Say I buy a resale and points aren't available to use until dec of next year. Could I still do a reservation in feb or March next year to have the vacation in December? I hope I'm not asking a confusing question

Yes, as long as you will have the points come time for your trip. You can book 11 months out for your home resort. 7 for non home.

I just booked our October trip, currently had 10 pts left for 2013, banked them. Our UY is October, so we will have all our points plus banked for our October 2014 trip.

If you have a December Use Year and the resale contract has no points available until December, 2015, those points could be borrowed for reservation dates from December 1, 2014 thru November 30, 2015.

If the resale contract will have points available for the 2014 Use Year (which begins 12/1/14), the points may be used for reservations from 12/1/14 - 11/30/15. Reservations may always be made 11 months ahead at your Home Resort and 7 months ahead for non-Home resorts without regard for your Use Year so a reservation for March, 2015 at your Home Resort could be made in April, 2014.
