Since we have a rental car, is driving and parking a bad idea?

We are staying a little further away than walking distance (Comfort Inn Maingate) and we will have a rental car. Looking at prices, it cheaper for us to park at DLR, than it is to use ART. Is parking decent, or am I out of my mind for driving there?

I've never had a rental car while visiting DLR ~ well we did last July for our 1 day (2 night) visit but the car stayed parked @ HoJo's ~ when we stayed at the place you're staying at we used ART, perhaps you could drive one day and if you don't like it use ART ~ I'm pretty sure kids ride ART free.

It says adults (10+) are $4, and kids are $1 for a 1 day pass. For my family, that would add up to $14...the same price as parking at DLR. I guess I'm more concerned about convenience too. Are the handicapped parking spaces quite far from the gate? Do they require a shuttle too?
Thanks so much for the input. I'm still thinking it all over!

The handicapped spaces are in the same parking structure, so yes, you'd still have to take the tram to the gate. The tram is equipped to handle it though (if you'll have a wheel chair or something of that nature). You didn't mention when you are leaving? If it is an off-season time, I am beginning to think I'd just advise you to drive and park.

You shouldn't have any trouble parking as long as you get to the park early - which you'll want to anyway to ride the most rides.

Wheelchairs can go on the tram from the parking lot or a special van they have. The handicapped parking to me makes no sense - can actually be a further walk than non-handicapped depending on the space you get!
