Silver Lake resort?

My husband and I are trying to decide whether or not to redeem an award for a seven night condo room at silver lake resorts. We were worried because several reviews for that resort are kinda bad. We usually stay at very high end places ( last year -wilderness lodge). Because the room will be free we thought we could experience US and IOA this summer without breaking the bank. We usually space our Orlando trips out every couple of years. Another thing we are worried about is going in the summer. Can anyone tell us about this resort?

This thread belongs on the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board and since it doesn't have anything to do with Universal, I'll move it there for more responses.

Our good friends have RCI points at Silver Lake. They go a couple times a year and I have never heard any complaints from them. They love it. And I would consider them a little pickier than most people when it comes to accommodations.

When we went to Disney with them a few years ago, they stayed in their condo and we visited. Our kids slept there and spent more time there and liked the pool and kids activities.

From what we saw of it, it seemed really nice. They had a two bedroom. I was really jealous of the beautiful ensuite with jacuzzi tub off their bedroom. If it wasn't for lucking out and getting FD pins, we probably would have rented points off them to stay there.

Thanks metro!

The reward is for a one bedroom! Does any one have any suggestions about areas that are better than others? I think I remember someone mentioning the 800 building. We were worried since it was a reward room that they might put us in a crummy condo.

We stayed here over Thanksgiving 2012 in a one bedroom. I called ahead of time and requested a building by the back gate. I was accomodated and LOVED the resort. We have stayed at WLV, Bonnet Creek Resort, and several others in the area. I was not disappointed. In fact I like the "close off site" better than on site. You have more room and the pools are much better than the Disney resorts. The only place I really want to try and will stay onsite again is if I am able to exchange into BWV. Have a wonderful trip I don't think you will. be disappointed. Oh and by the way it is so easy to find your way to and from Disney each day as well as to Universal. We did both that trip.

All units were recently refurbed. My wife and I stayed there in November and loved it. In fact, it is now our new favorite. :thumbsup2

Bumping, with some information about Silver Lake. We're checking in there on 2/2.

I called to make a few requests. There will be 9 of us, and I was asking about the bed configuration. I found out that the Friday to Friday RCI weeks, that have 3 bedrooms, all have 3 king beds, and "it's a smaller unit."

We booked one that sleeps 12-not everybody who was originally coming is going to now-and those are also 3-bedroom units. The beds are different, though, there's a king, one bedroom has 2 doubles, and the other has a queen. Those ones, are Saturday to Saturday check ins. And they're supposed to be "a little bigger".

We requested 2 pack and plays, and they will try to honor that. We'll see!

I stayed there a few years ago and liked it.

OP, if you are only doing US/IOA and not WDW, is there not somewhere closer you could stay? SL is kinda out of the way to US IMO.

For those trying to decide if this is a good deal, I was able to get a one bedroom villa at Silver Lake (SilverPoints section) with full kitchen for a little less than $500 for 7 nights. This above deal is for a hotel room with no kitchen.

I booked it thru RCI b/c my MIL is a timeshare owner. I did not book it with points. Just paid for it outright. Maybe others following this thread can offer some ideas of other ways to rent here.
