Wondering what everyone's favorite signature dining location is. I keep looking at the Jiko manu and thinking that looks great. I'd like opinions. Also, we will be on the dining plan...is it worth it to use up 2 credits on a signature meal?

Thanks!

CRT is a family tradition and a "Must" for our family. We go there every time we go to WDW.

I really don't care about the cost....it's just now a family tradition....and I can't even tell you how much the meal is! (We do DDP)

Last trip: July 2008, '06, '04, '02...you get the picture...but even before that...we had dinner at the Castle...Every Time......

My take on it... is that the food is always good. The best at WDW....and a chance to cool off...sit down....relax. The kids want to "go in the castle"....I know I did my first visits at WDW! Now you get a Sword or Magic Wand....a picture with Cinderella......

The ambience is special...the service is great....I just can't imagine a trip to WDW without eating at CRT.
Hugs,
Mary
PS - these ressies are the first to go.....that must mean some ppl agree with me!

Generally speaking, people will tell you to avoid signature restaurants if you want to maximize your dollar on the dining plan. You have to select very carefully and deliberately to end up with a bill that's twice as much as a meal in a 1 credit restaurant.

The average-priced meals at Jiko, Flying Fish, California Grill, , Narcoossee's, Citricos, Artist's Point, Cinderella's Royal Table are all in the bottom 15 of all table service restaurants in terms of value.

Brown Derby is practically the worst value (for a table service restaurant) in all of WDW (only beating out the Plaza at MK). On average, you'll get about $19 worth of food per credit. Since you're paying $40 a day for the dining plan, that means that on two days, you have to recover $20 with your counter service and snack!

Hoop Dee Doo and Poly Luau aren't terrible choices on the Dining Plan, costing about $30 per credit, which isn't bad at all really. Mickey's Backyard BBQ is a much worse value, though.

Since we've done the dinner shows the last two trips (HDD was GREAT, Luau was, eh.), we're trying Narcoossee's for the first time this trip. For us, it should work out, because we also plan to eat at Marrakesh (which is the best value on the Dining Plan, with an average meal costing $39, covering the cost of the plan for the day in one meal!

HOWEVER. You have to decide how much you care. If a restaurant is
important to you....good atmosphere/menu/location, feel free to decide to go with the worse value if you're going to enjoy your meal anyway!

My family including two children and grandparents ate at Jiko the last time we were at WDW. We absolutely loved it!! Not only was the food phenomenal but the service and atmosphere was wonderful too!! We were on the dining plan and looked at what we saved over a week of eating! We certainly got our moneys worth! I would never have allowed my 12 year old to order filet mignon several times over a week if we were not on the plan! :goodvibes

We are going in July for our anniversary and are doing a Signature week. We are planning to try for ADRs at Narcossees, Flying Fish, Cali Grill, YSH, Citircos. We are doing the DxDDP. Other than Narcossees, all of the rest will be new to us. I still keep thinking of switching Jikos for one of my choices, but need to decide by next Sunday.

I am planning a number of sig restuarants for our honeymoon as we don't want to be tied to specific meal times every day so using 2 credits gives ADR free days. We are on free dining though so do not need to calculate the value so much.

I am also concerned that sit down meals everyday + CS is too much for us as we really don't eat large meals...

I hope my strategy pays off!

Thank you all for the opinions...

I probably should have added that we have done CRT in the past and LOVED the food. m That was in 2005 when it was only 1 TS credit. DD will be 12 this time, so the castle doesn't hold quite the sameappeal for her. We also did the Luau that year and loved that too.

I should also add that we will be there for free dining, so I'm not as worried about the "cost". I'm thinking more that we probably wouldn't try it if we did have to pay for it OOP.

This year we are definately doing the Hoop Dee Doo since I have heard so much about it but never tried it.

Somehow though, I keep cpming back to Jiko...

I still have a little while yet to decide though...can't make my 90+10 ressies till May 20.

Any mor opinions on the best Sig rest??

Jiko and Flying Fish are da bomb, the YM not that hot. We are trying Cali Grill in June.

The Wave is right up there with these signature dining places but I think it is just one credit instead of 2

We have done signature restaurants, always on the dining plan - we find it is too much food and time if we only use 1 credit TS the entire time...

Jiko - always good food and the service is wonderful, very relaxing.
California Grill - my personal favourite, DH still raves about it - the view is amazing and the staff are very professional :thumbsup2
CRT - not my favourite, great location of course, but food kind of OK :confused3
Poly Luau - good show, food was OK

We are trying Narcoosee's next trip - lobster :yay:

If you are doing the delixer dining plan, I definiyelt think at lease on signature restaurant is worth the extra redemption. Not so much with the basic dining.

Three table service meals are a lot for one day, especially if you are ariving late and checking out early.

We always do deluxe dining, for the extra value.

California Grille is the best restaurant at the resort, save Victoria and Alberts which is not on the plan. Definitely worth the two points.

Jiko and flying fish are fantastic, as well.

Have not eaten at Citrico's, Yachtsman, or Artist Pointe.

I don't see the value in the dinner shows, expecially at Polynesian, where the food is just horrible. I have boys, so we've never done CRT, but I have friends with girls who rave about it.

Narcoose, in my opinion, is not worth the extra redeption. The food is not any better than some of the one point restaurants, and the service is just okay. Most people end up booking Narcoose because they serve a whole lobster, for $59. Be advised, that if you are booking there just for the lobster, and have a later reservation, they usually run out by 8 pm.

Thank you for that tip about Narcoosees lobster running out later in the evening. We are planning dinner there at 5:30pm. I am only going there for the lobster!! My concern is that I have read a couple of posts lately that the lobster is not very good and someone even believed they got sick from it! Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

We've eaten at all of the signatures multiple times. We do not do dining plan, pay OOP, but that doesn't really matter.

For the ones on the dining plan, my top 3 are:

1. Flying Fish: best overall food
2. Jiko: appetizers and soups are stellar here, the entrees are not as good but still decent. We haven't enjoyed it as much since the chef change but it's still unique enough to stay in the top.
3. Citricos: sophisticated menu. Desserts have been a bit disappointing all appetizers and entrees have been very good each time.

My bottom 3 are:

1. Narcoosees. It's very casual, food is not as good as Flying Fish (yes, I'm one of the diners who has been disappointed with the lobster here) and this place has become very noisy now that it's so popular.
2. Artist Point. While the food here is above average, I just hate the decor. I do not feel like it's a special dinner because I feel like I'm sitting in a cabin.
3. Yachtsman Steakhouse. Not being a huge fan of beef, the menu is not to my liking and I've had a few steaks here that were very tough.

We like Hollywood Brown Derby but on the dining plan, it's a poor value.

We ate at Jiko and California Grill this past December. It was our first time at both locations. I thought Jiko was good, but I thought CG was GREAT! At Jiko, I had the filet and the macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese that everybody raves about? First, it was miniscule and, to be quite honest, I thought it was just . . . meh. It didn't have any real flavor. It was just like noodles with no real cheesy flavor coming through at all. The filet was good. Not great. But good. Now my wife had the swordfish there and she still raves about it. We both were absolutely wowed with the California Grill, though. The wait staff was extremely professional. The atmosphere is very elegant. The food is completely memorable. We loved CG so much that on our upcoming trip this summer, we're dining there three times. I also booked Jiko because I really want to give this place another shot.

Somebody else mentioned Artist Point. I think this restaurant, sadly, is on the decline. We have dined there numerous times in the past and it was my favorite until this past December. Every time we dined there, it seemed to be worse than the previous time. The first time ever was outstanding. The buffalo steaks progressively got worse as did just about every other menu item I ordered. That's sad, too, because I love the lodge and loved this restaurant. Must've been some changes in chefs - that's all I can guess. Sadly, this will the first trip in five years that we skip AP. I'll have to start reading some glowing reviews before I spend my entitlements there (BTW, does anybody else find it odd that the term for the DDP is entitlement?)

Brown Derby is another outstanding restaurant. This is, without a doubt, the best meal in all of the theme parks. We've eaten there a number of times and it has been consistently excellent! My wife, more a fan of fish, loves the salmon and the grouper here. I, more carnivorous in nature, have loved the steak. All the apps and deserts have been fantastic. I thought I might not like the grapefruit cake. . . it's delicious! I keep telling myself I'll try something else for dessert, but I go back to the cake because it's just THAT good!

Done CRT and, as you might guess, you're really paying to dine in the castle. It's the draw for this ADR. The food is good - OK - not spectacular. For my money, I may do this one every so often but just for the novelty of eating in the castle, but more likely, for the advantage of getting into the MK earlier on a day when the EMH is at some other park.

The first time I ate at Narcoosees was also the last time I ate at Narcoosees. Nuff said! I don't want to begin reverse peristalsis again! :scared1:

Citricos. . . meh.

It's been a long time since I've done the Hoop Dee Doo. We're going to try that and the Luau this summer. Similarly, it's been a long time since the luau for me. In fact, I was probably ten years old when I did either of those dining experiences. I know I enjoyed both when I was a kid. My gut feeling is that these are going to be much more about the show and the fun atmosphere than the food. I'm fine with that, too since I have that expectation going in.

I've only eaten once at the Flying Fish and I liked it. I had some sort of scallop entree and thought it was great. I was dining alone so I didn't take my time to enjoy a dessert, coffee or ambiance. In fact, I sat at the bar/counter. I'd like to dine there again, but I'm having a hard time finding any menu items that appeal to my son. :3dglasses Kids! Sheesh!

Hope that helps. If not then it's worth exactly what you paid for it!

We have only ever done 2 Signature restaurants. The first is Cali Grill which is by far my DH and I's favorite restaurant (absolutely love the fillet of beef....Mmmmm). That is a must do each time we are there. This past trip we decided to take our DD7 and DD5 with us and they too enjoyed the whole atmosphere. The other Sig. restaurant we have been to was Artist Pointe. We thought this was very good as well, and we will probably return sometime (my DH and I had made a personal goal to do a signature restaurant at least once each time we go to the World, minus CG because that is a given). I think the next time we go to WDW we will either try Flying Fish or Yatsman's Steakhouse...DH loves a good steak once in a while.

My dd13 and I absolutely loved Narcoosee's last summer. We had a late ressie to watch Wishes and she ordered the whole lobster and I got the steak and lobster. We both enjoyed our meals very much. The server was fantastic that night and she brought out DD's Cinderella slipper dessert without giving up the surprise and made it so fun for her it was a wonderful moment. DD loves creme brulee and had ordered that for her dessert and without even batting an eye, she brought her the slipper dessert and the creme brulee in a to go box to carry back to the room. This is on our return list for next summer.

At YS, I'm more of a steak lover than DD, so I thoroughly enjoyed the porterhouse even though I couldn't finish it all. DD didn't like her cheese appetizer however and she loves cheeses. I can't even remember which ones were on the menu, but one was just too strong for her. She liked her entree but didn't love it - I think it was the sea bass, but not positive. With that said, we are going back here again next year, because I love steak that much!

I am also adding on the Luau, Flying Fish, CRT and Citricos to our Signatures. I was going back and forth on the Citricos with Jiko and Cali Gril, but after reading the menus to DD, she said let's try Citrico's. It wasn't by overwhelming odds though because she said all of them sounded good. And I still haven't mind up my mind on which meal we will do at CRT. I keep wavering back to dinner for the menu, but the princesses are at bf and lunch as well as getting in early to MK. :confused3 But I have plenty of time to still plan. I won't even know the park schedules for a year!

I've been to all the signature restaurants, and California Grill is my favorite. The combination of food (sushi, flatbread, entrees, and desserts are fantastic), service (consistently good), and VIEW (breathtaking view of MK, Seven Seas Lagoon, and Bay Lake) results in the best overall restaurant experience.

While I don't have some of the experience of some on here with Signature Dining. I do think it is a nice treat and makes dinner seem extra special.

We have dined at Cali Grill twice and Narcosees once. The view and atmosphere at Cali is excellent. Now for the food and service it varies. Our first experience with service was great not so much the second and the same was with the food. Just seemed not as good as the first.

Narcosees is nice but I do not think it carries the same ambiance as Cali Grill. The food however I thought was marginally better for us since we ate at both places on the same trip. The apps and desert are amazing, try the almond crusted cheesecake. I would go back just for that. The Lobster was ok, I guess I have simpler taste and like King crab better. Something seemed off.

Now for the dinner shows. If you want cheap food with corny entertainment than Hoop Dee Doo is Right for You! I bought into the hype and I am not sure what the draw is? Don't buy into the free alcohol :scared1:I am not sure if that was moonshine or alcohol. LOL The fort is great though.

We are trying JIKO this trip and I am totally phsyced! I hope it does not disappoint as we are paying out of pocket.

MOONSHINE! LOLOL:lmao:

We decided to try HDR this Sept. luckily I'm a beer drinker. lol

I agree peyjax, I prefer King Crab Legs as well. I with Fultons Crab House was on DDP. As far as I know there are no restaurants that offer Crab Legs on the DDP so lobster is as close as I will get I guess. I just hope it is good.

We've been to - never on the dining plan.

California Grill - we had really good food here and a great experience. It doesn't always live up to expectations though - it may be overhyped. But this would be the top of my list to rebook at this point.

Flying Fish - several times. Love the decor, love the food. Last time it wasn't as good as the first time. However, the pineapple upside down martini is really good (if you like sweet pineapply girly drinks in a martini glass). We own DVC at the Boardwalk, so this is our "home" restaurant.

Narcoosees - great meal here a decade ago, not great meal here five years ago - we haven't been back since.

Artists Point - good food and I like the decor - but it is Arts and Crafts - which has its own sort of rough elegence. I'm a huge Arts and Crafts and Shaker furniture fan, so the decor is right up my alley. The food tends to run to the "game" side. I've been here twice in the past year. Probably second on my list to go back to.

Jiko - My husband loves Jiko, I didn't. We had poor service (which seems to be unusual) and I ordered something I didn't like - his steak was fantastic though.
