When travelling w/out a partner, what do you do at night that doesnt make you feel awkward? Is it too hard to go to the shows alone? I wouldnt even attempt the clubs.
Im sure DS10 doesnt want me following him to the Lab.

I think you would be fine at the shows or at the clubs!

Barb, I have been following your "adventure" for quite some time now. It seems like you have conceded that hubby may very well not join you on the cruise (all for the better in my opinion), though I have never walked in your shoes (I probably would have kicked him with one).

If you do wind up going solo with your son, make sure you look in the Navigator and attend the singles/parents travelling alone luncheon. I believe it is held on the second day of the cruise. The cruise staff does a wonderful job and making you feel at home and tries to pair up singles with other other singles to hang out with for the cruise. There is also a singles/parents travelling alone cocktail meet in Sessions one evening.

Definitely go to the clubs and shows and enjoy yourself!!!!! Just jump out on the dance floor and join in. My hubby is only a "slow dance" dancer, but I make sure I am out there for whatever song I feel like dancing to. He sits and watch and is happy, I am dancing and happy!!!

I think you and your son will find many wonderful things to enjoy together. To be honest, my daughter spent most of her time with DH and I (she is 9) while her twin sister did like going to the lab.

But at night, there is dinner, the show and then usually a nice family activity (like a deck party or family dance in Studio Sea). There is so much to enjoy. My husband and I only went into one club on one evening for a very short time. We just love the family activities so much!

There are always movies going on too, and you can go in there and enjoy those (one night DH and I did go see Signs while the twins were in the Lab). So check out the movie schedules.

Barb, there is PLENTY for you and your son to do in the evenings!
You will have a blast! I really wish you the best....:p

Barb-

I'll go the the clubs with you if you want. I plan on going by myself. My husband likes to do all the daytime activities, he is up by 6am and goes nonstop but then after dinner, he's done for the night. I'm sure he'll go out with me a couple of nights but I plan on going out every night. I'm turning 40 and not too happy about it and I also lost my sister on Sept 26th so I really plan on drowning my sorrows.....
In any event, I am going to have a good time and never for one minute did I think that I would stand out. Personally, I could care less.
See you there,
Lori

My DH likes to sleep too. He will probably go out a couple of nights, but he wouldn't mind being in bed by 10:00 p.m. most nights, plus, he gets all stressed if the kids don't get enough sleep, so he would rather get them to the room ASAP.
So... maybe it will be the three of us out looking for trouble! haha

Take all your friends from the dis out for drinks. Enjoy yourself!!!
Being a single parent myself, there are times I love to just go by myself. Watch a movie or find a quiet chair to catch up on some reading. I hope you have a wonderful trip no matter what.
After all this planning you sure do deserve it.

Hi Barb. I am a single parent and travel with my DS9 everywhere. He came with me to the shows but going solo would have been of no concern. After the show, we would proceed to the Lab where he would have an absolute blast. I went to the clubs and didn't feel "out of place" by any means. You and your son also have the option of a movie should you so desire. Don't worry about what others MIGHT think. Those people who are spending their time judging you are of no consequence to themselves, much less to you. It's your cruise with your son. Enjoy.

Barb, I am a single mom who went on the 4 day with my son, 10 at the time. While he was in the lab, I went to Bingo, a movie, shopping on the ship or just read a book on deck. When we were together, we would play ping pong, go to Quartermasters (yes, I even tried to play the video games with him), take in a show or just walk around the ship. He wouldn't dance with me at the Sailaway or Nassau night partys so I went on the dance floor by myself and you know what...no one even noticed!! We had a great time, together or apart. It appears you have made some friends on this board who will be on your trip, so go with them and have a great time. You deserve it (and so does your son).

i met a woman 2 years ago (at typhoon lagoon while our kids were taking the surfing class)....
she's a total disneyholic like me, whereas her husband is a disneyphobe....hates all things disney...
years ago she stopped taking him with her on the annual trip to WDW with her daughter...
she said it's far far more enjoyable without him along constantly making snide remarks....
when i met her she'd just been on the disney cruise with her daughter and said she'd had the greatest time ever, just the 2 of them, and that they couldn't wait to go again the following year...

as has already been said, you can go with your son to the big evening shows as well as the evening family shows (including some fun contestant type shows)....
and as everyone has said, you can dance at the sail away parties and in the adult clubs without a partner....on our cruise, very few men danced at all....

Lori - Im very sorry to hear about your sister

Thanks everyone - these replies are very positive. Im gonna have a great time no matter what the outcome!

Im more concerned about what Id do when DS goes to the Lab. He's looked over his (10-12) navigator's and there is alot for him most evenings until 10-11pm. Im usually sleeping by 9pm but up at 6am. On my NCL cruise I was falling asleep during the show but if DS is up having fun I cant very well go to sleep.

There's been times when Im with someone who doesnt want to dance that I think boy I wish I was out there for this song - but I never go out on the dance floor alone.
I was up on the top deck following the line though - and Im planning on doing the same w/Mickey!

11/30 girls night(s) out! Looking forward even more to meeting everyone

Barb, if you check with others who have been responding, I believe you can oftentimes find a CM to dance with you...

Barb, there are always tons of women dancing in groups at night in the clubs. Just join in, trust me, it's like a big party and the more the merrier. :)

While my 3 yr dd was in her club, I did go and do the adult things at the adult clubs. I did not feel out of place being by myself and I wasn't the only single person going out by myself. I went to a Disney trival event and I was matched up with another lady who was by herself.
