I am trying to bid for 2 condos and although I really want to stay at OLCC it would cost me an extra $400 or $500 over staying at Silver lake. I am trying to be realistic and realize we wont be spending much time in the rooms anyway, but do you think OLCC is worth the extra dollars.

I have never been to silver lake but have been to OLCC and it is very nice. The pool and kids area is well done and the rooms were nice and clean. I guess it depends on how long you plan to use the room and the amenities.

We have stayed at both. Silver Lake was great alot smaller scale than OLCC. But it was very enjoyable, lots to do. We stayed at Orange Lake twice the first time was great we were a few paces from main pool and club house, etc. Second time was awful we were so far from the pools we would have to drive to get to them. Make sure if you stay there you are close to a main pool. OLCC is a huge resort. My DS got her foot massively bitten by fire ants

We have stayed at both...for that much savings I would do SLAKE with no second thought..Ted

Thanks everyone. I think I will give Silver Lake a try.

Could someone please tell me how far of a drive Orange Lakes is to the Main Gate? Is it a pretty straight ride? My husband's friend owns time there and has built up so many weeks he needs to use them or loose them. He gave us the week just for the price of what it would cost to transfer to a new week! :) I think something like $500 for the full week for a 3 bedroom :)
We are going in November and can't wait. Thanks.

OLCC is very close to the parks.....if memory serves it's about 10 minutes. Very easy drive.....something like 2 turns....left out of the resort and turn right onto the World drive ramp, which takes you into Disney World...we loved OLCC...we had a 2BR condo. Very clean, pretty and VERY big! Hope this helps!

You take a left out of the resort, follow US192 down and about 2 or 3 miles down is the exit to World Drive where you make a right. I'd say the time from OLCC property to Disney is 5 minutes, depending on traffic.

Thanks Skinsfan! :) How were the condos themselves? Were they big enough for your family? Did you use any of the activities in Orangle Lakes, luau, western night, kids crafts, etc?

You can also take the back way, wich is lots faster if you're going to AK. On 192, take a left at Black Lake Rd, right before the Chic Fila. Taht runs by Silver Lake and dead ends into Sherbeth Rd. Take a left on Sherbeth, and that runs into Osceola Parkway. At that intersection, you can take a left to go to AK Lodge. Take a right to go everywhere else. If you're going to AK, keep an eye out for a little cutback (no sign - get in the left lane when you tyrn at the intersection sio you don't miss it) that takes you to the parking gate for AK. If you miss that cutback, you have to go to an exit a ways down to turn around.

I stayed there in 10/03 in the East Village (newest part). Very nice! Did not get to do any of the activities, though. They have free movies each day in the theater (in the main building where you check in, downstairs.

Thank you everyone! I've printed out and will show to my husband :)

Condos are big! Big enough for a family of, of which 2 are in college so there's plenty of room. I went to Luau night once and it's fun to do when you get there, but it's nothing all that great. The kids activities and pool activities are lots of fun.

Thanks, I can't wait to go!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We went to the western night and the food was good. Not alot of choice but they had ribs, chicken, corn on the cob and some salads. I think price was in the $14 range.

Kids crafts were enjoyed by our daughter who was 4 at the time. I could see them being enjoyed up to age 7 or 8.

If you have a 3 bedroom, you will have a great unit and likely be in the North Village by Splash Lagoon.

By the way, I have sent you a PM thru the board.

Thanks...

Just an update- After all the deciding Silver lake did not have my dates so I bid and won OLCC. Extra cash but hopefully will be worth it. All this info in between has been usefull. Thanks.

Would you say the North or east village would be best to request with 6 teenagers and a 9 yr old?

If you got your unit thru skyauction, you can request any area but will most likley get the older section of Orange Lake which is called West Villages.

These are single level townhomes that, while older, are in good condition. They are near the main clubhouse and pools.

If you have other questions, please let me know.
