At our local Macy's they have job positions open for Signing Team Associate. By the description it is working with the team that is in charge of the sales signs, markdowns and moving of merchandise. Does any one work for Macy's with this position? What are the hours like? Daylight hours/times. Hours per week?

I am asking just so I know up front it would be a match for me. Looking for something early mornings, around my son's school schedule.

This is actually 3 different positions in my store. All are part time and EARLY mornings. All floor work MUST be done before store opening. So those early sale days mean even earlier work shifts. (Some as early as 4am.)

The signing team usually works 6am to 10am but hours will vary depending on when the sales go up or come down. (Usually up on Wed/Thurs and down on Sun/Mon) They average 12-20 hours a week.

The pricing team (markdowns) usually works 6am to 10am. The first and last Sunday of the month are usually the biggest markdowns but they work according to the markdown calendar. They average 12-20 hours a week.

The merchandising team usually works 6am to 10am. They work whenever we get a truck. Usually they have 3 days notice of when the truck is coming. This position is one of the worst as far as scheduling goes. If they cancel a truck, or it doesn't fill fast enough, your days will be switched on you. Many times you won't know if your working until 5pm the night BEFORE! Weekly averages would depend on the size of your store and how many trucks they get in a week.

If you are looking for something for after you put your son on the school bus, this isn't it. An 8-2 job just doesn't exist at Macy's, which is unfortunate. Some of our best employees have been SAHM's that just wanted a little "something". Sadly, Macy's doesn't work that way anymore. I've been with them for 19 years and the last 2 have been the worst. :guilty:

If you have any more questions, PM me.

Thank you for your response. The info. was helpful. I applied online and then I received a e-mail stating to schedule an interview during the next three days. But I never talk to a real live person. I wanted to speak with someone because they didn't list hours needed for that position. If the hours didn't match my lifestyle I wouldn't want to waste their time and mine within 5 minutes into the interview process. The 6AM-10AM would be fine if it was just for 2 days a week because my DH could get my DS to school. The only problem I thought of was there is no caretaker during that week of Christmas, when he starts his holiday vacation. :confused3 We have no relatives.

But I do not like the automated system scheduling an interview.

Not sure if they'll work with you on the Christmas week, but my guess would be 'no' since that is our busiest week of the year. All you can do is ask. Call the store and ask for the Human Resource Department. You should be able to talk to someone to schedule the interview.

Thanks! My very limited hours that I am able to work is why I wasn't too sure about a retail job. I don't think I will proceed with this job because another factor is that it is not the closest mall to our home. I am hoping some other opportunities will pop up soon. The reason why I am anxious:confused: about finding a small job quick is that my mother recently entered a nursing home and I might be inheriting a loan that she defaulted on.

When I first saw this thread's title, i thought it was referring to a person who works at Macy's and knows American Sign Language...

and half the time when I see the title I think "Is that about siNGing?!?"

Must get more sleep or drink more coffee...

agnes!

You might look into a school friend being able to take him during the couple morning during Christmas week. (Or maybe a couple of sleepovers. I can't imagine any holiday job will be able to lose their workers during the busiest week for them.
