Ok silly question. I tried to find the answer online on the DVC website but I was unsuccessful so I thought to come to the next best place.

How far in advance can you borrow points? Can I only borrow points from 2012 use year?

You can borrow from one year ahead. So if you are in your 2011 use year, you can borrow all you have available from your 2012 use year.

You can borrow points from the UY following the UY in which your trip falls. If you are booking a trip that falls in your 2010 UY then you can borrow 2011 UY points for that stay. If you are booking a trip that falls in your 2011 UY then you can borrow 2012 UY points for that stay. You can book 11 months from check-in when using home resort points and 7 months from check-in when using other points, regardless of your UY.

Rules on borrowing might be different if you are booking a cruise on points.

The posters above are correct. You can borrow all your point for 2012 now. We were also able to borrow points in the same, exact manner when some in our family went on a Disney cruise (because it took many more points than staying at the OKW resort!).

And, you can only borrow the number of points needed to complete your reservation.

So, if you are making a reservation and need only 20 points to finish it, that's all you can borrow for that trip. You can't just call and say, "I'd like to borrow some of next year's points".

You can borrow as many times as needed, though, so if you are booking several trips, you can certainly borrow points for all of them.

Just remember, that once borrowed, they can not be returned and will expire at the end of the UY they were borrowed in to, if you were to have to cancel a trip.

Not necessarily. For example, if you have an October use year and want to book a stay for August 2011, that stay would be in your 2010 use year and you could only borrow 2011. You could only borrow 2012 for a date of stay in your 2011 use year.
