After reading the boards my daughter made a great sign for the show. Guess what?? It got confiscated. NO SIGNS ALLOWED in Disneyland. So we asked how all those people get signs in for the show and they couldn't answer the question. They made us throw it away.

Anyone else have this problem?

We are at Disneyland right now. We are making another sign today and sneaking it in I guess. Or we'll just write one on the back of a placemat or something.

Other then that and the heat we are having a great time!!

You are the second poster I have heard that from. Did you have it out and were carrying it separately? We just had ours rolled up in our backpack. No questions asked.

I think it's strange that no signs are allowed at Disneyland. What on earth would be the issue with that?

Did you see other people with signs at the show? Maybe they changed the policy and don't want any signs at the Jedi show at all anymore? :confused3

We rolled up ours and put it in our backpack too. I have heard of another person who tried to carry a sign in and was told that they couldn't. It might be the policy at the gates if they see a visible sign, but people have always had them at the Jedi Training. :)

My guess is that they don't want people possibly marching with signs so they put a zero-tolerance policy for all signs? :confused3

We weren't trying to hide it, but just for easy of carrying we had it in a light sling backpack which was opened but perhaps it wasn't apparent that we had a sign in there.

This could also be the reason the Jedi Master 'likes to keep the signs to read them later' . Maybe they're not as much impressed with the Jedi signs as trying to find a way to confiscate them! :lmao:

Good point! Although my ds was upset when he couldn't find his sign after the show as he had worked so hard on it. :) But, it did get him chosen, so it was all okay in the end. :)

My kids had signs, but they handed them to me after they were chosen. I didn't see them take anyones signs.

Don't worry about a fancy sign ours was writen on the back on a coloring page we picked up elsewhere in the park.

I agree about the no fancy signs necessary. We have always just grabbed any 8.5 x 11 paper (even a back of a placemat once) and just used a sharpie to scrawl out our message. Usually, I keep the sign folder up in our stroller or backpack, so it's definetely not pretty when the time comes, but they've worked for us every time!

... my ds was upset when he couldn't find his sign after the show ...

:earsboy: I have heard stories that some of the Jedi CMs have some excellent signs adorning the walls of their bedrooms. :earsboy:

:darth: BOT - it's terrible to hear that the CMs at the entrance have turned to the dark side. :darth:

;) My sign was a huge piece of "oak tag" poster board. I folded it over twice and it fit nicely in a small backpack. ;)

:yoda: cascarlet - May the Force be with you! :yoda:

It was when we were going through security and my dh had the sign in his backpack. The cranky CM was all upset.."There are NO SIGNS ALLOWED IN THE PARK" and she was yelling it. I think it was the first time she ever found any "contraband" that she could confiscate. My dh had to tell her to calm down. They escorted us to the garbage can so we could throw it away.

It's not like the sign said "BUSH SUCKS" or something like that. I haven't been to the show yet so I'm not sure if anyone else has gotten signs in. We've got another one ready to go in my dh's pocket. My dd was excited about the prospect of being picked so hopefully she will. If not, oh well. She did get picked for the Indiana Jones show so she was happy about that.

I'll let you know how it goes.

When we went through security in March they confiscated our son's sign for Jedi training. They said "signs of any kind are not allowed in DL". However, the CM who told us was really nice about it. We also had not worked long or hard on our sign so there was no special attachment to it. Next time I will just put it at the bottom of the stroller where they can't see it.

Just remember to roll it up or fold it up and "sort of" hide it so you don't have any problem.

Sorry the CM was screaming about the sign. What a way to start your day. Yikes! :(

We folder our signs (3 of them) and put it under the stroller. The CM did not looked. We use our sign DD10 and DS 6 was picked right away. DD4 looked too small and tired but I jumped up and down and she was one of the last ones to be picked. It was just last Fridy on June 19

We were the only ones with signs

I felt weird having our sign at the show. DS was picked near the middle of the pack, I am not sure the sign had anything to do with it. I had no idea signs weren't allowed in DL though. I read here to make a sign and take it. Ours was in our backpack which they went through but just looked like a piece of paper. Hmm?

We had two signs last week, or course they were just on regular paper and folded in my backpack when we went into the park. I'm not sure why my boys got picked, if it was there signs or that they were wearing their jedi training shirts we bought last year. They were one of the first two picked and the person who picked them actually read their signs, you could see him pause to read it, and then said "the two boys with the jedi training shirts on, we encourage everyone to buy our merchandise and support anyone wearing it."

Sorry your sign was confiscated.

All three selected.

tenkaren, when you were there, how many kids would you guess were selected?

& How many were would you guess were NOT selected?

I wasn't aware of the "no sign" policy at DLR when I posted the tip thread last year.

To all: If this is an "official policy"....like no gum....would it be appropriate for me to mention this in the tip thread??

fwiw, I took a sharpie to a manilla folder (folded it out)....then folded it into a 3 X 4 & stuck in in my cargo pants. Padewan Alec & I don't do shopping malls or backpacks.....gotta be hands free for churros & corny dogs....& backpack free because we'd lose it before we'd finish Fantasyland.

We were chosen for Jedi training last Monday the 16th!

I made the sign as we were sitting at Jedi training waiting for the show to start, I just didn't have time to make the signs at home.
I brought a blue sharpie pen and some white 8 1/2 x 11 paper in a large ziploc bag so it wouldn't get wet on Splash or GRR.

I wrote:

Choose Us! Choose Us! All 4!

We had 4 boys in our group, 2 out of 4 were chosen. And they weren't even wearing their Star Wars shirts that day. My 6 yr old was distraught over that and almost pee'd his pants when they chose him.

The boys were holding up signs right in the front row but nobody said anything about not having a sign.

Participating in this show was one of the highlights for my boys - we wore shirts, got there early (we were first in fact!) and had signs. However, I still felt very badly for those that were not picked and although my boys wanted to do it again, I thought it would be nice to let others have a chance (if they did get picked again). I really think they should make a line - first come, first serve - so no child feels 'unworthy' or sad about not being picked.

I didn't know they had a 'no sign' policy, but I experienced something a few years ago that makes me understand why they might.

On DL's 50th birthday, we were standing up front for the ceremony. Gov. Schwarzenegger was there to make a speech. As he started speaking, all of a sudden this group off to the side of me produces this huge banner and starts screaming and chanting about unfair treatment of teachers (or something like that). Security quickly removed them, but it was still pretty disruptive. Now I know there's a difference between bringing in political signs with the intention of making a statement vs. signs for Jedi Training Academy, but it's probably easier for them to just say no to all signs and reduce the risk of having an 'incident'.

I was glad that all 3 were selected.I The 2 older ones were on one side and they did the jumping for themselves. I took DD4 to the other side but I guess you can still tell by our signs and tshirts.

I did not count how many kids were selected but all the circles on the floor were filled so I guess 30 kids were picked. I guess around 10 were not selected and mainly smaller kids.

We were there two weeks ago and both of my boys had signs. We just used white paper and crayons, folded them up and tossed in a bag. They were the only ones with signs and were the first two picked. They also had on Lego Star Wars shirts on.

I can see no signs, as in large, hard to carry ones (and who would want to do that any way) but not the little folded up pieces of paper like we used. Sorry they took yours.
