Silly questions about Disney Gift Cards in Canada

So I'm in BC and I'm thinking that putting our souvenier money on a GC is the way to go when we visit. To that end... where can I get them in Canada? Can I order them on the Disneystore site and load them there? Is there somewhere local (Shoppers?! LOL)? This way I can give one to each of the kids and DH already with spending money (and taxes included) and not have to worry about carrying cash around.

And if I put money on one for our meals, will the restaraunts in DL, DCA and DTD accept them? I'm more concerned about DL and DCA than DTD.

First of all you can't get them in Canada. Cards from the Canadian Disney Stores won't work in the parks. You can order them online:

https://www.disneygiftcard.com/cards/

They ship from California by FedEx and ours arrived in two days.

That's good to know. When I order them, do I order them with money on them, like a $25 gas card kind of thing?

I tried to order a card to the Toronto area and I get an error regarding my address and then noticed the following message on the order page next to the item, "This item cannot be shipped internationally or outside the contiguous United States.".

There used to be a way to ship them from the States as noted above. It doesn't work anymore. It stopped some time last year as far as I remember. Best thing to do IMO is bring the cash and buy the gift card at your resort gift shop.

Really? That's too bad. I has been a couple of years since I ordered some. Later on I'll try to see what link I followed to order. Maybe it was different.

Thanks! I'll try that. I was trying to get cards loaded with a specific amount though and that isn't one of the options provided.

The Disney store at the Eaton's Centre in Toronto does sell them and they load them for you. My friend gifted us one she picked up there before our last trip in September

Hmmm... I'm not in T.O. but I have a few friends who are. Maybe I can ask one of them to hook me up...

Now, this is interesting. Just to clarify, you used the gift cards from the Disney Store in Toronto at WDW, right? I've always been told at the Disney Stores in Edmonton that the gift cards bought in Canada would NOT work in the parks because they were in Canadian dollars. I'll check next time I'm there.

@dis_guy This was last September when our dollar was much much better. I sent a message off to my friend to ensure the card was in fact purchased in CAD. It may have been purchased in USD and I didn't know it, or if it was purchased in CAD we were at PAR and nobody cared. The check out desk took the card off my bill dollar for dollar. I will post my findings on here as soon as I know.

This is what I do! I have a Cibc US Visa. I pre load it before we leave, and when we get to WDW I use it to buy a Disney Gift Card.
They just changed the cash amount recently at WDW, now to buy or refill a GC, it's a minimum of $15 to do it. Used to be $5.00. Sometimes if I was in a shop & saw a really cute one, I'd get it and just put $5 on it because I may already have one loaded with my trip money.

I've been told at Metrotown Disney Store you can only use a gift card bought there at Disney Stores, not in the parks.
But if you live near the Border, you can go to a US Disney Store to buy them. And Target has them in $25 denominations.

I had this same frustration!

You used to be able to purchase them on the Disney site. There was a spot at the bottom of the tickets page. I was also told cards purchased in Canada at the Disney Store are only good for the Disney Store in Canada or online. Good thing I asked while in the middle of the Cast Member ringing them up!

I ended up getting my MIL to purchase them at Target while she was vacationing in the US. If this had not been an option I would have taken money preloaded on our CIBC US Dollar Visa to but there. I like giving the kids GC's or Disney Dollars as gifts for their own spending money for treats. This way they have to budget and they can buy what they want.

My family and I are going down in December and we bought our gift cards at a Disney Store in the states.
