Significant ‘Star Wars’ Presence Planned for Disney Theme Parks

"Star Wars" is the lightsaber with which Disney is going to slay Universal (as if they actually need to). By the time the new SW presence opens at WDW, Harry Potter will have done its due at USO, and then here comes Disney led by a wookie... perfectly timed by Disney.

Really, Harry Potter is big - but Star Wars is HPx3.

I doubt that, Universal is continuing to build new rides for the next 5+ years, and likely including a new park.

Star Wars land actually opening is probably a good 5-6 years away. Potter isn't done either, with Rowling writing new stories, and it's not like universal is just building Potter either. They have two major things under construction right now. It should keep them both at their game, although Disney will take its sweet time and drag it out. I'm being cautiously optimistic about Star Wars at Disney. Cautious because I know the pattern of "Value Engineering" (Aka cutting corners) over the last 15 years or so.

Actually they are likely very close in their potential as theme park attractions or themed areas go, however Star Wars is no where near HPx3...in fact, based on my opinion and observations, HP edges out SW...by just a little.

I can just see the announcement not
[Sarcasm]
Star Wars is invading Disney Parks all around the world.

At Tokyo Disney, we are building a life size Death Star that will serve as Hotel and ride.
At Disneyland CA, Star Wars Land along with Marvel land are the first 2 lands announced at the rumored 3rd theme park going in the strawberry Field.
In Paris, a new E ticket Roller Coaster themed after the Pod Races.
And Finally in DHS, a Dumbo clone themed to Tie Fighters and a permanent Meet and Greet with Jar Jar Binks.
[/Sarcasm]

Just look at Screamscape's current list of rumors for DHS http://www.screamscape.com/html/wdw_-_hollywood_studios.htm that are currently on hold or canceled. Until vertical construction begins it's all hopes and dreams.

ok...other than the reference to screamscape (aka "unemployed adult geeks with keyboards")...

i actually agree with the premise below all the sarcasm

I think disney will mine star wars heavily in paris and china, permit the tokyo people to build (and pay) for whatever they want, continue to throw their domestic muscle behind anaheim...

and WDW will be the expensive blackhole of money collections that gets the least amount of love

I know, I know...i can see the frowns over wifi...

but I have no faith to believe that WDW will receive what the fans want...something stunning/memorable that's included in the gate fee.

it will be set ups for "exclusive" events and merchandise outlets with the absolute minimum included of substance.

that's the business model for us dumb, spoiled, bossy, (STUPID to keep paying for it), East Coasters...

the model is working there isn't an MBA out there that could even think to suggest a change.

It's a prediction...i'm not suggesting for a minute that i have "insider" information from valid sources like bloggers and some junior person i had chicken with at "dine with an imagineer"...
certainly not from inside the breakroom at epcot transpiration...

but i'll just sit on the prediction and let it play. and feel pretty "good" about that.

let them build...i welcome it.

star wars was severely damaged by the cheap product they have put out for the last 15 years...there can be no question.

but as far as a global brand, history to draw from, and economic potential...star wars would absolutely destroy harry potter if the ship is righted and it goes back in the right direction.

people don't give star wars credit for what it really was: the founder of the pop/entertainment craze that lead to massive blanket coverage/exposure through media and product. at least in modern times.

comparing it to mickey mouse and the disney animation development through disneyland is a much better comparison as far as cultural impact...

harry potter is impressive but still in the minor leagues in comparison.

universal is doing a good job with HP in the parks in orlando (now expanding to Cali and elsewhere) and making disney look bad though...the popular opinion is beginning to realize.
so that's a good thing for fans of both franchises.
