Significant ‘Star Wars’ Presence Planned for Disney Theme Parks

Yeah, not surprising at all.

And in typical Disney fashion, this project will move as slow as molasses.

DHS is in major need of a revamping, so the sooner the break ground on whatever they are going to do there, the better.

I much prefer Universal's recent approach to announcing big new projects...get started on construction first (see Diagon Alley and whatever Kong-related thing they have started but not announced) and announce later. Then we are not waiting years and years for whatever the next big thing is.

Sounds great to me. I just hope it doesnt take 10 years to make it a reality. They really need to step up how long it takes them to build attractions. I know they will do amazing things, it just shouldn't take them forever to get it done.

During the call, Iger said when Disney now decides to build new attractions, “the likelihood of their success is greater” when they’re branded. “When we grow ‘Star Wars” presence, which we will do significantly, you will see better bets being made that will pay off for us than were made in the past,” adding that leveraging the collection of popular franchises and properties that the company owns for rides and experiences will deliver “better returns than we saw in the past.”

When asked if it was looking to broker new licensing deals with other franchise owners for attractions the way it did with James Cameron’s “Avatar” for a land inside Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, Iger dismissed the notion, citing properties owned by Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm,
“We don’t have to license from third parties,” he said. “We own them all.”

Ok, these comments I found very interesting. I believe that's the first time I've seen Iger admit that maybe the things they've been doing lately aren't all they're hyped to be.

I thought Disney was licensing Avatar.....if not, when did they buy it?

That's a good point. He is at the very least being quite dismissive of Avatar.

Get real, Seth. Show me where anyone (even the "haters") have said that they wouldn't be pleased with a SW presence in the FL parks.

Besides...Star Trek is probably going to that other place.;)

Seriously? If this is true then I will be thrilled. My wife and I both are huge DS9 and TNG fans.

We just started going to WDW last September and will be taking our third trip in a few weeks, but I think next time we'll be giving that "other place" a try.

I'm excited to see Star Wars in a park.

Though with what Disney has done with it so far, I can't say I trust it in Disney's hands.

Do I need to?

OH COME ON WHY STAR WARS

BOO I LOVE STAR TREK

DISNEY IS DUMB

Hows that? Trying to act like all the anti-Disney people who hang around here. Hopefully this also opens some peoples minds back up to Avatar in AK as I can only guess this will be for HS...

Do you think they are also slow rolling Avatar to have budget to slam Star Wars through in record time? I mean they do have a ton of space around HS.

AWESOME! :cool1:

You know me....... I LOVE change............ the RIGHT change.

BRING IT ON! :) Now I hope one of those attractions is a time machine so I can bring my boys when they were at the height of their Star Wars obsession.

First thing's first: before the ride, they need to put in the Mos Isley Cantina, complete with the band. Otherwise, I'm not going. :drinking:

Based on those rumored plans, the Cantina would either replace Mama Melrose or they would put it on the lake and make it the epicenter of the park.

I understand people want this right away but they will need to close most of DHS to complete the changes, so it definitely won't happen overnight. They also need to plan it with the movie releases to prevent spoilers so it will probably be another 4-5 years before you're able to ride or go into anything. I also think that the full scale Star Wars ships/creatures that Abrams is using in the movie will be used at the park once filming is complete. There is no way that the full size millennium falcon will just be used for the movie. I'm sure they have other plans for the props.

I would LOVE to see the Cantina! We were in the Studios on 6/9; we didn't want to deal with SWW crowds so we avoided the weekends. Still, it was fun to have Jawas run past us!

Well its about time SW will take in big $$$$$$. and has a demographic of 5 to 55. Better than Avatar Land will ever have.:)

BRING IT, DISNEY!!

P.S. Star Wars is popular enough to support a Half Marathon in WDW in addition to the DL one.

Thank you.

How about just letting things play out instead of throwing stuff against the wall to see if it will stick or not? There are a lot of SW fans here, including myself. No need to make this thread messy right off the bat.

We will have plenty of time to discuss this once it's made official. And for the record, I am pro-whatever park gives me a reason to want to visit. :thumbsup2

Forget about it, Hatter. Let the Wookie win. :chewy:

I can just see the announcement not
[Sarcasm]
Star Wars is invading Disney Parks all around the world.

At Tokyo Disney, we are building a life size Death Star that will serve as Hotel and ride.
At Disneyland CA, Star Wars Land along with Marvel land are the first 2 lands announced at the rumored 3rd theme park going in the strawberry Field.
In Paris, a new E ticket Roller Coaster themed after the Pod Races.
And Finally in DHS, a Dumbo clone themed to Tie Fighters and a permanent Meet and Greet with Jar Jar Binks.
[/Sarcasm]

Just look at Screamscape's current list of rumors for DHS http://www.screamscape.com/html/wdw_-_hollywood_studios.htm that are currently on hold or canceled. Until vertical construction begins it's all hopes and dreams.

Also I hope they get the rides launched before all Star Wars related technology is a reality on this planet.

I could see Disney doing two separate announcements for Star Wars in the parks. In April Celebration VII, celebrating the launch of the new movie, will be at the Anaheim Convention Center. That would be a great spot to announce anything happening at DLR. Then Disney has everyone frothing for details for what will be happening at the other parks. Which, they can announce at D23.

I'm hoping Disney goes big in both parks since it is actually slightly cheaper for us to go to LA than Orlando.
