Signature dining dress code

We have three signature dining reservations on our upcoming trip. California Grill Jiko and Narcoossee's. I think we can make it back to the hotel from the park and back to California Grill but not sure about the other two. Would you take collared shirts to change into? Or will park day T-shirts be OK?

I always wear slacks and a button up shirt to signature meals. That being said, I see people in shorts and t-shirts every time I go to Cali Grill.

They encourage you to wear nicer clothes. Quoting directly from any of the resort Signature Dining pages on disneyworld.com

Dress Code
At this Signature Dining experience, Guests are asked to adhere to the dress code.
Men may wear khakis, slacks, jeans or dress shorts and collared shirts. Sport coats are optional.

Women may wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses, jeans or dress shorts.

Not permitted in the dining room are tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut-offs, torn clothing and shirts with offensive language or graphics.

While I've seen plenty of people wearing shorts (I have when it's been 90+ out) and lots of people wearing t-shirts, use common sense. Torn shorts, daisy dukes, etc are obviously out. Nice khaki shorts with a clean simple t-shirt will slide. But if you are going to be bringing a bad, packing a polo shirt to put on after the park can't hurt. While you are enjoying your vacation you may be eating next to locals who are on their date night, wedding rehearsal dinner etc, so dressing with that crowd in mind is only courteous. But unless it obscene, or wildly inappropriate they will most likely let it slide.

You will likely engender a lot of discussion since this is a touchy subject with one camp generally for dress codes and the latter against. I'm completely in the former--dress codes exist for a reason even though I will admit Disney rarely enforces them anymore (except at V&A's). I vote for either carrying a collared shirt or simply leaving a little early from whichever park you're in to make the change back at your hotel--there's simply something to be said for dressing up, even just a little, for Signature restaurants. I'm certain many others will disagree, and that's fine. I can only point to what the dress codes say for Signature restaurants and leave it at that. ;)

For California Grill, our adr is 9:30 and the MK closes at 7, so that one shouldn't be a problem. For the other 2 I am considering bringing a bag and getting a locker and changing at AK and GF.

I was just at Narcoossees. They will let you in with Tshirts for sure. I saw so many people very, very casually dressed. They definitely do not enforce any type of dress code. I even saw one table whose kids had their flip flops kicked off under the table and I had to look at their dirty feet the whole time. I think it's a shame. If they are going to let people be so casual, their prices should reflect a more casual dining experience.

So all that being said, I would keep it classy and go with the collared shirt as it is supposed to be Signature Dining.

My husband and I both wore polo's and nice pants to Narcoossees. I didn't feel well during the dinner and kept my bright red jacket on during the entire dinner. We were comfortable in what we wore but we also would have been comfortable in jeans and a Disney t-shirt. I couldn't tell you what those around me were wearing because I didn't care. I was enjoying my night with my husband. Honestly, Idc if people follow the dress code or not and if someone can ruin your dinner because they are dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, well I just find that silly.

They have already responded with the official rules, so I will tell you my experience from years of the deluxe dining plan and 2 credit dinners. It's all over the place. The resort signatures have a more "followed" dress code. For example, Hollywood Brown Derby in the park is rarely followed. Even I am guilty of this on multiple visits. The later in the evening, the fancier the restaurant, the more likely diners will dress for dinner. I've never had a problem or seen it enforced, but then we tend to go back and shower and change before dinner. Since you are asking the question, it sounds like you might be self conscious. Pack a shirt and have him change - no big deal and no stress. You will be fine in a sundress (depending on weather) all day. Brush the hair and apply some lipstick and you are good to go!

One more point - of all the signatures, in my very humble opinion, they are probably 3 of the top 5 that I always plan to dress up a bit for. So I still think an extra shirt will do it. He would even be fine in nice khaki shorts at Narcoossee and Jiko provided the shirt was a bit dressy.

Quick question: We are going to Artist Point on Halloween evening before trick or treating at Ft Wilderness. My husband and I (and the baby I suppose) will be in nicer clothes, but my DD may want to wear her Halloween costume which is a Rapunzel dress, and her hair will be fixed with a braid and flowers as part of her costume. Do you think they will mind? She will look clean and neat, she will just happen to be in a Rapunzel dress :)

Totally fine! No worries at all. Say Hi to the WL for us and tell them I will be back in Dec. My favorite. Have a great time. Trick or treating at Ft Wilderness sounds fun. Make sure to add the carriage ride during Christmas sometime. The campers do an amazing job with lights. Its really fun.

Absolutely agree, both in that your DD in a Rapunzel dress will be fine and the implication that AP is a wonderful restaurant. It's had some ups and downs the past few years, but over the course of our last three visits, the quality has returned. The new chef appears to have righted the listing ship, so to speak. Enjoy!

As far as the Dress "code" is at WDW--it isn't really a code at all. It's more of a "suggested" way of dressing. You are "asked" (not required) to adhere to it.

Meaning that t-shirt shorts and flip flops are fine, if that is what you want to wear.

Just pay attention to the "not permitted" short list--almost anything else goes.

Not really self conscious but we've never eaten at any of the signature restaurants. We had an adr at California Grill on our first trip but had to cancel last minute. This trip it will be just me and my 2 daughters and I don't want to show up and be turned away. Plus since it's a daddy/daughter trip I'm pretty sure if I show up in a sundress and lipstick I will get turned away! :rotfl2::rotfl:

Trust me-unless you are wearing something on the not permitted list you won't be turned away.

I wore jeans and a polo @ Artist Point. No issues. I don't think they're that strict if you're willing to pay for an expensive meal.

Exactly!!

Ah, but "silly" is very subjective which is why the best advice is attempt to adhere to the suggested dress codes. They do exist for a reason. :)

Agreed it is subjective but just as I don't worry about what others wear, I also don't worry about what others think of what I wear. As long as I'm not wearing something that the restaurant prohibits then I don't worry if I'm dressed up enough or not. The next time I go to Narcoossees I'll probably be in jeans and a disney t-shirt. This is allowed by the dress code but I think some on these boards would say I'm not dressed appropriately because I should be more dressy than that.
