SIL's House Destroyed!

Well, we were worried about Launda and Tom's home in Florida. And unfortunately, our fears have been realized. Launda's home's entire bottom level is flooded with 3 feet of water. The kitchen, den, laundry room, all the lawn equipment in the shed outside, it's all ruined. The water is polluted with the septic system's contents. The well is polluted too now.

Gabby was going in go down for 2 weeks and stay with her mom to help her mom reorganize her home a bit to make her life a little easier since her health has been failing. Now, Gabby has no place to stay, so that trip is off.

Luckily, Launda's cats and dogs are safe and Launda and Tom are safe. Launda has worked so hard over the course of the last year going back to school and she almost has her degree. I hate to see this throw her off of her path. Tom has health issues which prevent him from doing a whole lot with his life. He makes money, but he changes jobs a lot....long story, let's just say that Launda has the patience of a saint and a heart of gold because a lot of people would have bailed on Tom years ago when his problems started, but she is still honoring those wedding vows. I have a lot of respect for Launda....in case you couldn't tell.

At least they are safe! But a ton of pixie dust is being sent their way to help them deal. I am just heartbroken for all the folks in Florida who are dealing with these horrible storms.

I am so sorry for their loss. It is very hard to watch as things you have worked so hard to purchase are ruined. It is great news that they are okay, I am just sorry to hear about their home and their belongings.

Unfortunately, their insurance on the house doesn't cover the damage. To make matters worse, Volusia county has yet to be declared a Federal Disaster Area. So, there is no assistance available to them at all. They have no home, Launda's new truck was also destroyed. Tom's car is stuck in the driveway and died.

Becca, Gabby's other sister, had her car become stuck in the driveway also. So, if there is any sort of emergency at Gabby's mom's house, there is no way to get help.

Gabby's mom and Launda live in the major deep woods boonies. The fire department would have a devil of a time getting out there. The police might be able to get there, but.....

Basically, it's just a huge mess. Maggie

BTW.....thanks for the prayers and pixie dust. There are lots of folks in Florida suffering right along with Launda and Tom. Florida is in a world of hurt. It will be a long time before it's all returned back to normal. Maggie

I was just reading posts in another group I belong to and one of them had family that posted saying they lost their home. They lived in the boat with the blue hull that was destroyed that they show on tv. They were asking for good thoughts and prayers for them. My prayers are with everyone down there.

I'm so very sorry. I see the pictures from the hurricanes and I just can't imagine going through that. We were hit by Andrew when I was a kid, but the worse we had was loss power for a few days.

A lot of media were stationed in Volusia County and they looked like they took the brunt of the storm. Maybe the County will be declared a disaster area soon so Launda and Tom can get some assistance. P & PD sent.
