Silly question - POPCORN BALLS

I want to make popcorn balls, and the recipe calls for 1/3c of popcorn kernels. I don't want to pop it myself, and have already bought some bags of already popped popcorn. So my question is - how much popped popcorn would 1/3c of kernels yield?

I just looked it up - it said 12 cups. I thought that was a lot, so I kept looking, and another site says the same amount. I can't believe you get so much! Good thing I got 3 bags!
