Signature Dining and Child DP ?

Does anyone know if SD lunches are 2 points too or are they 1?!

Except for Le Cellier, it doesn't matter the meal. It will always be 2 credits. That said, I think only Hollywood Brown Derby is the only signature open for lunch (except Le Cellier).

Le Cellier is an odd location. They are NOT signature for lunch, but is for dinner.

All signature restaurants are 2 dining plan credits, adult or child, lunch or dinner. The only exception is Le Cellier which is 2 credits for dinner only. The only available signature lunches are at CRT and Hollywood Brown Derby.

On the regular dining plan the allotments are the same whether you are paying one dining credit or two in most cases - entree, dessert and beverage for adults, no appetizer. Kids get appetizers but must select from the children's menu.

If you are on the Premium or Platinum Package Plans, all restaurants, including signatures, are one-credit restaurants.

Is it a problem to pay for the childrens' meals out of pocket and then use the appropriate adult credits for the adult meals?

The reason I ask is that I find it difficult (from a cost/value standpoint) to use up two child credits for $9 chicken nuggets. I realize that the childrens meal also includes app, dessert, and drink, but I'm thinking that my kids can share my app with me and have my dessert. Is this acceptable?

Thanks for any comments and suggestions!

You can... but in honesty the signatures do a great job of "real" appetizers and desserts for meals at signatures. My daughter LOVES the desserts at the signatures. They are much more fun then the generic ice cream you get at a regular place. They have paint your own puzzles, rice krispy sushi, make your own smores, and fondue... lots of fun stuff. The appetizers are also better foods than what you would get at a normal sit down restaurant. Also, at a signature if you bought the other stuff the kids meal easily is $20. Dessert is my daughters favorite part of going to a signature... I'm pretty sure she'd rebel if I made her have an adult dessert! ;)

Overall what is your plan? If you are planning on paying oop for a kids meal here, where are you using the credits later? If you are planning 2 meals for you and dh oop later (to use her credits)... you are better off paying oop for the adult meals at the signature as well.

As a whole it makes more sense to get kids meals on the ddp @ signatures and make little sense to use credits for adults. (If you are looking at cost per credit.) Obviously it's whatever is going to work for your family.

I have ADRs for Narcoosee's dinner and Cape May Cafe breakfast next month and am considering paying OOP for my breakfast and my child's dinner. Based on what I think my DD 4 will want to eat at Narcoosee's, right now it doesn't seem to be a good value to use 2 credits. I am considering either a TS breakfast (I'll pay OOP) or an early dinner at San Angel Inn where she'll eat and I'll have an appetizer and a yummy margarita (OOP) to use up her extra credit. I'm going during F&W so will have no problem filling up around EPCOT!

I didn't think my plan all the way thru! As hannahdrewmom mentioned, then my credits will not be even between the remaining adult and child credits (each kid will have 2 more credits than the adults).

But...

thanks to your post below, that will now give us options as to how to "even" things back up if we choose to go this route.

One option I was thinking about was doing character breakfasts to use up the "extra" kids credits and then for myself just getting a cup of coffee (I'm not a big breakfast eater). Would this be an option? Can I just pay for a cup of coffee (or even nothing) while my kids have the breakfast (say for example at Crystal Palace or Chef Mickeys). If I am not eating, do I still need to pay?

It sounds like the desserts are awesome at the sig restaurants, but again, I just think 2 credits is a lot for that type of meal. Since the kids are already getting a zillion desserts/snacks each day, I think they would not miss having one after dinner.

I believe that everyone must pay for the buffet to attend a character meal. Otherwise, that would be a great plan!

Every person entering the restaurant must pay for a buffet. You can follow that strategy at a regular TS restaurant, but not a buffet.

This plan works because she is already planning on eating there. It makes sense if you are trying to get an extra meal out of it.

However the plan to "save" credits doesn't work if you aren't planning on eating someplace. You have to pay for everyone for a character meal. So in an effort to save (2ts childs) you are in essence paying Disney an extra $25 per adult. Plus paying oop for child's meals at the sig. And that is just for 1 meal.

Basically you figure (saving 2 credits):
Sig oop =$9 x2 kids = $18
Character meal= $50 for 2 adults
Other meal average = $40 for 2 adults

So in an effort to "save" the credits you are costing yourself $100. Disney is sneaky like that... it all adds up quickly! I've burned myself too many times trying to out smart them! HA! Of course ymmv if you are picking certain restaurants... but overall the effort to save 2 kids meals (especially based on what you are paying per credit for kids meals) normally isn't going to be worth it.

I agree...sounds like it might not be worth it.

But I think what we will do is just see how things go...

Thanks for all of the comments!

Evan

The SD meals for kids that are 2 credits are soooo much better than the kids 1 credit meals. The desserts are just amazing and worth the extra credit. It's not the same mac and cheese and ice cream with mickey sprinkles you get elsewhere. They usually have steak, a nice veggie, mashed potatoes type stuff. The apps are also more than just carrot sticks too. I think all of you will enjoy the special SD experience if you just go ahead and use your credits.
