Simple, Superb, and Sublime…6 Days of Deluxe Dining UPDATED:THE WAVE LUNCH

Your Chocolate-Raspberry Shake from Le Cellier looked totally delicious! :yay: We felt the same way about Le Cellier when we ate there in June 2008. It was good, DH liked it more than I did, and we will probably go back a some point. However, there are many other places we would chose to dine first.

I feel eating at California Grill is fun and special! We had a marvelous time there with all of you, especially my lovely and endearing niece who sat next to me. She and I had so much fun gazing at the castle and guessing what color it would turn next!

Le Cellier: I've eaten there many times, but I haven't eaten there since the dining plan went into overdrive. I've always enjoyed the cheddar cheese soup. :)

V&A: Yum! I want to do Chef's Table again. :) And the reason I didn't choose the dessert you had was due to the fact that I love the chocolate soufflé so much. I had to get the big honkin' version. :lovestruc

California Grill: Looks similar to items I ate. I split the sushi and flatbreads, but had soup and that goat cheese ravioli. Yum. I thought the rest of your meal looked fabulous, too.

I'll be one happy woman if that sea bass is on the menu at CG when I'm there in October.....looks amazing!:thumbsup2

Good to hear that you enjoyed California Grill! The reviews here tend to be a bit mixed, but we have had three wonderful meals there so far and I am looking forward to a return trip, whenever I might be at WDW again!

We had a 5:30 pm this year and really enjoyed arriving in an empty restaurant that is filled with sunlight. I do agree that getting an early ADR is advisable for this restaurant.

May I ask how you got to go on a tour of the BWI?

Certainly! There is a little back story...originally we planned to do a split stay at the GF and BWI. Dates needed changing, and Dh's work schedule caused us to cut a few nights off of our trip, so after much rearranging and discussion we decided on the WL (which we completely adored).

Yet, there was a nagging in my head about "what if..." Seems like BWI gets mixed reviews too, some love and some hate it. We just walked down there from Epcot to explore the lobby and Boardwalk itself to see if we liked the vibe for a possible future stay. It was odd because it was totally deserted (yes, this was in January, so we chalked it up to that). Dh suggested we walk in and ask to tour a refurbished deluxe club level room because that was the type we had orginally booked. I was a little doubtful since I had never heard of anyone doing that on the Dis boards, but we have done it in other hotels all over. We just walked up to the main concierge desk and asked, and they obliged. :thumbsup2 A very nice woman showed us around, we saw the room and the club lounge as well.

Our brief assesment was this: the room is really lovely and very spacious, hallways felt weird...there was an uncomfortable vibe to our liking. It felt a little old and tired to us, then "made over." It was a long hike to get to the rooms, and the club level area was nice, but again, something felt off to us. Anyway, I am SO glad we did this because now we know this just is not the resort for us! We stayed in a suite at WL, so a direct comparison isn't fair to the deluxe room at BWI, but again, the room was great, something just felt off about the whole place. We loved nearly everything about the WL, and also loved the GF when we visited there (and we DO want to stay there on a future visit).

I agree too that California Grill is lovely before the sun sets! :goodvibes

ME TOO! Since you are going before me please ask the chef to make sure he saves some for Nicki, she will be there right behind ya :lmao:

Now after all of these pictures, I want Cali Grill in the worst way! Everything looked so good! Thanks for sharing!

V&A desserts look simply wonderful! I'm happy you both had such an excellent experience! :goodvibes

Hiya! Just wanted to say I'm here and really looking forward to reading. I'm in the midst of planning ADRs for June! Thanks for the link :thumbsup2

ETA: I'm back:
I wish Disney would overhaul their children’s menu choices. We found Disney’s children’s meals to be pretty abysmal…in particular, in the Signature restaurants the kids meals were usually the same one would find at a very casual, even fast food type of place. With such talented chefs at Disney, and in environments which are fostering innovative, regional cuisine, come on, offer some kids meals with some variety, high quality ingredients, and good taste. Others have noted this as well. I was pretty shocked by some of the offerings…nutrition, variety, and whole foods aside, many simply tasted mediocre or just plain bad.

::yes:: :worship:

Okay, stepping off my own soapbox and going back to read more... ;)

Pausing in my reading for a few comments...

Raglan Road
Our first impressions of the restaurant left us both commenting how fun and raucous an atmosphere could be fostered in the evening—it was fairly quiet then.
Oooo, this is good to know! I've been at night - you're spot-on; it's a super raucous, fun place to be! :thumbsup2 But I really enjoy the food and have been wanting to return with Gramma and Leo - they like quiet. ::yes::

Incidentally, the hotel was stunning, and I enjoyed many of the Arts and Crafts and Prairie School details…one of my professional areas of expertise is in modern design reform (19th and 20th century early modern design movements such as the Aesthetic movement and Arts and Crafts…). The mix of rustic with this in the hotel is a bit funny at times, but I guess it is like a doctor watching ER and saying…”that could never happen.”
:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: I'm sure it's no surprise at all that I've made virtually the same comment - all over WDW! ;)

Our Signature Plate - Cedar Plank Roasted Pacific King Salmon with roasted potatoes, brussels sprouts, smoked pork belly, and honey-truffle brown butter.

Seared Jumbo Day Boat Scallops with mushroom risotto, wild mushrooms, and truffle sauce.

A Selection of Artisan Cheeses
And with that, you guys ordered my three favorite items at AP! I'm so glad they lived up to expectations :)

IMG_8260.jpg
WOWSA!!! That was not what I was expecting - this looks terriff!

Well…unfortunately, I have to say we were very disappointed with the cinnamon roll. I was so sad. It was just average, not very warm, not very gooey, not very flavorful. I remain hopeful that we got a “bad batch,” or perhaps one that sat a bit too long under the lights.
Oh no! :sad2: I promise - I've had some truly delicious, over-the-top cinnamon rolls there; try again next time!

I know...I would have been perfectly happy with a larger version of the souffle only! :thumbsup2

Yes, everyone should go and order the sea bass! :rotfl:

Hi Joie. Wonderful food porn.
Non-food-related question:
You toured a deluxe club level at BWI, but you occupied a suite last trip-- was there something about the suite that was unsatisfactory? With only one small DD, did you decide the space wasn't worth the money? I ask as DH and I had a villa at OKW last trip, and we're booked at a suite at the GF in December. We MUST have an extra bedroom for my nurse (due to a rare neuromuscular disease, I'm quadriplegic and IV feed-med/vent-dependent), but the full kitchen in a villa is unneeded, as DH and my nurse are unlikely to cook when Boma breakfast and CG dinner are calling.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ha!....I knew you of all people would understand my comment about the mixture of styles! ;) I thought I was actually quite well-behaved...I didn't make one single comment to my family about the historical inaccuracies and pastiche of styles going on inside Cinderella's Castle, no comments about the misuse of heraldry, etc...--very restrained of me.

The "healthy option" at CRT really was good! :thumbsup2

We will try the cinnamon roll again, I promise. :goodvibes

Thanks for reading, V!

Oh, no! My intention is not to scare anyone away...:guilty: It is a very special place, and so worth a visit if you enjoy food at all.

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Our 8:05 ADR was another good opportunity to enter the parks early and we had to hustle a little to make it through the park to Tusker House. One thing we noticed here was how much more controlled and strict the CMs were about people being in the park early. This was the only park where our names were checked prior to being allowed to enter. There were CMs dotting the trail to get to the restaurant, saying good morning, directing people, but also making sure no one strayed. It was nice, and fine, but interesting given how relaxed and deserted it seemed at MK and Epcot.

When we arrived to Tusker House it was pretty hectic…we checked in and were told to stand on the side and wait for our photograph, not photopass, one of those that they offer to sell you during your meal. (Funnily enough, we never saw any of our photos!).

We waited around 15 minutes total and were brought inside. The interior is very large, with what appeared to be two large seating areas, and the central, themed, food area. It was VERY busy already, and only about 8:20am. The five of us were seated (sis and her DH joined us this meal) and our server came up to say hello. Most of us ordered the special juice (orange, guava, and passion fruit I believe). I don’t recall much about our server—I think she was good, but pretty busy. We did also ask for the check right away (another good idea!). I urged DH up to get food hoping he could get started while I waited with DD in case the characters came. It took quite awhile, and during this time when just DD and I were waiting, DD spilled her juice all over the table. No big deal, but the busy server didn’t come by for some time again and I was trying to mop up the mess with the few napkins we had.

When my tablemates returned I got up to fill a plate for myself and DD (though, DH had of course gotten some things for her as well). The lines were quite long for food, and the way it was set up kept causing people to cut in the middle of lines…it was a little crazy. It took me an equally long time to fill a plate. There was one central island with treats, doughnuts, bread pudding, etc…The side lines included fresh fruit, cold cereals, pastries and breakfast breads, then kids selections (scrambled eggs, mickey waffles, etc…). The other side included carved ham, potatoes, various quiche and casseroles, other salads.

The characters were edging closer by the time I sat down and I do have to say, eating felt rushed because I needed to be ready with my camera. The thing I liked best was actually a Mickey waffle—it was great. The pastries were just okay, fruit was fresh and ripe. The banana bread pudding was fabulous, infused with cinnamon and served with a rich creme anglaise sauce. I was told the ham was excellent! I did not try it because ham is often glazed with mustard. The potatoes would have been terrific if they were a bit more crisp. They had some nice spices on them. The quiche was horrible, tasted bland and bad at the same time…bacon not so good, not so crispy. But, all in all, we plan to return. Dh said the chocolate glazed Krispy Kreme type doughnut was disappointing and dry--I had grabbed a plain glazed one and thought the bite I tried was yummy, so handed mine over to him. He said it was much better.

There were plenty of good options and it was a fun experience! I confess, all these pictures are DSis and her DH's plates...somehow I forgot pictures of the food. I think I was too focused on the character photos. :confused3 I don't think they tried the ham, yams, potatoes, or bread pudding (the things Dh and I really liked). Sorry! The yams were very good too...

When the characters began to come to us it was very rushed, and at one point one of them paused right before our table, then another pause. One pause was something random that the character was trying to communicate to a handler, and the other was for the parade. This was a bummer because DD was confused, and actually was asking if they were going to skip her! She was worried, but we assured her they would come back (she did NOT want to participate in the cute parade, and to be fair it was a little overwhelming). Mickey and Daisy seemed to take the most time, and good-naturedly allowed lots of photos (DD with them, some with us, some with DSis and her DH). We saw Donald, Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy. :cutie:

IMG_8487-1.jpg

Here is one of DD hugging Daisy! :lovestruc

Once the characters were done, we left pretty quickly. The three of us were headed to meet the guide for the Wildlife Discovery Excursion (which was fantastic!) and all planned to meet up after that. We were out of there by about 9:20.

Tusker House has a boisterous, busy ambience which pairs really well with the excitement over seeing the famous characters—I could see how a tired, cranky group might find the experience overwhelming, but we truly enjoyed the meal.:thumbsup2

Side note: when we left we had a little time to kill and wandered over across from Tusker House after we spotted King Louie and Baloo! There was no line and we had the most memorable and wonderful character interaction with them! DD was completely apprehensive and would not get out of her stroller—we didn’t force her. After the adults took a photopass pic, King Louie and Baloo gently, and humorously approached DD and soon she was laughing and smiling, delighted with them! They were SO sweet and gentle, real pros who knew exactly how to make a little one comfortable and have fun. :flower3: King Louie was kissing her, Baloo was playing peek-a-boo, it was very special. AND, the great photopass photographer took some stealthy shots of all of this, which was off the side, out of line, and completely impromptu. This was a great memory for us all. By the time we left our 15 minute interaction with them, a small line had formed because people began spotting the super fun goings-on. They never rushed us out either, even when the line began to form.pixiedust:
