Hi!

Thank you for all the great info I got on the DIS! Now it's finally decided: I am going to Disney world for 14 nights in Jan 2009! :cool1: :cool1:

Please excuse my silly questions, but I am European and we have very different bed sizes here in each country. :confused3

We are three large adults and wondering if we could sleep all in one hotel room. The Disney website describes the beds at the Value and Moderate Resorts as "two double beds" and those at the WL/AKL as "two queen-size beds".
What does this actually mean? Do you have specific measurements?

Is a "double bed" in the Value Resorts the same size as a "double bed" in the Moderates? Would it be allowed / possible to push the two beds in the room together to have kind of 1 big bed for us?

TIA!!

Hi!

Thank you for the quick answer, very helpful!:thumbsup2

So this means that a double bed are the same size at the Values and Moderates. But 54" in width seems to be too small for two of us.

Does anybody know if you are allowed to move the beds together at the Values or Moderates? If this is not possible, than we would probably need either two rooms or go for Deluxe.

there are also king beds in both value and moderates - that say only 2 people in a king bed room.

think most of the moderates you can move them.

at Pop you can't.

think you can at the All stars (value)

 Most beds can no longer be pushed together as they are secured.

We've traveled a good deal throughout Europe and the double beds here are slightly larger than those in England, Italy and Portugal.

2 average size people can fit comfortably on a double bed.

Don't forget - Disney charges a surcharge for each extra adult in a room (3rd or 4th). Value and Mod rooms are a bit small by US standards, but definitely not by European standards!

Hope this helps! :)

p.s. Just wanted to add that the Family Suite suggestion is a great one!!

You may want to consider a family suite at All Star Music. The bedroom has a queen bed which two can usually manage on, and the living room has a variety of sleeper sofas. There is a double which is likely suitable for one person.

Good idea!

The Family Suites start at $184 a night duing value season.
Most of the Disney resorts (excluding DVC) charge extra for more than 2 adults in a room.
The Family Suites do not charge extra for extra adults.
1-6 adults can stay in the Family Suites for the same et price.
The Family Suites have discounts available also so if you keep your eyes open you just may snag a great deal.

Family Suite info:

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. of 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

Info thread--Pullouts in Family Suites at ASMU with photos of how the pullout is supported.

Here is the layout of the Family Suites:

They:

-Sleep up to 6 (plus one child under age 3 in a Pak-n-Play crib)
-Studio amenities and separate sleeping areas giving more privacy than a standard room.
-Queen bed, full-size pullout sofa, convertible ottoman & chair sleepers (4 separate sleepers)
-Private master bedroom and family room have 27” flat CRT TV and high speed Internet access.
-Kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator (4.3 cu. ft) and coffee pot
-Two-full bathrooms

AS someone else said, double bed in US is larger than European standards, however, it still may be tight for two adults. It can be done, and plenty of couples do share double beds. If you are large though, or you tend to move arund in your sleep, the queen sized beds are very helpful.

If a budget is important to you, and larger beds, then you MAY want to consider many of the offsite hotels in Orlando. You may well find somethign offsite that has larger beds for less money.

Hi!

Thanks to you all for these helpful answers! :goodvibes

Yes, we are a bit larger and turn around at night so the double beds would not be very comfortable for 14 nights.
The family suite would accommodate us fine, thanks for the info. But isn't it more expensive than two separate value rooms? We would not need the kitchenette in the family suite, so why opt for the suite instead of two rooms?

The off-site hotels would be another option, because they usually have 2 queen size beds. But we would prefer the Disney perks like EMH, so this reduces the choice to the Hilton in DTD (quite expensive).

Or we could book a standard room in the WL/AKL. (with the fee for the 3rd adult). This would be more expensive than two value rooms, but cheaper than two moderate ones. In this case we could enjoy the luxury of the lodge.

What do you think? Should we book two Value rooms, one room at the Hilton or one Deluxe room?

Thanks!

go with 2 value rooms - one for you with king bed, the other with double beds for your friend.

if you friend is paying half - won't go with the all star suites - if you got the queen bed and I was forced to sleep on one those chair sleepers - would definitely feel got cheated.

now if you both need king rooms - that is a problem.

The Family Suites cost about $20 more a night than 2 value rooms.

The Family Suites are located in the Calypso and Jazz buildings which are the nearest bulidings to the main pool, food court and bus stop.

The rooms in preferred buildings at the value resorts (Buildings nearest the main pool, food court and bus stop cost $10 more night. 2 preferred rooms = $20.

If you want a fridge the cost is $10 a night for each fridge.
Plus connecting rooms are not guaranteed at WDW.

If those perks are not something you need then 2 rooms should fill your needs nicely.

Have fun at WDW wherever you choose to stay!

Hi!

How to split the pay is not an issue. I am traveling with my Brother and my SIL. We do not need preferred location or a fridge.

Now it is either 2 value standard rooms (one for me, one for them), or 1 WL/AKL standard room (one queen bed for me, one queen bed for them).
Thank you again for giving me all the information I needed. Now it is simply a budget consideration for which option we go.

Be warned that I might annoy you with more questions regarding our vacation as soon as the flights and accommodation are booked. ::yes::
