This is just a silly question, but I'm curious.

On the new show about the Dream, they talked about the closet doors in the staterooms and Kevin said they got rid of the sliding closet doors for doors that now open. Wouldn't sliding doors in a small space like that be a good thing? Why would they put in closet doors that open and block the space?

I stayed in a hotel room once that had sort of the same issue Kevin was talking about. If the closet doors were open, you couldn't get in the bathroom or someone else couldn't get in or out of the room because the closet doors blocked the area in front of those doors. It was really annoying, so that is why I had to ask.

I just double checked on this last cruise to make sure I wasnt crazy.

In a verandah stateroom, there are two closets across from the split bathrooms.

These used to have sliding closet doors. I know there was an issue with these sliding back and forth during rougher seas and scaring the crap out of people.

The solution.....put regular closet doors that probably wont scary anyone but will annoy and frustrate almost everyone.

They have also put the safe in one of these closets and about two feet off the floor.

In order to use the safe...I had to open both doors, which obliterates the light....so I had to get a flashlight or make several mistakes. Arrggghhh.

This change makes packing to go home an exercise in aggravation.

Also....all of the drawers have "whisper close" meaning you can not slam any of them. I'm sure this will make for better neighbors.

The closet doors have no such added function.

Wait till the situation arises where someone has a sleeping kid and the neighbors come back from a night in Evolution and decide to hang things up next door.

Slam, slam, slam, slam, slam, slam, slam......ok....your turn.:scared1:

You feel the waves that much? :scared1: Oh my, my first cruise will be interesting!

The sliding doors became very loose over time and slid quite easily.

DCL tried velcro on the door and the frame, but that too wore out.

That being said.....yes, there are times when the sea can be very rough.

On the two Dreams sailings I just came from (total 4 nights at sea), I only noticed that the ship was even moving one night.

Most of the time, the Dream was rock solid.

More like the closet doors feel the waves that much.
They did have strips of velcro on the door edges and if you were conscientious, you could secure them and they wouldn't slide back and forth.

This new feature of regular doors sounds like a complete pain- and hopefully something they fix sooner rather than later.

I would have gone with a simple "hook and eye" type of positive closure (or somethng more creative) for rougher seas, rather than a whole new kind of door that blocks everyone's way.

Great idea.

I'm sure they could find one that looks nautical as well.:thumbsup2

Okay, the reason makes sense, I was thinking they did it just because the doors looked nicer or something.

However....you spend millions and millions building a ship and could not come up with a better solution to the sliding doors? Like the simple hook and eye closure. Although, in all fairness, that would mean relying on the guests to remember to hook the eye, so probably they would still be getting the crap scared out of them at least once.

I read the title and had visions of a closet that would make my dreams come true. :goodvibes

During one of those rough nights on PCC 2.0 my closet doors constantly slid back and forth all night. I got very little sleep. I left a note for my cabin steward since I never saw him and the doors were fixed during the day.

I agree that the new closet doors sound like they will create more problems. I have no doubt that on our next cruise Carol will be retrieving something from the closet when I walk into the cabin and the cabin door will knock in to the closet door which will knock in to Carol which will result in me sleeping on the couch that night.

:rotfl:
I can totally picture this happening in our cabin as well! ;)

i hate it when the safe is way down low....
as it is, i usually have a hard time seeing the numbers even with my glasses on....if i also have to squat down (not in the cards) or lie on my belly (even less likely), it's not going to be easy....
i remember on the wonder, our safe was almost at eye level (for my level eyes that is).....such a pleasure!!!

Hi Kevin,

Are the orange life vests still placed on the top shelf of the closet.....out of reach for someone in a wheelchair?

I thought of that.

Half were on the top shelf and half were stored on the floor of the closet.

Once were got there....all were stored under the bed.:thumbsup2
