Silly yellow tag question

Yea! Received our booklet with the yellow tags! There are four in our family going and there are four yellow tags. Just making sure, each guest gets two tags.....So I separate the tag in the center making 2 tags? Haven't done this since 07 :confused3 I know this is a silly question but I don't remember separating the tags the last time:sad2:

Each passenger only gets one tag automatically now. You can call and request more (I did that a couple of weeks ago, and got the tags a few days later).

You can definitely separate them... I did it last time (last two times) and we had no problems. :)

If the suitcase handle is fat you may find that the half tag won't wrap around and still stick together with the bar code and destination information exposed.

We are seeing more and more people reporting that the luggage tags actually give instructions as to how to get two tags out of the one tag.
That was not my experience in Dec and it wasn't my dd's experience last month. BUT...that is not to say tags haven't changed.

I would really like it if someone who has the tags with the instructions on how to separate the tags into two tags, would post a photo of these instructions. It would be very helpful to people asking what to do.

Mine did not have instructions... I did it with a scissor and wrote any info that was missing with a sharpie!

I have a tag from 2009 that says the exact same thing as people are reporting that they say now, but back then the tags actually did come attached to each other. They separate them now before they send them, since they no longer send 2 per person. They just haven't changed the wording to reflect the change.

The key is that they say to separate then at the center perforation - there is no perforation across the middle of the tag, but the tags used to come in sets of 2 with a perforation between the two of them on the paper backing.

I remember having to separate the tags the last time we flew which was in 07 because every guest received two tags where as now they received one. And you are right there isn't any perforation and that's what confused me:scratchin. It's good to know that you can cut them if needed. Thanks everyone for your help! :goodvibes

Don't cut them - you can ask for more if you need them. They need to be long so they'll move freely around the handle.

I agree with the others do not cut them, they are not ment to be cut, call and ask for more if needed.

There is no other official method of cutting the tags although nothing forbids you from inventing your own scheme.

If you have a color laser printer and a digital camera or a scanner, you can make more tags if it is too short notice to call and order more. Use transparent packaging tape to hold it onto a strip of cardboard. Although inkjet printers will also reproduce the tags, the ink is subject to smearing if it gets wet.

We will be fine with the four tags we have so no need to cut them anyhow. Thanks:thumbsup2

Well....that would explain the confusion. Still think its,a bad idea to cut them to make two. Just call DME and ask for more.

Actually, the first time we ran short my plan was to pick up the tagless bag at luggage claim, but the skycap at my home airport just cut one and reattached it, using half per bag... So, fast forward a few months when I was short again, I cut it and had no problem... I would do it again!

The tags I received today DO have instructions to separate on the back of the tags. The instructions read as...

LUGGAGE TAG INSTRUCTIONS

1. Separate at the center perforation to create two single luggage tags.

2. Peel off "Remove this portion only".

3. Wrap one luggage tag around the handle of each bag, with the color side out.

4. Please make sure the both ends of the luggage tag meet evenly and adhere to one another.

And actually?? Those are instructions from the old type...where they were sent out in sheets, not individual strips. There is no center perforation on the single tags. Sure, there's a crease, but that's where they are folded to fit inside the envelope.
Is it possible to cut the existing single tag in half and use it?? Sure it is. But, it may not stay put....the tag really needs two sticky ends to adhere completely.

If anyone can take a photo of the new tags, with these instructions, I would be thrilled to see it. There is a huge difference between dividing one single tag, and dividing a double sheet of two tags. And that's how they used to come....2 tags per sheet, with a perforation down the middle between them. They had to be split in order to use them.

I am not able to post a picture right now but each ticket is separate and there is a perforation across the middle of each ticket.

It's not a perforation, it's a crease. Each tag will have an area of the backing that is to be removed at each end, so that when you attach the tags, the sticky portions stick together.
