom here to 2 boys aged 1 and 3. We go to Disney every year with my parents, brother and sister. It is truly like going home. I can just be free and see my kids having such a wonderful and magical time without having to worry about my ex, school, and everything else. I love being a mom and wouldn't have it any other way. I also love raising Disney freaks and hope they turn out just as addicted to Disney as me.

Single mom by choice here! I brought my dd to Disney when she was 3 and 4. This year she's 6 and we're going with my mother -- my father just passed away and mom thought this would be a good way to spend the holidays. I couldn't agree more!

I actually loved being there with just my daughter -- we scheduled our days exactly as we needed, lots of character meals, and it was terrific.

It would be nice for her to have the chance to play with other kids, tho'.

I've been a single mom for 3 years now. We are going to the World 11/21-11/28. I have 3 kids, ds16, ds12 and dd8. I feel traveling to the world is so easy and I always feel safe. The drive down is the hardest part, but my oldest got his license recently so I may allow him to do some driving. Sometimes it does get hard having to make all the decisions, but I have to make all the decsions in our real life too! This is our 3rd trip alone and I'm beginning to get excited!

I will keep looking. I am willing to fly out of South Bend, Indianapolis, or Chicago. None of them too far, South Bend is really close, and I have people I could crash with in Indianapolis or Chicago so it wouldn't be too bad.

That is part of the reason why I am hesitant to drive. My son will only be 13 when we go, so no driving for him for a long time yet. I do drive to visit family like I said 8-9 hours but I am not sure how well I would do that 2 days in a row.

I'm still looking :) I am not buying the tickets till January (after Christmas) so I have a little while anyway.

Single Mommy of a DS 10 here! Went in the spring, then for Halloween, and I am trying to figure out how to go again in Jan for his birthday. LOL My work won't think too kindly of me I think if I do that. I always take one of his step-kids or two with us when I go because I do not do the rides. We always drive down because I am too chicken to fly... He is Mr. Daredevil though and loves all things roller coaster-y.

Nice to meet everyone!

Glad I found this thread! Single mom with DS10 and DS3. We live fairly close, so we go often. And since we are DVC members we often stay for a few days at a time, (even though we could drive home in under an hour!! :)) So since we spend so much time at WDW, meeting up with other single parents is that much more desirable. Was just there for MNSSHP last weekend with my boys and we had a blast... however some adult conversation would be welcome, while waiting in lines for rides, and especially during TS meals... I am often surprised at the strange looks I get when my boys and I are seated.... just the 3 of us.
We are going back in a couple weeks (11/13 - 11/15), and again for MVMCP (on Dec 11). We are also setting sail on our first Disney Cruise in late Jan, but I am bringing my mom along on that one... not sure I am ready for a cruise alone.... at least not the first time.
Would definitely love to see this thread help us plan meets, etc...
