So my daughter and I were in the parks Wednesday and she bought a Haunted Mansion maid dress from the Port Royal shop. I just saw her receipt on the counter and noticed she only got a 10% discount. I just looked at my receipt for a spirit jersey I bought and it was the 20% discount I usually get buying stuff. So I looked at the DL website annual pass benefits and it say the discount is "up to 20% on select merchandise." There has not been a purchase I have made that did not receive a 20% discount so I'm just wondering if it was the dress that wasnt "select" LOL or do you think it was a mistake? We're hoping to go again next week so I'll make sure she takes her receipt and we'll ask but I'm just curious right now??

This discount this is really getting annoying though since I still can't get an AP discount doing mobile order....every single time I call about it and they "fix it" then the next time I try and it doesn't come up, so usually someone else does the order. :sad2: I always forget to get over to Guest Services when we're there too....I think I'll make Guest Services a first stop priority next time we go.

It was a mistake. The only tier for the discount amount on merch is linked to which AP you have, not the merchandise. Merchandise either qualifies for the discount or it doesn’t. If it does qualify, you should always get the same amount. that your pass qualifies you for.

For me the key words here are "up to" and "select merch" with that wording they can pretty much put any discount they like regardless of AP level. I doesn't surprise me that the dress would have a smaller discount as the price is much higher.

Having purchased WAY too many of the dresses, we always get 20%. Not sure how they could have made the mistake as they don't even push the button, they have to scan the card. I would definitely ask.

I've had this mistake before with dining, but it was awhile ago. Specifically at Pacific Wharf Cafe. They rang me up with a 10% instead of a 15% discount. I did immediately catch it and made it be fixed right then. I was given several reasons by the same person (appeared to be a lead):

First it was that my AP card (Sig+) had not scanned up as valid. I was told "we did you a favor giving you anything". Except no one told me there was an issue until I asked why I had the wrong discount.

Then when I questioned why no one spoke up because that's deeply concerning something is wrong with my AP, I was then told the issue wasn't my AP, that the system had auto applied the 10% and they had to manually do the 15%. Why? Now the reason stated was that the 15% was a new discount recently up from 10%. It wasn't and I said as much to the CM as I had successfully gotten my 15% discount on a previous trip to that same food place. I don't think she was happy I held up the line and made them fix it for me and for my mom (we did separate orders) right there. I was polite, but I was also firm that this needed to be fixed. I was definitely more annoyed I got two different stories: one that was concerning I wasn't being told there was an issue from the get go and one with a blatant lie.

I don't always remember to check my receipts, but I'm trying to be better about it.

I would definitely check on this. The system does screw up sometimes and I don't see any reason it wouldn't be 20%.

They do have legalese in their language like all companies do to protect themselves, but they’re also very upfront about what does & doesn’t qualify for the merch discount. For example, I just special ordered a framed print from Wonderground gallery for my son’s birthday & had it shipped to me. The artwork itself was not eligible for a discount, but they were sure to apply it on both the mat & frame that did qualify. As for how pricey the item is, I’ve never heard of them adjusting for that either. On our last trip I bought a Dooney & Bourke backpack. The regular price on it was $318.00, but they gave me the full 20%.

I’m not saying they’re perfect & always give the right discount. But, I do believe that when there is an error, it’s an honest mistake or lack of knowledge on the part of the individual CM. I don’t think it’s a case of Disney altering the discount terms at will.

The jersey was actually higher priced than the dress. Its not one of the fancy dresses from the dress shop places. LOL Its more of casual dress...don't know how to describe it. LOL

Normally when they ring up the merch item the register will say 20% sig discount. So that's usually how I know.

The receipt should show which AP was used. For example, all my receipts show that I had the FlexPass discount. If it doesn't specifically say which pass discount was used, perhaps they just hit a button instead of scanning the pass.
