Simple Thing a Cast Member Did...

we went to disney for my 22nd birthday and we had went to the world of disney store and we were standing there watching BBB cuz it so cute and i was wearing a birthday button and the cm standing at the reservation place saw it and went do you want some pixie dust princess and i shrugged and said sure my hair was covered with it for 2 days :earsboy::bday:

Last June we went to get our very first ever Dole Whip in the MK. We were not on a DDP so I just had a $5 bill in my hand. It was hot hot hot and I probably looked exhausted. I asked for a cup of ice water, a Dole Whip, and 3 spoons. I was still attempting to maintain a diet (yeah, abandoned that ship after about 2 more days......) and DH & DD had agreed they would split a quick snack.

Next thing I knew the CM had taken my money, given me my change - and handed DD and myself 3 enormous Dole Whips! I kind of stammered "no-no-I only paid for 1" thinking he had given me someone else's order since the counter was mobbed. The CM smiled, said "I know", and moved on to the next customer.

Brilliant marketing, of course. Did I tell everyone back home about the $$$$ the trip cost? No, of course not. I told everyone about the random pixie dusting of free ice cream. A simple thing that made our day special AND produced goodwill for the company.

And yes, that meant I had a whole Dole Whip to myself. And I ate every bite. Diet? What diet?

We were on our way to Chef Mickey early one morning and when we got off the bus at the Magic Kingdom I asked the bus driver if she could point us in the direction of the monorail. She asked if we were going to Chef Mickey and when I said yes, she told us to get back on the bus because she would drive us over. She most certainly did not have to do that, but it so very nice of her.

I just finished reading all 14 pages! I love reading these stories! SO much fun! I hope my kids get to experience some kind of magic while they are enjoying their first visit to WDW! (And maybe my DH too, as he has never been, and isn't really looking forward to it...hoping to convert him!) Keep 'em coming!! :yay:

Last year we went to WDW and it was our sons birthday trip. He of course had on his birthday pin. While we were in Germany (Epcot), the nicest young man (who worked in the toy store) came up and asked if he could sing Happy Birthday to him in German. Of course we said yes. It was an amazing experience and we loved every minute of it.

My son thought it was cool that the King of Germany would want to wish him a Happy Birthday.

Wow I cant tell you how much I needed to read this thread. This yr has been horrible for my family. We have had three deaths including my first ex husband, my DS17 dad, ver ugly battles in court over probate, and early this week my home was hit by lightning, we lost our AC, two brand new tvs blu ray player and more. Ive spent most of the week with my nerves on end, feeling sorry for myself. This thread made me cry, smile, and remember that I have an amazing trip to look forward to! Thank you everyone who contributed. WDW has such a special place in my heart, we are blessed to have been able to go many times..

Every trip, we've had some Disney magic or other occur. Last trip, we were staying at POR. One night while leaving the MK, the line for our bus was mobbed. There were 3 people in the POFQ line. I knew the two resorts were connected, so I convinced my crew to hop to the POFQ bus. When we arrived at POFQ, I went to ask the concierge guy where to find the walking path, explaining that we were staying at POR. He immediately called for a golf cart to give us a ride, saying he absolutely couldn't have us walking the path by the water at night for fear of snakes or alligators. Actually, that was one of the factors that contributed to us staying at POFQ this time around.

I several from our 1st trip with our boys back in 2005, when they were 3 and 5.

1. On the way back to Fort Wilderness, DS3 was tired and started to have a melt down. As we were pulling into the bus stop, the CM had him say "Mickey Mouse", as he said it the bus driver turned the lights on in the bus. This put an immediate smile on DS' face and stopped the melt down.

2. DS5 was obsessed with vacumns at the time, so you can imagine he reaction to the big ones they clean the streets with after the parades. We asked the CM sweeping if we could take his picuture with her. She was so surpised because no one ever wants to take a picture with her. She ended up letting DS help her vacumn part of the way around the hub.

3. On the jungle cruise both boys had those wooden toy guns that you can buy, the CM got them involved in the story by having them protect the boat from the alligators and head hunters.

A couple more little things from our recent (may 2011) trip. DD5 had to dress as her favorite princess, Aurora on our only full day in MK. And of course the first thing we had to do upon entering the front gate was go to the right and see the princeses. The way that Princess Aurora fawned over DD in her dress brought tears to my eyes.
Same day - practically every CM that we encountered on that day greeted DD with "Good morning Princess." "Good afternoon Princess." Just made her feel really special and made us start thinking about our next trip to the World.

Back in 2007 I took my 7 year old goddaughter on her first trip to Disney as her Christmas present that year. She was completely enamoured with the place, and loved all the CMs who called her princess, gave her stickers and buttons and she had a blast. My goddaughter's mom came along with us on this "girls only" trip and she had also never been before.

On the fourth night of our trip we spent the day at Epcot, and as we were walking into the Coral Reef for dinner, my goddaughter asked to look at her autograph book to see all the new ones she got throughout the World Showcase. We started digging through the bags and we couldn't find it anywhere...cue immedately kid breakdown. After determining it was certainly not in any of our bags, her mom sets out to the living seas where we had just rode Nemo and I take a teary eyed and very upset kid to check in for our ADR. We are seated and our waitress comes over and notices one member of our party is missing and there is a very sad kid at the table. I explained the situation just as my GD's mom returned still with the book missing. The waitress(Keri) tells us to check lost and found and takes our drink orders. When she returns with the drinks she asks what the book looked like and then asked if her name was written in it. We describe it and tell her the name and she says, "just in case it gets turned in here, I'll know what it looks like." We order our food and settle in trying our best to cheer the kid up with the promise of a giftshop visit.

Right before our food comes to the table, Keri returns and kneels next to my Goddaughter and says, "I know it's not the one you lost but now you can have fun getting everyone's autographs again," and pulls out the exact kind of autograph book that was lost from behind her back. Not only did she get her a new book, but filled in her name and had everyone in the kitchen sign the back page for her. Tears immediately turned into one of the biggest smiles that has ever graced that kid's face. It was above and beyond and a true reminder of what Disney magic is all about.:)

I've read through this whole thread, and it's just AMAZING. I love these stories. Thanks everyone for sharing!!!

This thread is amazing with all the wonderful stories that the CMs did for guests! I've been to WDW twice, but I have yet to encounter these pixie dusts moments but I know that should the situation occurs, the CMs will be there for me & have my back! It's stories like these that makes me want to go back every chance I get!
Now I can't wait for the planned Jan-Feb 2012 trip! :D

Here's another.. wasn't pixie dust for me, but for the guest in front of me.. DD and I were in line "first" to meet Snow White in Germany, following her short break. While she was on break, a woman with a special needs child came up and got in line behind us. We were all chatting with the cast member, and she pulled the mom aside for a min. When they returned, the cast member asked if I minded if they got in front of me. Of course it wasn't an issue..but man do I wish I would have just left the line and come back later. It turns out that the girl was very seriously ill, this was her make a wish trip, and all the little girl wanted to do was meet snow white. When Snow White returned from her break, the CM quickly approached her, whispered in her ear..and then the magic.. Snow White started twirling around in her skirt saying she had just heard about her friend coming to visit her, and called the girl by name. The little girls eyes lit up..Snow white took the wheel chair and started walking around the area with her, took her to the "wishing well" to make a wish, and the little girl was just smiling from ear to ear. I was now sobbing at this point. Not sniffling..full fledge sobbing.. I had to turn away to the back of the line, and there was not a dry eye to be found. DD kept asking why everyone was crying, and I couldn't even get the words out of my mouth.

When people ask me why I go back to Disney so often, I can't help but say "why wouldn't I".:cloud9:

Oh dear God! They'd have been mopping me up off the floor if I had been standing there for that.:sad1:

I can remember my own! When I was about 4 or 5, we went to The Magic Kingdom for a day during our trip, and all I wanted to do was see Ariel. After waiting in line, I was finally able to meet her, and I sat with her for a good 10 minutes, Ariel saying how our hair was the same color (My hair back then was a deep cherry wood red) and how we looked like twins, we kept chatting and I remember her listening so intently to what I was saying. It made the trip for me!

Also, a few years ago, we were waiting for IllumiNations when we befriended a custodial CM. He was such a nice man! He told he would be right back, and when he arrived he brought us special glasses that made all of the fireworks look like Mickey heads. He then sent us to another CM who let us into the special viewing area! Best IllumiNations ever!

2 that I recall:

1. Many years ago we were at a parade in the MK. It was one where the characters would come down off the flots and real interact with the guests. Across th estreet from where we were was a little girl...probably about 8 years old...in a wheelchair. Well wlong comes Prince Charming, who climbs down off th float and goes over to her and proceeds to dance with her in her wheelchair, twirling her and such. The little girl was beyond thrilled. I bawled like a baby watching it.

2. A few years back we were down there. We had Annual Passes that were expiring that day and we had one more full day left there before our flight home. It was no problem for us at first...we figured we'd do DTD, the monorail resort tour, maybe some mini-golf, a nice dinner in one of the restaurants, watch the EWP from one of the beaches. Then a friend of mine who lives down there called and said she and her hubby could come the next day and spend the day with us in the parks. So we went to a Guest Services window at Epcot to see if there was a way to add one more day to our anual passes. We told the CM our dilemma. He clicked away on the computer and gav us 2 one park/one day passes!

One more that just came to mind for me. On our most recent trip (May 2011) we arrived in the World on Sunday afternoon and decided to hear over to MK for dinner and maybe catch the fireworks. We ate at Cosmic Ray's, rode Dumbo and found ourselves behind the castle near Pooh when the fireworks started. There was a CM there who apparently knew the show really well from that perspective because he went out of his way directing all the gueasts around him on where to look for the next set of fireworks. The whole time, he had a baton or something in his hand as if he were directing the fireworks show. It was amazing actually.

I was @ WDW a few years ago during Epcot's 25th annivesary. I happened to take the KTTK tour that morning, and had a wonderful tour guide named Matthew. He was so sweet, funny, and entertaining. I peppered him with questions, and was a little worried I was overdoing it (didn't want to be annoying!)

After the tour was over, he asked my friend and me to stay for a minute after everyone else left. He told me how much he enjoyed having me on his tour, and gave me his "cast members only" Epcot anniversary pin! It was so sweet, especially since I realized it was something the general public couldn't buy at a gift shop.
