everyone is so secretive about this DVC ressie number
Like myself, what is a person to do if they have rented points?

DO i not have a right to call and talk to someone at reservations cause im not an "exclusive" member (yet at least)

This morning i called this sacred 800 number to do just that..After all if it is MY reservation NOW why cant i call them to request/change something?

WIth all the money we all pay, especially those in DVC why in the world is this place not open weekends for simple customer service.

Im left hanging now that the weekend has finally come where i can relax and plan out my trip and i cant even do that

they arent exactly winning me over in my decision to join this.....

BTW If i get the login from my parents for the DVC can I see my reservation.....Or is this sacred to DVC members only too

sorry just venting

Member Services probably could be open on the weekends, but we would be paying for those salaries and administrative services and our dues would increase substantially. I think it is worth it to do a little planning and make your phone calls during the week. Of course, if you are not an owner and don't pay the dues, this would not matter to you.

Not only, that, if you are renting points and you are not the owner of this membership, you won't be able to change a cotton picken thing about this ressie anyway, including something as minor as trash and towel day.

Members pay for this service, it is suppose to be for members, there is another number you can call if not a member, sorry I do not know what it is. Open 5 days a week is enough to pay for as it is. DVC was never meant to be for people who rent points or rent them out. To be quite frank with you I would like to see DVC prevent renters from renting but I think that can not be done. A lot of items are missing from the units and have to be replaced, it has often been thought that the things that fly away somehow are taken by renters. The cost of renting points is way too low and should be closer to the actual cash price of the unit. I am sorry to ramble on but DVC was suppose to be for members only and their guests not outsiders.

not to have member services open on the w/e.

As far as not having access to the number, I'd guess that it's b\c it's "MEMBER Services", but I'm not sure.

I'd suggest you go ahead and enjoy planning all of the other aspects of your trip this w/e anyways. You can get answers to almost any question you have on these boards, so that should help.

Don't let this get you down. You could also call CRO for some of your questions. They will not have access to your ressie at DVC made on points, though.

BTW If i get the login from my parents for the DVC can I see my reservation.....Or is this sacred to DVC members only too

Online reservations are not currently available to members. They are supposed to be working on upgrading the site. My bet is even if it was available, you would not be able to view it through your parents ID since it wasn't their reservation.

It would be nice if they were open on weekends but I'm not interested in higher dues for it.

The non-member number is 407-566-3800.

It sounds like you have more problems with the person you rented from than from DVC or you didn't do your homework about renting in the first place and didn't understand what you were getting into.

Pardon my opinion but it sounds like not a lot of communication took place between you and the person you rented from, which is causing confusion.

It is also my opinion that many newer people are renting points that don't understand the system and a lot of confusion has ensued.

Actually, it isn't your reservation. As far as MS/DVC is concerned, the owner still has complete control over that reservation and always will.

You and the owner have agreed to a private transaction - MS & DVC have nothing to do with it. If something goes wrong with the reservation (and I'm sure that it won't), your only recourse is with the person you rented from. You have no recourse from Disney or DVC.

All that said, I know it is frustrating - it takes a lot of trust and patience to rent points. That's the trade off for the ability to save $$ and stay in a DVC room.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Best wishes -

we arent really even renting...Its my parents that are the DVC people and just "Gave us" the points to use no charge...How nice of them....

thanks for the input though...

So anyone who has actually rented from a complete stranger doesnt really get to do anythnig with the ressie huh...ouch

least we can just ask them to call ..I was just thinking of saving dad the headache of me asking to call to change this/change that/ request this /request that....

Requests are not guarantees, the more you make the less chance you will get what you really wish.

If your parents would like to give you control I think they can designate you as being able to talk to MS. However, only the member can make a change in anything that requires a change in points, i.e., dates, accomodations, etc.

The salary and benefits for the people who work at MS are paid for in our membership dues. In a normal transaction, a member makes their reservation and arranges for requests, etc. If they are going to do this and then rent to someone who is also going to call and go through the transaction again, DVC members will have to pay for twice the staff to cover what is actually the same number of reservations.

Someone who rents from a DVC member (or receives it as a gift) should think of it as renting someone's vacation home. You deal with the member/owner -- you don't need to deal with Disney/DVC directly.

MS has actually been quite lenient and does confirm that a reservation has been made when someone calls. MS is open only on weekdays (and not some holidays) from 9:00-5:00 Eastern time and I think it's until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. MS's phone number is (407) 566-3800. If your parents would like, they can share the 800# with you.

Rarely do I flame anyone on these boards but hang on for a minute.

You've got to be kidding? Your parents gave you points for a free trip and you have the nerve to complain about not being able to plan your trip because you can't reach someone on a Saturday morning? You can't plan your trip for what reason? You don't trust the people who just gave you the free trip? Plan your trip, stop griping and be thankful for what you are getting.

Yep. Your parents are very nice. What a wonderful gift.

Assuming your Dad/Mom would be willing to trust you with their member number, you can call and make changes. I have done this with my daughter for a trip she made with her cousins. (And Heaven help her if she did/does anything "unauthorized" with my points, LOL)!

Wouldn't do that for anyone else, though. My points are more precious to me than cold hard cash! Go figure!

Best wishes -

P.S. Renting from a stranger is a lesson in trust - on both sides.

1) It is not a sacred or secret telephone line.
2) But, please remember that the line is for member's service.
3) You are renting or using member points.
4) Your transaction is with the member, NOT with DVC.
5) The member should show you the ressie in your name.
6) All questions should then be directed toward the member.

While MS will occasionally talk to renters to confirm the reservation, they are not officially supposed to do even that. As noted, you could ask your parents to put you on as an associate or you could ask them to call or email. If you have enough info, you could email yourself with your requests and you could do that this weekend. It would likely be handled on Monday or Tuesday.

But I agree with the rest of the sentiment on this thread, that your expectations are off.

You need to go to the member you have rented the points from for any and all info. regarding your ressie.

DO i not have a right to call and talk to someone at reservations cause im not an "exclusive" member (yet at least)

That's correct.

This morning i called this sacred 800 number to do just that..After all if it is MY reservation NOW why cant i call them to request/change something?

Because TECHNICALLY it still is NOT your reservation - it is the members reservation BUT made for you. Only the member can make any and all requests or changes for you. Even if you have gotten the phone # to call yourself, MS will not be able to do anything. They'll simply tell you to have the member call them to add or change anything.

WIth all the money we all pay, especially those in DVC why in the world is this place not open weekends for simple customer service.

As mentioned, because we the members would have to pay the cost of MS being open on wknds through higher dues.

Im left hanging now that the weekend has finally come where i can relax and plan out my trip and i cant even do that

Unfortuneatly, this is one of the things you have to deal with to rent points rather than book directly through Disney. The trade off however, I'm sure you'll find is well worth it in the $$$ you save to stay in a DVC resort for signifacantly less than if you had booked thru CRO.

they arent exactly winning me over in my decision to join this.....

Maybe not, but you need to remember and consider the fact that if YOU were the member, YOU would be in control of the reservation. You WOULD be able to be the one to call and get info. for yourself and make any requests and changes and what have you. It's much different to be the member who has the control to do these things than to be renting from a member and not be able to. But again, in the end you'll probably feel it was well worth the trouble for the $$$ you'll save for the type accommodations you'll receive being that you are in this case the renter.

BTW If i get the login from my parents for the DVC can I see my reservation.....Or is this sacred to DVC members only too

It's suppossed to be - but if you get their log-in, there's nothing to prevent you from being able to get into the members only site. They are not yet doing online ressies though so the info. you're looking for won't be available anyway.

sorry just venting

Don't be sorry - I'm sure it must be frustrating, but as previously mentioned, I don't think you fully realized how things work when you rent. Maybe now after all these posts though, it will have helped you and others renting or considering renting to understand better. I agree that people not unlike yourself don't fully understand these things until after the fact as well as newer members renting may not realize these things to communicate them to their renters. Just try and enjoy your weekend and consider the member you are renting from your reservation agent. Go to them the way you would have gone to MS (I'm guessing this is your parents you are renting from?) and give them your requests or changes for them to handle come Monday. Try not to worry and have a wonderful trip. It will all be worth it in the end;) ::yes::

:badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

So much for my post lol - see what happens when your computer acts up and it slower than a snail:rolleyes:

10 or more posts already covered it before mine even went through

:badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

Have a good wknd everybody:crazy:

When renting points we go over everything with the people that are renting like dates and type of room and room cleaning etc so we can make any requests when making the reservation. Just makes things go a little smoother that way. We always include the 800# with the paperwork we send to the renter so they can call to confirm the reservation some people do not feel comfortable unless they can call to make sure they have a reservation and rightly so it can be quite a good chunk of cash they are spending. Just call them Monday make a list of the things you want to request etc and double check it with your spouse or whatever then have your parents call on Monday to request them it really is that easy.

Because this renter was not getting her way i have to say after reading this post i was shock and felt i was being attacked by the op for being a dvc member and "threats"
because of this she may not become a dvc member, dont worry dear we will all sleep tonight.

thank you for your post but i suggest you should focus on your complaints to your parents for they are the "DVC Members" that offered you a free vacation, that should have been your first call.....

::yes::

chill out everyone...i was just venting....
something like a person just wanting to vent gettin ya all uptight
relax

it was my first and they are willing to call ...
Guess im just used to calling CRO anytime i want without worrying about it being closed...Oh ya ...I dont have to pay their salary and they are open when i need them

excuse me if im not a DVC expert and offended those who felt threatened by my vent...

i wasnt trying to get you to not sleep tonight.....nor do i care if u do or not

As mentioned, your parents can name you as an Associate on their membership. Then you can call and make your own ressies etc. Dw and I have 2 DD's and they are both named on our membership as associates. Our agreement with them is that they discuss with us first so we can advise them of our point status etc. Then they call and make their own ressie requests. It's worked for 6 years for us.
