Silly question about the quiet pools

We were at Poly last year and spent most of our time at the quiet pool. I will not go into detail about how awesome it was there, and how chaotic the main pool was, but it was very serene. Until....

Until the obnoxious family arrived. Just the four of them. The parents seemed like they wanted to relax (and not have to deal with their kids) and their two kids ran around the pool screaming and trying to kill the ducks that were swimming in the pool.
No, not chasing...trying to kill the ducks. These kids would chase them out of the pool and then into the bushes trying to grab them. What did they parents say? "Go get those ducks, Johnny! Get 'em!"

Finally when the ducks flew far away, they proceeded to splash and scream until we left.

I hate how people and their kids harm animals, the ducks get so much abuse from horrible kids. It makes me angry. How would they like to get chased down and beaten or kicked?!

I'm glad my husband didn't see that family. If so, there would have been some strong words.
We get so angry when we see kids doing this. There's been many times when my husband tells the kids to stop and asks how they would feel if someone did that to them. The parents usually act clueless about what's going on.

This is my husband too, although I don't want my husband to confront anyone because he's like a volcano, he stews until he explodes. We've never seen a kid actually physically connect with a duck, they chase and kick at them, but we haven't seen a kid actually hit one yet. But I know kids can kill animals, I used to work at a mini-golf place in my teens and there were kids that would kill ducks with their clubs. There was at least one duck that was murdered while I had worked there.

And for the family that encouraged their kids to kill the duck, that is beyond me, I would probably go complain immediately to a CM or security person. You don't kill for fun, you kill only for food, and if you do it should be humanely. At least that was how I was raised. I should say that next time I see a kid doing that "If you kill that duck, are you going to eat it? Because unless you plan on cooking it and eating it you better stop."

There are so many clueless parents and grandparents at Disney. We once saw a girl, maybe age 11, chasing a duck, I couldn't believe my eyes. Girls are usually more tender and caring with animals, we've never seen a girl exhibit that behavior, it was shocking and upsetting to see this while her grandparent didn't advise her in anyway that it was inappropriate to hurt an animal.

So, we took our beach ball back to the pool. Nobody was there when we arrived. We play volleyball in the pool. We keep it to ourselves and don't hit others with our ball. Some other guests came after we did. They glared at us almost the entire time. At one point they went and read the pool rules. Oh well. We had fun.

Well, I was curious because we use the pools closest to us when we can. Our family of 5 used the pool that was closest to our room. It was early afternoon and deserted. We had our beach ball and were just having fun. There were at least 2 groups of adults that came and basically turned around and left when they saw us there. I would say they were probably looking for a place to hang out but I don't know. Another group came later on and they came and started playing too. This happened over about a 2 hour time frame. I was just curious about what your experiences and expectations are.

This was a resort only trip that happened in 2010. :thumbsup2

When I am at the quiet pool, I expect to be able to use the pool. I really hate for other guests to take over the pool and toss their balls across the full width or length of the pool. Even if you are the first family to arrive, when others arrive, you move your game to one end of the pool as long as others can use the pool, too. When it starts getting crowded, your ball game ends or you take it out of the pool.

I am not sure what the official "pool hours" are. We usually stay at Kidani, and the exercise facility is accessible 24 hours a day, and we usually shower and take a swim or soak in the hot tub after we exercise. Usually this is when we return from a park, and sometimes this is after midnight. Sometimes, when we have gone to exercise early in the morning, like 6 am, the pool has been closed for maintenence at that time, so, not usuable.

In all the time we have gone, we only had one unpleasant experience with the self proclaimed "quiet pool police". We were staying at BCV, about 8 years ago (it was before AKV was open). The kids were young then--about 3, 6 and 7 or so. My husband and brother took the kids to the quiet pool while I went to do laundry. I put the laundry into the machine and was going to go outside and sit by the pool while the laundry was going. When I looked out by the pool, it was so quiet that I thought the guys had decided not to go the the pool. The I looked more carefully, and saw the guys WHISPERING with another adult, and the kids were standing in the pool. I asked them what was going on when I got there, and my husband explained that somebody (another guest) had YELLED at our kids for splashing and laughing in the pool, because they were wanting their kids to go to sleep. As I recall, it was before sunset, probably about 8 pm. We actually haven't stayed at BCV since. Our rooms didn't face the pool. I guess that is the risk of having a "pool view". Even pool maintenence can be noisy. Even earlier than this episode, we were "upgraded" to a "pool view" room at All Star sports, and it was noisy from early morning, when they sprayed down the deck, until early morning, with kids playing in the pool until 2 am. But, we had gone at spring break time, and there were groups of cheerleaders there. We learned not to accept another "pool view upgrade". It's a good thing it was free. But, it never occurred to me to vent my frustration on the other guests who were having a good time.

Official pool hours are posted at each pool. Once the pool is officially closed based on pool hours, you need to be quiet at the pool and not disturb the other guests. But before that time, you can laugh and play until the pool officially closes. Tell the complainers to go ahead and call Disney Security. If you are being obnoxious, you will be asked to leave. If you are just playing, nothing will happen to you.

When your room is near a pool and you are trying to sleep and the pool has officially closed, call the front desk (you'll actually get the call center) and complain. Security should come and tell them to leave or be quiet.

Even a little amount of noise in a pool becomes a lot of noise. Particularly in a situation where the pool is surrounded by buildings so the sound waves can bounce around. Which is common at Disney

But if anyone is looking for a quiet pool, hop to the Boardwalk and use the pool in the rose garden. It's seldom noisy.

:thumbsup2 Please everyone...keep this secret to yourselves.

I am probably one of the few DVC members who prefers the Dunes Pool over Stormalong Bay at BCV. Not only is it relaxing, for me, it evokes fond memories of Cape May, NJ holidays. Swimming there makes me feel as though I am staying at one of Cape May's historic gingerbread-style beach cottages.

Sorry, but we did move them. However, I didn't move them, they moved on their own so others could have the room in the pool. Even when we were alone the game didn't involve the entire pool.

My pet peeve is the parents that let their children use the hot tub as their private swimming pool with or without (usually without) supervision both the quiet pool and mail pool

The hot tub part bothers me the most.

And there's even a warning on the signs that hot tubs are not recommended for children. However, most of the ones we've been in at WDW have had a lower temperature than the 104 degrees most hot tubs are set at. So maybe that's why the parents aren't concerned.

Oh it is plenty hot for young children but I will say I am talking about mostly oct and March.

There were lots of kids in the hot tub when we were there in June at BLT. Many were running back and forth between the colder water in the pool and the Hot tub. It could be because the BLT pool is in the shade in the afternoon so the water is cooler than some of the pools.
