How long does Mission Space last? I believe Ive heard there is a pre show, and then do you go right into the "capsule" part? How long are you in that spinning part? Is there anything else?
I usually love thrill rides, but after hearing so much about people getting sick on MS Im a bit nervous about riding it. Just wondering how long I have to get through it. :D
Thanks for any info.

I'm not a real good judge of time, but I would say the actual part where you are seated in the actual ride is about 3-4 minutes. I was very nervous, and I handle most rides well, but don't like to spin, I did OKAY...not great, but OKAY. The take-off is the worst, at least for me, and I did feel quite disoriented. They say do not close your eyes or look left or right. If you really focus on the screen that helps a bit.

The good part is that I think you are doing some pretty heavy-duty spinning for take-off, but I think it tapers off a bit, so it is not a constant thing, or at least it doesn't feel like it is constant.

Once we "landed on Mars" I thought 'oh no, now we have to make it all the way back', but that is the end (thankfully).

The ride is really cool, and I'm really really glad I did it once...don't think I will ride it too often though.

It does go by quickly...I hope that helps!

I was extremely nervous the first time my DD12 dragged me on it. There was the worrying while standing in line, then while getting our row assignment, then while the briefing. When i heard the warning about closing your eyes (which I tend to do on rides where I'm nervous) I almost backed out. I did exactly as instructed and had no problem. Now I ride it all the time.

Just keep your eyes open and your head back. Oh, yeah, don't forget to yell when you blast off. It's great to share the experience with your loved ones (and complete strangers, too!).

3-4 minutes sounds about right. That is what I was thinking too. If I had not been told that this ride "works" by spinning, I wouldn't have known how they achieved the effect. I didn't even realize that there was spinning involved.

Try and get one of the inside positions (middle) I think the two outside spaces are sometimes effected by the spinning more because of peripheral vision. Oh yea and when you go for launch scream.

Yeah, 3-4 minutes sounds about right.

I too was very worried about this ride - I am not particularly prone to motion sickness, but I definitely do NOT like spinny rides (You are talking to someone who felt ill after riding Astro Orbiter here!).

As it was, I didn't have much of a problem with this one. I had little concept of the spinning at the time though afterwards I did feel like I was still moving when I tried to walk (you know, in that way you do like after you've been on a ship and then when you are on solid land you still feel the 'sway' hehehe). As such though, whilst not feeling actually sick, I didn't feel quite 'right' for maybe an hour or so afterwards.

I'm glad I did it - and in all honesty, at some stage in the future I'm sure I will do it again...I just won't be rushing back to do it :p

Thanks for the advice everyone! I am determined to do this, although Ill be sure we do it before the big lunch we have planned for that day. ;)

Play with ALL of the buttons and switches.

They do nothing but light up, make fellow riders think you're nuts, but are fun and keep your mind occupied.

The first time I rode MS, i was queasy and sat for a while, but my DB told me about the switches and I rode the second time with my DSIL and was fine.

If this makes you feel any better, my son of 5 (at the time) and daughter of 8 went on it numerous times!

We are a family of riders! I was so nervous that my children wouldn't like rides, because my husband and I LOVE THEM.

But my daughter and son both rode Twilight Zone at age 3, my daughter has ridden Rock-N-Roller Coaster and they both have enjoyed Space Mountain and Splash Mountain.

When they are old enough, we hope they will also want to get certified for scuba diving, it would be wonderful to have them enjoy that as well.

Maybe we can all go skydiving together via a large tandem drop!

I'm one crazy Mom! LOL

BTW, I LOVED THIS RIDE!

I was a nervous wreck about going on MS too. My dh and I did the rider switch pass, so he went on first, and gave me the "heads up" before I went on. The warnings they play over and over and over and over again are enough to make you nauseus anyway!! Seriously, once I got on the ride, focused on what I was doing, and stared directly at the screen like a pre-teen playing PS2, I was absolutely fine. I didn't even realize the ride was spinning. It ended quickly...I even asked the stranger next to me "it's over????"

I rode twice, so did my dh and we convinced my ds9 to try it. He loved it! (he didn't want to at first because he was afraid of throwing up...I told him just to stare at the screen like he does at home playing video games...he was fine)

You are so lucky! Like I said, DH and I love the thrill rides, but my oldest DS doesnt at all(hes gone on Test Track and hated it, he even gets nervous on Goofys Barnstormer), and my youngest is too short for anything. We are hoping he hits 40 inches by our July trip to at least get him on BTMRR which he keeps saying he wants to go on.
