I will be coming to Disney last week in April, as you can see I am a Grandma and want to keep up with the grandbabies. What shoes would you recommend? :)

Thanks!

Well for me---I have arthritis in both ankles so if I wear most shoes by the end of the day I can't stand the pain. I have over the years discovered a couple of secrets that allow me to go pain free :)! The shoes I wear are CROCS. I was very against wearing crocs because to me they were so ugly. Well on one of my trips my sister told me just take them in case. So the first day there my dh and I were gone from morning to late night and by the time we got back to the room I could not stand the pain. So the next day I decided I didn't care what the shoes looked like I would try them. When we got back to the room the second night it dawned on me that feet did NOT hurt. I have worn them ever since. I don't even take other shoes with me at all anymore since I found a pair of black crocs i wear when we dress up a little too.
Also don't ever take new shoes.
Also about 2-3 months before the trip start walking around your neighborhood. This helps with keeping up.
I love taking my grandkids to disney too. Enjoy!

Add another vote for Crocs. My wife has knee problems, and I just dont like walking that much :p , and Crocs have so far been the most comfortable footwear we've found.

I'm another vote for Crocs. In other shoes, even my tenners, my feet and back usually start bothering me after being on them for an hour or so. I just bought a closed-toe pair of Nothinz (very similar shoe) in the fall, so I wore them on my marathon Christmas shopping/wrapping day. I was on my feet all day without any discomfort at all. I have since bought a pair of Beach crocs (Khaki color - don't need to look THAT ridiculous!) which will definitely be on my feet when we leave for WDW on the 30th!:thumbsup2

Recommedations for footwear vary widely - it always makes me smile when I read the vastly different opinions on this topic. Some people say that you MUST wear laced-up athletic shoes for support, while others say that flip flops or crocs are a must.

Basically - where what feels most comfortable to YOU! Personally, I cannot stand to have my feet 'bound' in a tight, laced-up shoe - so almost all of my shoes are open-backed. Last summer, I bought a pair of Fit Flops brand flip flop style shoes and wore them almost every day after that until it just got too cold. Used them for our trip to WDW the last week of December, and my feet felt great the entire time.

CROCS!

Yes, they are not cute shoes at all. I went to their website and clicked on "Deal of the Week" and found some for $3.99! So I went to the mall and tried them on (I think in JC Penny) to see what size I wear. I'm glad I did that because I had to order a size bigger so that they are super comfy. Ugly shoes, but I wear them to take the dog out and will wear them a lot in WDW!!

Also, don't forget to bring moleskin with you at all times in WDW (no matter what shoes you wear) so if you get a hot spot you can put a patch of it on and keep on truckin'

Have fun on your trip!!

yourMaire83 - we will be there in 16 days as well! See you at the parks! I'll be wearing my Khaki crocs!

Crocs are light and super comfy, and don't hold onto water (hello, Splash Mountain!) ..BUT they do not offer a lot of support so I have to leave them behind if I am doing a lot of walking. BEWARE, if you have flat feet (like me), high arches, are overweight (like me), or have plantar facitis. Not to say you can't wear them with those issues, just be careful not to over do it! Maybe wear them every other day? For our next trip, I am going to get a good pair of walking/running shoes from our local running store. They really examine your feet and match the right shoe to your foot. I was surprised to learn they are not any more expensive than the other shoe stores in my area. (They even use a camera to watch you walk on a treadmill to make sure your shoe fits properly!):thumbsup2

Just be sure to wear which ever shoes you decide on for several weeks before your trip. Also, it could not hurt to tuck some mole skin in your bag for you and the grandkids - just in case!

Edited to add - I am not a brand snob, buy any means, but in the case of Crocs I totally am. Not to say there is not another brand that is as soft, flexible and comfy as Crocs, just sayin' I haven't found it!

I used to love wearing crocs in the park.

UNTIL....I slipped and feel in MK. Just a heads up that once you wear them a while they have NO TRACTION and your odds of slipping greatly increase. You don't want to ruin a trip because of an injury. Just a warning ;)
