single parent families

I would love to do a Disney cruise the bummer is the prices are quoted based upon 2 adults. I would love to see if we had a group if they would offer us single parent rates! Meaning one adult prices!
I would love it if they would offer that... why they haven't already is actually quite surprising. I was just talking to DCL about this yesterday. My recent dilemma is that I have booked myself and my two DSs on the Wonder in January, I asked my mom to come along w/ me since I wanted to take advantage of the "kids sail free" offer. However, in order to do that, you must have two full fare adults in your stateroom. Well, I decided to bribe my mom to tag along :), (she is not a fan of cruising) in order to reap full benefit of the offer... Well, wouldn't you know it, now my mom has decided that she can no longer go, and so it is just me and the boys. I have no worries about that, as I am used to travelling alone w/ them, but the issue is that if DCL removes my mom from the ressie they will have to then place my 11 yo DS in the second full fare adult slot, so only my 4 yo DS cruises for free now. Basically, if I had someone (another adult) that could have filled her spot, 4 people, instead of 3, could still be sailing for the same exact price! Sigh....
So YES.... DCL needs to become accomodating to single parent families!! In the past I looked into taking my kids on a vacation through "Beaches" and they DO offer single parent rates/pkgs all the time!

I watached this thread for a while and wondered where it went...I am glad to join to keep it alive! It's just dd7 and myself. It's not easy but I am blessed with a very smart and energetic little girl. It does have "moments" though. Ex-Dh lives three hours away and does not spend enough time with her, and when he does DD usually misses out on something that is important to her.WDW is "our thing" and planning the trips is so much for the two of us. I treasure the time we have there because all of the interruptions go away and the best quality time we get. I love to see her face light up because we always find new things to do and see.

Another single mom here! My dd is now 10 and we  Disney! Our last trip was the end of August this year and we had a great time as usual. We never have to worry about what "the group" wants to do. We head out and do what we want, when we want, and as many times as we want! :rotfl:

:welcome: to the thread ! I am usually alone with my 2 kids also, they're father is not very reliable ot depenadable,so I can definitly relate.
I also love travelling with my kids, it is our time where we can all have fun,no homework,no housework, no school or work or pets, we love to get away, especially to disney :cloud9:

That is absolutely the best part of being a single parent at WDW! No worries, no compromising, do what we want when we want to do it! It's great! Last trip on the last dd wanted go back and do something at each park, being the two of us it was no problem!

Hello all :)

Single mom here also, dd is 8 and we're planning her Make a Wish trip right now. We're both veeery excited, to say the least! Stitchaholic told me about this thread so I thought I would pop in. We get our dates on Tuesday! The ex sees her sporadically at holidays and summer vacations, and might call her once or twice in between the visits, so it's mostly just the two of us. Hoping the thread will get more active!

Count me in, divorced mother of 3, doing it all by myself and still having fun. I have been going to disney every year since my 16 year old was 3. My baby now 7 has been 8 times and I'm ready to book for this summer now:thumbsup2.

Also a single mother of one adorable princess. I am planning a trip for DD's birthday week in October. Hope this thread picks up again.

I have one DD and we are also planning to go down in October as well. It will be the 3rd trip just the two of us. I actually started putting some thoughts together about the trip today!

So glad I found this thread! I'm a single mom-- my DD is 9. I get a lot the comments other's have mentioned.. "Didn't you just go" "How do you afford to go all the time." etc.

Like others I feel safe at WDW, and it is worth the little extra money or maybe not staying in as nice of a hotel to stay on property. I tell people we have so much fun and enjoy our trips to WDW that it is worth every penny. To me I'd rather spend the money on a vacation I know we'll love. Plus after I drive the 8 hours to FL, I can park my car and have someone else do all he driving for a week. It's wonderful!

:welcome:

so happy that you joined us ! looks like their may be some single DIS parent meets in october, I am secretly hoping for a mom's only trip for F&W and my b-day in october. Not sure if i can swing it though,we will have to see what they are offering at that time.

my kids are going to my ex and his mother's for christmas, they will be away for 5 days, as much as i need the break,i am not sure what to do with myself,i am just not used to having so much free time,it is the holidays,so no work for me either, the house will be clean and the:laundy: will be done,i guess i will pack and get my toes ready for the hopefully warm florida weather jan 2nd.

I wanted to chime in as yet another single-parent-Disney fan. I appreciate this thread and just discovered it today. I have a DS (10) and we will make our first "alone trip" this Saturday. All of our other visits have been with family members we have persuaded to come with us. My DS was indoctrinated with all things Disney in the womb but he loves to share Disney with his cousins or whomever else we can get to go. I'm looking forward to our first solo trip; we won't have to be tour-guides this time (although I do love to see first-timers looks of wonder as they explore the parks/resorts). Thanks again for the thread and I hope that everyone's holidays are happy and stress free.:wizard:

how long are you staying audiodream? we may be crossing paths,we get there on the 2nd,how long are you staying for?

Another single parent of a 7 y/o boy. We will be traveling in May...This will be our first Disney trip alone. :cool1:

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself. Single mom to a 2yr old DD. We'll be taking our first Disney trip soon, but family will be with us, so not solo yet.
